    • RE: Electronic Permit Plan Submittals (July, 2007)

We are in Colorado, and are starting to use an outside plan review entity which then notifies the building dept that requirements are addressed. I have applied for 3 permits in two jurisdictions in the the past 2 weeks. Neither were willing to accept my plans as pdf, yet.

On another project I am having docs sent to bidders and starting the entire process again: The large format becomes difficult for the subs if they are electronic. When i first started on cad I used 11x17 for a few projects with OK results, I am considering reinventing this format for the simple reason of pdf the drawings to subs, and letting them use their own printers to print up drawings. Of course there would always be the official version on approved paper, and a set of plans at 11x17 would could end up being 100 pages, but it would be easy to distribute, and copy. Gov't entities could do the same, store the files electronically and print when needed. But they too have their acceptable format.

I think I made my last blue print this week, that old machine sure takes my breath away.

    • Electronic Permit Plan Submittals (July, 2007)

Today, I spent $200 for 4 copies of plans, to apply for permit. Seems to be a waste of paper... Is anyone on this Sketchucation Forum in a jurisdiction where electronic plan submittal has been implemented? Any thoughts about whether it is a good or bad process?

    • RE: Winter Scene

I think your first image was closer to being real.
In an urban area the ground snow and the snowing sky and clouds reflect the light equally, This is how it is so bright in/during a snowstorm. Now if you are in the country, deep forest in the pitch black of night, when it is snowing sideways and visibility is zilch, the windows will have a amber glow, and shadows will emanate from that source.
I think that light source on the left is confusing the issue.

    • RE: Diet getting a bit boring.

I am not super-fit or anything like it, but there are so many diet choices we can make to help ourselves...
I sometimes skip breakfast, but when I do make breakfast, it is oatmeal, or fiber one w/ honey and cinnamon or grits,
My lunch is the open menu, If I have time and an appetite I go out to eat, at one of the buffets for under $10 all I want. But I don't gorge myself.
the final meal of the day, there is the customary drink, I like white eine or a redbull and vodka if I am still working >), or the bloody mary; but the local grocery store has an excellent salad bar with fresh veges, fruits and the best couton toppings u could imagine, there is real crumbled bacon, sunflower seeds, sesame sticks, bread (dont care for this), and with a little oil and vinegar for dressing, these things are munchable! I use the home dressings, but frequently forget to add anything...the fruits and veges are so good!

I will admit, if the kids didn't want to eat, I would have cheese and crackers & wine for dinner every night.

    • Bucks for starbux: go juice for the keyboard jockey (July07)

I live in a town of 20,000. I get my daily go juice from starbux and today while getting my 5 shot caramel machieta (sp) I figured out we have 13 independent coffee stands at major junctions or corners around town, and I probaly missed a couple. Each sells their pricey cup of joe with fancy toppings to a line of eagerly waiting clientèle. I rarely am the only person in line. It amazes me we will pay $3-5 for a cop of coffee, and the number of vendors around here bonifies the solidity of the industry.

this is dumb now, but my fav was to give the intern the spec book from their first big project and tell him "now you have to proof-read your specs". Really good if it was a multi-volume doc.

    • RE: Do we have a JOKE THREAD here? (Part 3)

An 80 year old woman was arrested for shop lifting.
When she went before the judge he asked her,
      "What did you steal?"

She replied: "A can of peaches".

The judge asked her why she had stolen
them and she replied that she was hungry.

The judge then asked her how many
      peaches were in the can.

      She replied, "6".

The judge then said, "I will give you 6 days in jail."

Before the judge could actually pronounce
the punishment the woman's husband spoke
up and asked the judge if he could say something.

      He said, "What is it?"

The husband said "She also stole a can of peas."

    • RE: Joke time in the new bar!Posted: Wed May 16, 2007 2:02 pm

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.
The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small.
The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.
Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.
The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah".
The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?"
The little girl replied, "Then you ask him ".
