a beautyful collection of springs. somehow they really seem to tell a story.

simply extend the ground plane beyond the screen borders and leave a high-res version of the image cook for some hours and we will have a real beautyful "still life", soon to be found in the tade... πŸ˜„

that's really an impressive example of what is possibe with the combination of several rubies...

    • RE: [Plugin] Terrain Reshaper

Didier, this is marvellous! thank you so much! 😍

some observations after a first short try.

after completion of the process you have to smooth the terrain manually (context click > soften/smooth edges). does it make sense to automate this process or would that bring disadvantages? πŸ˜•

indeed, with the "merge coplanar faces" function you are likely to use some faces, especially near the border.

really great is, that the borders are maintained - thus the reshaped terrain does still perfectly fit into surrounding geometry. πŸ‘

what would be great: if holes in a terrain would be cept. but thats probably the same mentioned issue you want to fix in the next release (if you do succeed in fixing it, you are one step ahead of SketchUp's from contours function πŸ˜‰ ).

    • RE: SketchUp in Cloverfield

so we know now, that SketchUp helps movie productions.

I would love to see it the other way arround. what I really would like to see is a
"a small group of SCF people is stuck in SketchUp" movie, a bit like Thron:

"..they model their way through complicated geometry and only with united forces succeed to overcome every obstacle, for example by draping a footpath into an insuperable terrain.
when they are attacked by a horde of shadow bucks, the only way to defend themselves is to stamp a platform into the terrain and create an array of defence walls.

when one of the brave SCF heroes trips on an reversed faceand is in severe danger to fall through a hole, suddenly a small troop of Ruby Coders drops at an intersectionnearby and performes a quick series of geometry manipulations, cleaning upthe mesh and closing the faces, then flinging a bezier curvearound the fallen hero and creating a tube along it's path to secure him.."

oh, we should really write a screen play and then create a movie 😍
thad could be such an exciting story!

      what a wonderful story, orgelf!

only thing to change: in some images shadows obscure parts of your model. try to lift the whole model up until it's lowest part is at the hight of the origin. thus you can prevent parts of the model being below SketchUp's ground plane (because shadows stop at this level).

ah, good to know, that there are biased renderers that support instancing as well. I just have to find the time to learn them 😒

but please, post your tests here as well! I want to see loads and loads of instances πŸ˜„

    • RE: Instancing in indigo

as far as I know, v-ray doesn't support instancing at present.

the most amazing tool about indigo in this case is not only that it allowes instancing, but that you can use a low-poly component as proxy in SketchUp, that are replaced with a high polygon component, when exported to indigo. otherwise you would have no chance to handle such a huge scene in SU...

I am not aware of any other render-engine, that does that. πŸ˜•

    • RE: Instancing in indigo

this image may not look very interesting. the only purpose was to test out polygon limits of indigo.

well, I am tempted to believe there are no limits πŸ˜•

one of these forms has more than 55.000 polygons. in this scene I had almost 24.000 instances (low-res proxies in SketchUp, automatically replaced with the original by indigo).

that means, that indigo had to handle more than 1.3 Billion! polygons(1.300.000.000) 😲

only 60 MB of ram were used by indigo for this very small image (exponentially more, when increasing the file size)...

    • RE: Some of my works

by the way: I am not aware of any render engine that supports SketchUp sections.

section planes are merely a display featyre in SketchUp and have no effect whatsoever on the geometry therefore they are not exported to a render engine. (please correct me if I am wrong - would love to have a renderer that does sections (SketchUp section export I mean)...
