Hmmm. I can't really see the actual shelf very well.

If you're trying to showcase the TV shelf itself, I would recommend lighting the room and putting a less distracting picture on the television. The glowing of the screen just takes all the attention and doesn't do the model justice.

That's my opinion anyways. Hope you don't mind. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I don't think I've ever been as excited over a WIP. I am so excited for this. Especially the renders. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Best of luck, and happy modelling. ๐Ÿ˜„

All we know is it has been in testing (I assume Alpha) since at least March. That's only 3 months. I'd could very well be another 3-6 months.

I am excited for this too and can't wait. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here's what I'm referring to. There is no floor under the pillars on the top level.

      @unknownuser said:

It's an untextured floor. If there was no floor how would there be shadows?

Are you going to texture it? I am just curious as to why you left it empty there. I am also curious as to how you make the geometry not render but interact with other geometry. Or is this not what's happening? ๐Ÿ˜•

Hello Park and welcome to the SketchUcation forums. ๐Ÿ˜„

Regarding navigation, if you have a 3-button mouse it is really easy. Scroll the middle mouse button to zoom in and out, press the middle mouse button and move the mouse to rotate around your model and hit the middle mouse button while holding the Shift key to pan. You'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. Took me awhile before I discovered this. It made navigation so much easier.

Also, if you go to View > Toolbars > Views and select top view you will be able to stay in a 2D view looking down from above. You can pan and zoom while in this view but make sure that if you rotate you go back to top view mode when you start modelling again. This prevents you from thinking you are modelling in 2D while you aren't and messing things up.

About your plant model generator, I don't think anything like that exists in SketchUp. However, search the 3D Warehouse as Bep said to look for 2D and 3D trees.

You could take a look at the SketchUp Ivy plug-in and try using that to make trees or bushes.

You could also check out Solo's Place for some 3D plant models. Also, try a search on these forums in the Component forum for free plants. I am working on a simple 2D plant component pack myself. I can give it to you when I am finished if you are interested.

Finally, if you cannot find what you need you could attempt making it yourself. Feel free to come to these forums if you have any questions.

Hope you find what you're looking for and that SketchUp will work for you. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Question. What is the purpose of the empty space below the pillars instead of a floor. ๐Ÿ˜•

    • RE: [Plugin] Sketchup Ivy

I haven't read through the whole thread so please forgive me if this has been asked and/or solved before.

I play around with my ivy until I am satisfied but when I Shift+Click to create the actual geometry, nothing happens. ๐Ÿ˜• Am I doing something wrong? I am running SketchUp 7 on Windows XP and have SketchUp Ivy version 0.6.3. I know you said this isn't tested on SketchUp 7. Is this my problem?

So I have to download an extractor?

Yes, Windows doesn't extract .rar and many other compression types. Anyway either of those i posted are great alternatives to have.

Yep. Thanks. I got PeaZip seems to work well and looks like a useful tool.

Try Ivy plugin, you can use mouse cursur to direct branches.

๐Ÿ‘ Here's the link to Pierreden's SketchUp Ivy plugin version 0.6.

How do you use it.. i cant se the branches only red lines, and they aren't there where i want them..
I have with draw, drawn some lines to show to the plugin which way i want the branches to go.. but make something different..

Try reading some of the instructions. E.g. Click generates ivy. Alt+Click generates ivy toward the mouse. Ctrl+Click generates leaves. Shift+Click finishes the ivy.

Play around with the parameters and see what you can come up with.

P.S. Unless your file exceeds the upload limit for this forum, it's best to attach your .skp file directly to your post. Some people can't access certain download sites and it just makes it a whole lot easier for everyone. ๐Ÿ˜‰

.rar is a different compression format. Use 7zip or PeaZip to uncompress and then place in plugins folder

So I have to download an extractor? Then I would extract it the same as I would a .zip? Alright. Thanks.

      O.K. This is embarrassing. ๐Ÿ˜’

How do I open the .rar file? ๐Ÿ˜• Do I just drop it in my plugins folder or do I need to do anything else such as extracting it somehow. I downloaded it right to my plugins folder and it doesn't seem to be showing up.

I want to make super mario. but all I can at the moment is cubist shapes ...
      Thanks

Do you want to make him in 2D or 3D? Are you familiar with plugins?

If you want to model the character in 3D then Artisan would probably be the way to go. It does cost a little bit of money but from what I've heard, it is more than well worth the money. Pete (Solo) would be your guy for this if you take it on and have any questions. Good luck. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'll also give you some links to just a few really great plugins (most of them free) that have at least something to do with organic shapes in general. Take a look at them and use as you have need.

      Whaat's Artisan
      Fredo6's FredoScale
      CPhillips' SketchyFFD
      Chris Fulmer's Shape Bender
      TIG's ExtrudeTools
      Fredo6's RoundCorner
      Fredo6's Tools on Surface
      Fredo6's Joint Push Pull

Of course, these are just a few and there are many others you will most likely come across while using and discovering SketchUp. Best of luck! ๐Ÿ˜„
