By your definition only sketchup output should be posted in the gallery.

That leaves out an awful lot of Renders.

Uh, what definition? Don't put words in my mouth. πŸ˜’

Yes it's a sketchup forum, but it is a Forum! a place for like minded people to discuss things of similar interest.
And besides that, Michalis does use sketchup, and I for one find it interesting and informative the way he is able to combine various techniques and bring them together in sketchup.

You have a point. I didn't see much use of SketchUp but if he says he uses it I am not one to judge. I am simply one to stand in awe of such an amazing work. πŸ˜„

Again, I think I took this too far and am sorry for any misunderstanding. I apologize to Michalis, Box, and anyone else I may have offended. 😳

It is far from wrong to post here!!!

It's lovely work and all related to 3D modelling.

It is lovely work and I don't mean to take anything away from Michalis' art. However, this is a SketchUp forum.

Please don't understand me wrong. Of course, I know that SketchUp cannot do everything and that for many projects, other programs are a whole lot more useful. I also realize that using a variety of programs, even on one project, can make everything go a whole lot more smooth and quick. However, this being a SketchUp forum, I believe most things posted in here should have at least part of the workflow done in SketchUp.

What about a subsection of the Gallery dedicated to 'Other Modelling Software'? That would definitely be a cool forum. πŸ˜„

Absolutely! But it just seems to me that you import into SketchUp just so you can post your works in this forum. You don't seem to do any actual modelling in SketchUp. Please correct me if I am wrong though.

nothing in SU except the cubes-scene and raw 2d export. What are other options? To download something from 3dwh ? (not made in SU either) To use artisan plugin? SU isn't a sculpting tool, better use it to set up a scene and fill it with sculpts.
But I repeat, SketchupNoobie, have you checked meshmixer app? πŸ˜‰

I have not tried the Meshmixer app. I played with Sculptris a little but my organic modelling talents are nonexistent. That's why stuff like this always amazes me.

That being said however, I don't think this belongs here. If none of the workflow is done in SketchUp, I think you should show your models elsewhere. And no, I don't count importing into SketchUp and exporting as a 2d image, 'part of the workflow.'

This is just my opinion. I hope I have not upset you in the slightest. I just wanted to point out how tired others and I am of 3D Warehouse imports and stuff like that.

I am not trying to take anything away from your beautiful model. It really is spectacular. And the fact that I can do nothing in that field only makes it more incredible. πŸ‘ πŸ‘

    • [REQ] Aerial Landscape Trees

Does anyone know where I can find some 2D, sketchy, black and white, aerial tree components for use in landscape architecture? I searched the Google components and the 3D warehouse and didn't find what I wanted so if anyone knows of a component pack or something that would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Here's an example of what I'm looking for.

While we're on the subject, let me ask about something that's been annoying me for some time.

I use SketchUp version 7. I have version 8 installed but do not use it. I downloaded it so I could open attachments, tutorials, etc. that were for version 8. But when I open these attachments, it still tells me I need to have the latest version of SketchUp installed. Is there some way to automatically open these in version 8? πŸ˜•

    • RE: Help With Curved Path

Thanks Csaba. I was thinking about your tutorial.

So would this work with Shape Bender if I apply the texture and subdivide before I bend? And would it also work with bump maps when I render it?

    • Help With Curved Path

O.K. So I am trying to model a curved pathway that I want to apply a paver texture to. I model a straight path and bend it with Chris Fullmer's wonderful Shape Bender plugin. πŸ‘ But of course when I apply the texture, it does not bend with the curve of the path. Is there a way to accomplish this in SketchUp or would this require UV mapping? πŸ˜• Are there any other workarounds I could try?

Here's a few examples to give you an idea of what I want to create.

      Curved path 1.

      Curved path 2.
