I must say this is one software I'd give my left ball for (at my age I do not need both) too bad I cannot sell a nut for the price they are asking. I guess I'll stick with version 6.5 until I win the lottery.

RE: Big scene - Sketchup crashing all the time
Can you screen capture the SU model? me thinks the vegetation may be the issue.

RE: Creating a plaid on a chair - cloth simulator?
Most anticipated plugin of the year so far, cannot wait.

RE: I have hit a serious slump
Model something completely different, challenge yourself. I love all things Scify, so when I get time to play I usually model silly scify vehicles based on images online.

RE: I'd Live Here
Looking good, a little flat on my screen, did a quick contrast adjustment.

RE: A New 3D Mouse on the block! LEXIP
Looks like a great tool, but I cannot imagine myself ever using it as it seems to require a lot of wrist movement, I'd hate doing that for 10 hours.

RE: Sketchup blender transition
Blender is powerful it can pretty much do everything.
It requires a commitment to master, I have tried and failed twice, I blame my lack of need and laziness for not succeeding. I am sorry I gave up in the past as it would have been an incredible tool to have.
The problem in my case is I need to keep using a tool to remember it, I started learning Blender until a large project came and it was 3 months until I had the chance to go back and continue and realized I'd forgotten pretty much everything I had previously learned.
Rich O'Brien has aced it, maybe he will jump in with some wise words.

RE: Basecamp 2018
This will be the first time I will miss a basecamp.
Too expensive for me, and frankly the last one at Steamboat Springs just lacked something, it has become too big, and it's now all about selling crap, vendors everywhere. -
RE: Movin' on...
Oh my! what an adventure, good luck mate.
You are doing what I dream I had the courage to do, just recently watched a documentary of a retired couple doing something similar in Alaska.
All the best and please keep us posted.

Everything works great with my Ryzen 1800x, Lumion loves the 1080ti (only utilizes one) where Thea uses all 16 threads and 2x 1080ti's (amazing speed) SU is smooth.
I will suggest a good sized SSD, I went for a 1TB Samsung SSD and a 4TB WD mechanical 2nd drive, everything starts faster from Windows to SU, Photoshop, Lumion.

Sounds like an amazing build, with performance to match. What was the final $$ damage for it?
At the time it cost $3600 but that same setup now is around $2800.

Cool thanks, I was looking at the Ryzen 1700x, whilst I haven’t settled on the i7 yet the “does it work with ryzen” question was keeping my awake at night. If I can get a 100% confirmation that Lumion works with (or even better with) ryzens I’d go with it in a heartbeat.

Paul, I looked at your choices, not a bad machine for what you need it for, the only thing that concerns me is the PSU, running Lumion will draw a lot of power to your GPU and to be safe I'd go for 800w plus. (just a thought as I recently built a rig with 2x 1080 ti's and a Ryzen 1800x and went for 1200w platinum PSU)

Try Kubity.
It will respect most of the meta in the model and if you have those glasses they gave out at BC you can give the client the full VRish experience too.
Ooh!! that looks good, SUC members get any deals?

Okay, all fixed, it is indeed a Thea bug and I do have a fix thanks to Tomasz (the Thea plugin author)

I downloaded the trial version and it does no give me the option to install it for SketchUp 2018. Was going to give it a try for you...........
Is there something I need to do differently to get a trial version to work with 2018?
Maybe they do not have a version compatible with SU 2018 yet, or an installer, try SU 2017

Augmented reality help please.
I know absolutely nothing about Augmented reality besides many years ago seeing something at base camp that I have totally forgotten.
I desperately need to learn how to create a model and have a client see it in an augmented way and even figure out how to geolocate it so that the client can see the model in its final location.
Anyone got advice or information that I can use?
