      very impressive, Archi Rag.

thanks for the sample. I perfectly understand, why you hat to divide... πŸ˜‰

I especially like the last image. it has this wonderful science fiction gangway flair. would love to see the London Barbican renovated in that style

did you ever ask yourself why the good guys in movies always look solemn, whereas the bad guys are laughing all the time? I think I want to be a bad guy - life will be much more fun... πŸ‘Ώ

@majid: nice planets. all you need now is a background with some stars...

      very impressive, David.

it never occured to me to use several section planes to show different elements of one building grow.

      thanks for the demo file

      good idea, remus.

by the way: the component spray tool is definitely one of my favourites!
it comes in very handy when creating a forrest (and when using a simple 2D face me component (as dummy for a complicated 3D one in indigo), it even works really fast... πŸ˜‰

I'm from Liverpool, so I much prefer Scouse to Sauerkraut. Now there's a word that's gone the other way....even if it is spelt Labskaus. πŸ˜‰

but the word Labskaus will only be farmiliar to people living in the very north of Germany...

I am from the south, hence I prefer Sauerkraut.

but back to English Language: I came to London because I love the sound of British Englis. Only I discovered that there are so many different accents it is barely justified to speak of a British English (my 30 colleagues speak almost 30 different accents!) 😲

      @rsw said:

      a) copy your object
      b) paste object (su will choose a basepoint initially)
      c) pasted object will now be selected, with move command active - move object using your preferred basepoint (just clicking on the basepoint and escaping from move command will suffice if you don't actually want to move the object)
      d) paste again and su will use your chosen basepoint for inserting your object.

when I paste the object, it is attatched to my cursor - so the first basepoint I have to click is the one it is attatched to. I tried to move it after setting it down and then pasting in another copy; without success... 😞

the strange thing is, that I believe to have experienced SketchUp remembering your preferred insertion base point (exactly like you described) - however, when I just tried, it didn't work πŸ˜•

you sounded almost German, Alan 🀣

now, if your DoppelgΓ€nger encounters a Poltergeist in a Kindergarten, eating Bratwurst with Sauerkraut - well that would be quite a Gedankenexperiment!

    • RE: Where is SU 7 ?

      I agree with you, remus.

in the last few months my wishes for SU7 have shifted from an allmighty application to a stable working core unit (with, of course, high poly and multi core cpu support)...

with the best possible integration of ruby scripting!

I think to give the wonderful minds behind all these scripts that make SU such an incredible app even more influence to implement their little programs would be the greatest improvement.

therefore my biggest wish is, that Google announces a Ruby contest(lets say four times a year) where the best new scripts (or script updates) are chosen and their writers get a nice tropy money (for the hundrets of red bull cans they needed πŸ˜‰ )

    • RE: Urban mixed use project

I definitely like the combination of render and SketchUp - gives a handdrawn style (except for some pixeled lines at the right wall) while providing realistic lighting. πŸ‘

the uneven floor texture is convincingly like a carpet. to me it seems a bit glossy though.

I would love to see some shadows in your last image - to get a bit more contrast.

but for your final goal is a night time shot, we will see dramatic lighting anyway.

I am looking forward to your next result.

    • RE: Curved Patio Cover Plan

the first idea that jumps into my mind is to use SketchUp πŸ˜„

no, honestly. I would use your SU model, select all the top faces of the roof construction and look up the size of it in the entity info.

then simply dra an overall shape arround the area and get its size.

but that would only work if the sun came directly from above... πŸ˜• so you will end up having more shadow than the mere top faces of your construction.

do not hesitate to check the DELL Precision series w/ Quadro FX mobile GPUs too.

thanks, I will definitely have a look at it. do you know if dell laptops are cheaper, if you order them in Germany (rather than UK?) I consider getting a german one anyway - otherwise I am stuck with an english keyboard (without ae, oe, ue...) πŸ˜•
