    • Stuck. Need help with roof.

A few months ago, I decided to try to model a type of sci-fi "base" based off of an image. Of course, I didn't get very far into it until I put it aside. Now I want to finish it but just can't seem to get the roof right. I've tried a few methods but each one ends up giving me problems and I can't figure out the best way to do this.

If anyone could help point me in the right direction I would be so thankful. I've attached a view of my model, the (only) reference image I have, as well as my model if that helps.

I'm still learning and my model is very simple and messy. I'm trying to work on modelling cleaner. Sorry for the mess. ๐Ÿ˜’ I was worried that I might have to start all over and take a different approach while modelling, specifically the walls, but thought I'd ask here first to see what I can do to it. ๐Ÿ˜•

      Thanks.

      Another cool one.

However . . . please forgive me if I dare to share a few crits. ๐Ÿ˜•

The roof is tiling very obviously. It sort of distracts from the render.

Also, the stone on the ground in front of the steps looks kind of flat. Are there displacement or bump maps on those?

Those are just my two cents. I do not want to take anything away from your amazing models and awesome renders but I just wanted to add a little helpful criticism. I hope you don't mind. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

P.S. Not a crit but what is that thin line above the front porch?

Also do not forget to purge unused components before saving as a template.

likewise, purging will rid the template of all her colors so you'll be able to start off with a blank slate of materials..

๐Ÿ˜ฒ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ That's were all those were coming from! Man, I feel so dumb right now. ๐Ÿ˜’

I asked this question because I somehow managed to eliminate Sang at the start in Sketchup 7 and i would like to do the same in Sketchup 8.

In a new SketchUp window, delete Sang/Susan/Bryce/Csaba and then click File > Save As Template. Give it a name and set it as your default template. You can also use this method to change your default view when you open SketchUp. Just orbit/pan/zoom around to your desired default view and save the template again.

      Hope I was clear. ๐Ÿ˜•

Edit: Rich beat me but I'll leave this up in case you're not sure how to do it.

O.K. I was thinking about messing with the registry but decided I should ask here instead. ๐Ÿ˜„ I guess I'll just live with it. Plus, there's really no reason for me not to switch to v.8, is there?

It's no big deal. I have version 8 installed on here, I just don't use it. I'll probably switch over to 8 eventually anyways.

Pay for a licenced Pro version or install just the free version. This may need you to remove this Pro[expired] version though. Not sure as I've never had to trial the Pro.

Do you have LayOut and StyleBuilder installed also? Are they expired too?

Thanks. Do you have a link to the free version 7? Probably not going to be able to purchase the Pro version until at least after high school. ๐Ÿ˜

LayOut and StyleBuilder are expired too, yes.

    • SketchUp Pro [EXPIRED]

I'm taking a long shot here but figured I'd see if anyone knows of a way to "fix" something that's been annoying me for a while.

I use SketchUp 7. The free version. Somewhere along the line, I downloaded the Pro trial. It has since expired and now, the top of my SketchUp window has the annoying "SketchUp Pro [EXPIRED]" text. Is there any way to get rid of the "Pro [EXPIRED]" part or am I stuck with that forever/until I upgrade.

I'm just being nit-picky and it's really not a big deal but if someone knows how to get rid of this that would be super. ๐Ÿ˜„
