    • RE: Sketchup 64 bit?

My comments and opinions are mine and mine alone. My goal is not to argue, debate, or sway. I simply want to express myself.

I've worked with John for a little over 7 years now. He is a decisive, intelligent, and fantastic leader whom I would follow to any company. Period. I understand that excuses are not requested here, only results. Well, we've been hiring roughly a new person every month since beginning with Trimble. A huge breath of fresh ideas and innovations have been infused into SketchUp's (pale?) skin. It's no mystery that development on the SketchUp client slowed near the end of our time at Google. However, the improvements that I've seen over these short months have been astounding to me. I feel like everyone is very excited for the huge potential and future for SketchUp. Albeit, many wholes have yet to be filled, but that's a challenge we're prepared to face. Will you be blown away with the next version of SketchUp? I don't know. We'll find out. Ripping a software infrastructure out of a company (especially Google) and setting it up in another company isn't exactly like moving a tent between two camp grounds. We're working fast and furious to deliver great products (because SketchUp is only part of our portfolio), but it may take some time to see the strides of innovation that we expect from ourselves (let alone the expectations of SketchUp's passionate community). Patience is a luxury that no software company can ask of its users, and I won't do so today. If you've used SketchUp to successfully complete a project in the last month, year, or eight years, then we've done our job. Of course, we want all SketchUp users to continually find success with SketchUp every day, and if they don't they should absolutely explore other options. Competition does wonders for innovation as well (I learned that at Google πŸ˜‰.

Many thanks for lending me your time and attention.

      Cheers!

    • RE: Latest Sketchup release doesn't support extension rbz files

See if repairing the disk permissions on your computer does the trick.

      1. Restart your computer.
      2. Open a Finder window.
      3. Click Applications.
      4. Click Utilities.
      5. Double-click Disk Utility.
      6. Select your hard drive.
      7. Select the First Aid tab.
      8. Click Repair Disk Permissions.
      9. After the permissions are repaired, exit Disk Utility.
      10. Repeat steps one through nine once more for good measure..

For me, I love looking at 3D plans posted at build sites, and it's pretty easy to tell when it's a SketchUp model. The first thing I do is look for the 2D Bryce πŸ˜‰

      Hi Bob,

This sounds like a similar that issue popped up with SketchUp 7.1. We're taking a close look and hope to have it fixed in the next SketchUp release.

      Hi daiku,

This is a known issue with SketchUp 7.1 that we're keeping an eye on.

Are there others who are encountering this bug?

    • RE: SketchUp edges missing in OS X not in Windows

Turning off hardware acceleration should do the trick, just as Barry suggests.

I've found the following page from Apple really useful to see if a particular graphics card provides the necessary OpenGL 1.5 compliance that SketchUp requires:

Page Not Found - Apple Developer

The page you requested does not exist.

      favicon

      (developer.apple.com)

Since you're running OS X 10.5, it looks like the GMA950 only supports OpenGL version 1.2. On OS X 10.6, is supports OpenGL 1.4, which is better but not quite there.

It sounds like you're running into this issue:

      Error 404 (Not Found)!!1

In SketchUp 7.1, there's a known issue where SketchUp will ignore input to the Measurements box when you click or tab into the box prior to typing.

    • RE: SketchUp7.1 what is Generic Browser ? Style missing..

      Hi genki.tt,

I've been working with the QA team on this issue, and they created a script that will fix SketchUp for you. To do so, try out the following steps:

      1. Download the ZIP file that's attached to this post to your computer.
      2. Close SketchUp.
      3. Unzip the file and open the resulting folder, "Restore Styles."
      4. Copy the SH files and paste them in your Home directory.
      5. Navigate to your "Applications" folder.
      6. Click on the "Utilities" folder.
      7. Double-click on "Terminal." This will open a Terminal window.
      8. Type "/bin/sh style_fix.sh" without quotes and press Enter.
      9. You may be prompted to enter your password. If so, please note that letters won't appear in the Terminal window as you type your password.
      10. Open SketchUp and it should be fixed.

      Cheers!

    • RE: Sketchup 7.1 bugs

Oops. It looks like a missed a step:

      1. Go into Perspective mode.
      2. Move the section plane further into the model so it goes past the roof surface.
      3. Move the section plane back to the starting position. The triangulation should be gone.
      4. Go back to Parallel Projection.

      Sorry about that πŸ˜•

      Hi Everyone,

      @tim said:

there is a really annoying wait after stopping moving before they re-appear.

It sounds like folks have pretty much explained this behavior. We knew questions about this functionality would come up, so we wrote a Help Center article to help explain what's going on:

      Error 404 (Not Found)!!1

      favicon

      (sketchup.google.com)

      Hi berling,

I wasn't able to reproduce this issue with a new file, but I'll download the file you provided and take a look.

      Regards,
      SGT

      UPDATE:

      Hi berling,

Strange indeed. When I switch the camera mode to Perspective, the issue goes away. When I go back to Parallel Projection, the issue is still gone.

I'm not sure what's going on, but at least there's a workaround.

      Hi Everyone,

With regard to accessing the 3D Warehouse through a firewall, make sure the following items are open:

      http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse (port 80)
      http://www.google.com/accounts (ports 80 and 443)

      Hi jjanke81,

As a test, export the SketchUp file as KMZ, then open a browser and click the "Upload" button in the upper right-hand corner. See if you can upload the KMZ manually.

    • RE: Dimension problem

      Hi Bravoddb,

Since copy and pasting the geometry into a new file resolves the issue, it sounds like a "corrupt camera data" problem. This use to be somewhat common in older versions of SketchUp.

I'm going to keep investigating on my end, and I'll let you know if I have any updates.

      Tommy

I saw a report of this last week. As you mention, the issue does appear to be model specific.

What happens if you copy and paste the geometry into a new SketchUp file?

      Hey Chris,

I just wanted to say that it was awesome to meet you in person at Basecamp. Thanks for chiming-in on this thread πŸ˜„

      Hi chango70,

Hmm. That's strange. Try clearing your browser's cache. I'd prefer to show the online version of the data because I have the data in a gadget that can be controlled with filters. Likewise, the gadget will be updated when new surveys are completed.

      Hi Everyone,

As I mentioned earlier, I haven't had a chance to draw conclusions from the data myself. However, playing with the filters has revealed some interesting correlations. For example, the Radeon X1600 appears to be working well on MacBook Pros running Leopard. Feel free to poke around with the filters and see what comes up. This is all good feedback for when version 2 of the survey launches, which will be much more objective.

      Enjoy!
