You might take a look at View>Component Edit>Hide Rest of model
I have a shortcut for it, you may too.

RE: Middle Mouse Button & Laptop
Shep
Hi Shep.
I am writing in regards to the Logitech m560 mouse.
Did you use the LOGITECH SETPOINT software in order to customize buttons for Sketchup?Yes, it's the only app I've set custom functions for.
Did this affect mouse settings in other software?
No, not that I've noticed.
I am a bit reluctant to install the logitech software as this may cause all sorts of other issues.
Thanks in advance.
You Bet,

RE: Knowledgeable stair builders, what is this called?
I think I'd go with Dropped Newel.
[Edit] Also pendant might be applicable

RE: Roof of irregular plan
For starters, Each facet should be flat. I'd try to eliminate those diagonal hidden lines.
If the overhang could vary along the walls, you'd be able to keep at least the long eave straight, simplifying that side of the roof.
Of course, this is all guesswork without the model.Shep

Thanks Box, that looks great.

Newb SubD question, exclude a face from process?
Sorry if this is painfully obvious but I'm wondering if it is or will be possible to exclude a face from the SubD process. For example, if I wanted to connect a subD object to a square (for instance) model without having to produce a transition. In the pic I'd like to subd the green but not the red.
I hope this makes sense.Great Plugin BTW I think I'll be popping on this when I get a paypal account straightened out.

RE: Triple click
If you are using a wireless mouse, does it have a usb receiver?
If so, have you added a usb thumbdrive or other device.
I noticed some mouse & keyboard issues recently while a usb 3 stick was plugged in.
Only a thought.Shep

RE: Find problem geometry after validity check?
Hey Nick,
Any area where you might have done an intersect of faces would be high on my suspect list.S

RE: Need to split object
Perhaps something like this if you prefer solid tools and no plugins.

RE: Subtract several screw hole from a solid
How about making a group that is 1/36th of the whole, array copy, then run outer shell on the lot?

RE: Geometry size not consistent in SU 2015
This model has many layers and some of those layers contain geometry that is not on the default layer. I wonder if some intersect or other operation could have caused this error?
I've seen some odd things happen when Sketchup automatically fixes errors upon saving as well.Only a thought.

RE: Trouble with Subtract operation
Try it with these. There maybe a line on each end causing some problem in that it was co planar with the form side.

Thanks for your replies.
S Shepherd, it didn't seem to work. Also the file you attached won't open in Sketchup 2014. Is it possible that solid tools have been fixed with Sketchup 2015?
I saved back to version 8 and edited the post above. I'm not sure what the problem is but wonder if the scaling is a factor. Also if the cross pieces were a bit smaller or the I.D of your tube larger, the inside corner of the cutting solid wouldn't interfere with the inner wall of the straw.

RE: Problem with solid tools subtract
I reduced the object down from the size of Delaware to something more normal and combined all the subtractions into one solid and it worked for me. It also failed once. There are a couple stray lines reported by solid inspector that are easily fixed. Give it a try and see if it works for you.

Here's a little something on the subject.

RE: Stair questions. Balluster spacing etc?
Your spacing doesn't look so bad to me. The straight run might be a problem if code is is being met. Is it possible to shorten the straight section a few inches?

Nope. It's exactly how I want it skinned. I tried that addon, but it's far too complicated for me to use. Can anyone give me a hand quick?
Curviloft isn't that hard to use. Here's your skin in just a few minutes, mostly for isolating the edges.

RE: Stairs with spiral section. How?
My previous post was done quickly with solid tools, curviloft and joint push/pull.
This can be done with Make and without plugins. It just takes some hand stiching.
