I'll do two cups of pure filtered water, 1.5 cups of whole oats, a pinch of sea salt and ground cinnamon into the crock pot on low or 1 and go to bed. The next day, I'll go down to the kitchen and stir in some organic raisins and maybe some more water if needed, then I hit the showers and in 30 minutes the raisins have plumped up with the water and then we'll serve this with a little extra cinnamon. The raisins and cinnamon are plenty of sweetener so no sugar is added (sugar is evil for humans).- CraigD

Tried this a about 1 1/2 weeka ago, Dude this is gourmet! even my kids friends like it! Thanks C_D

    • Layout and Text

      Hello,
I have been spending a fair amount of time attempting to publish a set of plans through Layout. I have found that text placed in a drawing in SU looses it clearness or edges in Layout, and text placed in Layout is clear. But the arial font doent show in Layout when it is placed in SU, wheras the clunkier Tempus Sans ITC shows and prints without any adjustments to the placement method. What is the the reason for this?

Dream House was/is a great show. I haven't caught a version since the architect built his hillside contemporary near Boulder. I like that show. Defiantly "reality TV' πŸ˜†
There was another show a couple years back, was all about the landscaping, the host ran around with a shovel and drew arcs in the dirt; twas a good program.
There is a architect designed, new house build show that was aired lately, where the project water system is very intense, the gray water, roof and ground runoff are all collected for irrigation, the project is eligible for or is qualified with LEED credits. The project seemed well coordinated and helps the public see the dynamic of better construction incorporated with green features. the reality of wish list and budget was also addressed. I could appreciate more of this type of professionalism exposed to the masses.

I dont watch much TV, so there are probably several shows I dont know about and I havent heard of 'Grand Designs', but I will be looking for it.
Alex your second point is exactly right, there are plenty of extraordinary designers who are not playing for the other team. being my career is designing buildings I try to keep up with all the construction orientated media. SO instead of the idle tv time being sensational news or MTV I try to introduce my kids to HGTV or The other home improvement channel. My kids are influenced by (they like seeing things built) my program choice and their responses to the featured TV personalities are the catalyst for my query. Even they see home development/improvement stations are full of this.
      Good day!

they usually don't mind.... i have been under the impression marketability means the males have to be the flippy wrist kind. I know and have worked with my share.
The shock factor has nothing to do with quality, the quality of the work on these shows is not anything a self preserving, self respecting craftsman would spend a minute considering. Budgets are always in danger of getting busted, and I watch some of the shows to see how many workers might be there from other countries.
The real eye-roller is clients pick up on TV faux pas, and bring them into the project as if they were proven methods. They then have to be rebutted strongly so they understand not to bring up the TV mentality again.
I would really like to see TV emphasize the work of master builders, and architects who orchestrated their projects from conception to finish. The ones who weren't subject to the design / build mentality. I know that sounds like I just contradicted myself, but by design build I refer to characteristics of a project that is neither fully designed, detailed nor planned, where the fine points of the project are left to be decided by the trades, and are rarely questioned.
There should be more Norms' on TV.

Any of you ever watch the home improvement shows?
What I want to know is.....why do so many the home improvement TV channels have gay hosts, assistants, and designers? And who really believes you can re-fabricate and flip a house in 14 days or less and have anything worth a damn.
There was one good show where a guy (Barry Woods)with a notebook and some fancy software and his pretty hostess architect'd houses for makeovers for potential buyers. Anyone know what software they did that with?

Edit: Changed the title; Didn't want to mess with Tom's thread.

I guess just total machine config and performance.
With the whole crowd showing mine turns to wires at scene 11, whereas I can partially zoom in (show about 1/3 of the crowd) to scene 12 and the rotate and only the peeps inthe back go to wire frame. the peeps in the front stay colored.

    • Floater menus shrink out of way

On the school videos the user has his floating menus are on the active screen and when the drop down menu is minimized the overall width of the floating menus decrease. Is this a feature of mac only? I cant seem to find anyway top make my floaters shrink beyond the standard width.

I see the solution as just tweaking the program to show what needs to be on paper

Revit is defiantly a good program if it is that versatile, and you dont have to be a Computer Science Guru to make it work dependably.

nice job rendering the gate keepers digs,
With the greening of construction, and the complications pertaining to availability of materials, the cad software has to be flexible so design can be accomplished using methods other than stud construction. There are references to alternate methods on this forum, (carpet tiles to build walls, Joe Woods query for building materials in Europe), where it sounds like quality material is scarce. The quality of framing lumber in the US is no secret, and if we (collectively) develop a new technique or system in the near future (like the robotic layering of concrete slurry, where the bot reads directly off a set of digital drawings, grabs the market,..... Point is...can the formentioned cad program alter its wall composition significantly enough to be useful? or would you be using a simpler program.

I am now a 1 man shop, and hope to keep it that way. But you never know. Thus the question about can you get more done and finished. The other question comes from the how files are referenced through a pc. I guess the file question comes from the aspect of system dependability, and requires a proficient user,...I havent taken the time to understand the file structure of revit yet, and that will be the best way to answer this question. But a good example is I have different degrees of files systems in my pc and after all the preliminary stuff, I usually move a good file to a client folder in another location where all the factual informatin for the project is kept, like rasters, specs, selections, civil, clients dream list etc. Then when I back up I can grab it all from one location. My cad system has a file structure that keeps me on my toea keeping up with all the supporting cad info.
This may be because the windows environment was not it's native file system.

gutters dn spouts, cornice, bell dormers, curved eaves on the roof!!!! that is quite an extensive revit model, I'm impressed.. So you just addressed a couple of my other thoughts about roofs in this program. (side note.I bought my current cad program almost solely on the basis of how it built complex roofs...it was THE only one at that rime that built any roof, except archicad ..which was my other strong contender and point of this thread.)

And the other one was: Does it allow you Time: I mean you have a system to design buildings in... so your not just guessing at stuff... you build many custome details into your work.... gotta detail it... and...you have to finish the plans....finish...finish.... hopefully todsy... but I degress... the families make the project comee to finish and give you some off time..

How about file management... if you did something like move the data... for whatever reason... whether in the computer, from a file location to another drive,(maybe too extreme, but for example, you need referencing files to be addressed easily, cause you want the entire drawing to be there a year later when you open it kind of example.) or 2) move data inside the revit files. (for instance) a 4 floor-4 unit condo, that you drew as one building, four units per floor; and very late in the process, the realtors called and want you to reorganize drawings so they have one unit per document with 4 floors eash. does that kind of stuff send the job file into total disfunction.... I know it does mine, cause i use that draw it once mindset and I draw some entities one time but use them (layer) repeatedly.

I get the idea, when looking at Revit City site Gallery, that either there are difficulties making complex models (there are a few significant buildings) most are fairly contemporary. and that due to the LARGE # of entrants the model aspect in general is fairly simple. I have made the tutorial models in Revit myself, but I certainly couldn't call them real life modeling. mine tend to be similar to yours, high in detail, far from builder grade, but they definatly need to be documented cause the contractors I deal with are not mindreaders. It looks like you can generate substantial dimensional features in Revit in a reasonable amount of time.
Thanks for your input, I like software that works right, and you are helping me understand Revit . I never know when to trust those salesmen.
