luckily the trend with illuminated furniture has kind of passed, although in showbiz they make good tool sometimes.

      Thank you James.
I actually just picked a chair that I knew wasn't too difficult to model. I bet there'll be more challenging stuff like "Model This" threads coming soon. I just like this new subforum on organic modeling.

    • RE: 'Trabecula' Forms in Sketchup?

Funny, I have been playing with something similar tonight. There is a plugin called Qhull. You might find this interesting to generate random cell structure.
      http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=19040&hilit=qhull

I tried to combine Qhulls' Voronoi with Lattice Maker and Artisan. It got kind of messy, but at least it looks organic.

      yamanaka_illuminated.jpg

      Hi,

Here is a model of a chair to share with you. Found it in a design book, hope you like it. Kazuhiro Yamanaka made this swivel chair called "How slow the wind". There is a version with textile covering and also one with lighting inside the seat.
I put it here to show the modelling with Artisan (can be made with SDS1 as well).

    • RE: Plz help - fixing IES file? - can't remember where or how

Thank you guys, good to have you alongside. It is just that with all text codes/scripts I'm a total noob.

I am trying to use the IES files provided by Martin Lighting at http://www.martin.com/productgroup/productgroup.asp?pg=martinlight

What is clear now is that the IES data is simply incomplete. The entire values for candela distribution is on zero.

Looks like I have to send a request to Martin directly.

Althoug I got one file from the architectural fixures to work, none of the headmoving fixtures seem to work...

.....get back later, have an appointment

      Thanks for the reply Sir,
i thought of that too, but I did not dare to take that road yet, because I have like a hundred light fixtures to mount.
Just now I thought it could be possible to find the error by reproducing only a few... Ill have to look into that.
btw, the files from IESgenerator do mot render in Twilight, but General Electrics has a good free application that works for me.
      thanks again

    • Plz help - fixing IES file? - can't remember where or how

      Hi folks,

Not very long ago I read a post from someone who didn't get his IES data to work. Sadly I don't even remember which renderer he used.
He solved the problem himself by editing the IES file.
Obviously I am in the same need now, but I can't for the life of me remember where I read it.
So far I searched SCF (also Vray sub), Twilight and Thea Forum until I got a bit dizzy.

Maybe someone has a better memory than mine, or even knows how to find mistakes in IES codes...

      ...thanks in advance
      alex

Great improvement. Had the chance to test it on quite a few 3DS imports - works great and through the new UI has a much better access to all the functions (before I hardly ever used them). Can't thank you enough Thomthom!

not really interior, but I like Matteo's style a lot:

Hughbaun recently showed his Portfolio of exterior SU renders:

      Tnarch showed something special here:

      http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=34058

You should have a look at the SU Artists site, I am sure there is someting you find useful:

      http://www.sketchupartists.org/

How about downloading an interior at 3D warehouse and testing the styles you can get from SU Artists on it.
I bet you are going to have fun with this...

      Really cool renders here guys!

My attempt is rather lame compared with yours, but I thought it was fun rendering in SU only.
Looks a bit like it was taken from a storyboard sketch.
Used Simple Rays for the room and Color by Z for heli and person, no postpro of any sort.
