Keep up, Pichuneke as soon I will be interested in this stuff myself, too, and I'd like to learn from somebody!

But I am asking for help! 😆 I don't know how to fix those errors when exporting to .ase or .dae format... 😄

Anyway it will be very fun to kill aliens with my blaster inside your roman basilica! 🤣

Some mistakes appear when trying to export the model with the plugin from http://hardpcmtechnologies.blogspot.com/2009/06/hskp2unr-version-093-aset3dpsk.html

      exporting bugs.jpg

I have tried a different exporter, and the results are even worse... 😞

      exporting bugs2.jpg

I have tried exporting it with Collada, but UDK reads a lot of files, not a single one (the two columns). If I export it as an .obj to blender, and then from blender I export it to Collada (using Blender as a bridge) results are the same as using the .ase exporters. 😒

Gaieus, if you read me: It's the model of L.VII.C of the roman forum 😉

      Thanks! Again!

I will try tomorrow to do what you have done, with some of my models. I did some things right, I have that plugin (there is another different to export to ASE too), but I got lost when trying to put it in the editor. I believe that we are going to have fun with this method... 😉

This also creates some legal questions. As the engine is free if the cost of the project is below 5000 $; Does it mean that you can freely distribute a 3D engine of your building at a cost of 3.000 $? Or even use it for rendering?

All my work is for free, but this aspect may be very interesting for a lot of people, here in the forums.

Perhaps we should have this discussion in this thread, as it is a more general thread, and not your question about delete normals: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=23403#p200768

Hi, is there anyway I can change or delete the normals Sketchup creates? I ask this because in both Unity and UDK game engines, my meshes look aweful. Yet come out fine in leadwerks. Here are some pics.

The Unity error is only small.

      Thanks.

      Richard.

I have tried to do what you have done with UDK, but there is a problem. I am a newbie (well, I am a newbie with everything 😆 ). Can you tell us how did you export it, although you have problems? I am not able to export the entire model as "one piece" with textures, I get 160 separated pieces... I don't want to importunate you: I am an absolute newbie and I just want to have a walk inside one of my models.

Even if you are busy and don't want to ask me, thanks a lot. I see now that is possible to do that.

A link to my previous post in the "official" thread of Unreal Development Engine: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=23403#p200768

Note: I export with my free version of sketchup, but there is not problem as I use Blender to obtain different (textured or not) formats.

    • RE: EPIC Unreal Development Kit - now free for non-commercial us

I have managed to export part of a model (there is a limit of 65000 faces), without textures, using a .obj exporter written in ruby. The problem is that if you export the model with textures (using collada .dae, for example), every component created is related to different textures and exported separately, and it can be a real nightmare to join 160 pieces manually. I don't know if there is an alternative way to export everything with textures as a single piece.

I have to learn how to include collisions, is not "authomatic". It's generated separately.

And I am just realizing that this thread has gone way off-topic. Sorry Pichuneke, I think I'd better split it somewhere and only leave the relevant things (like material images) in place (although as I am thinking of this, they should go to the Components-materials-styles foruum instead) 😳

I am the king of offtopics, in fact I love them 😄 What you say is very interesting 😉

      And finally... a Kerkythea Render.

      foros1b.jpg

Danik, an idea for you, L.VII.C and Saikindi (I didn't know about Saikindi... 😄 ). I believe you must talk and agree to locate them in Google Earth, the models are too heavy and won't be uploaded to 3D Warehouse, but if you download them, you only have to copy and paste, and the models will be placed in the right place.

Also, a terrain that joins all the models would be fine.

I really enjoy your work. Thanks 😄

I seen quite complex models in KT and rendered them (models that where impossible to even rotate in SU or display fully). I would say that if you can load the model in SU and export it, you most likely can render it. Try MLT, but for first run keep resolution under 1000x1000.

It works, I will upload some renders later 😉

The roman arcs are the ones you can see in Google Earth.

And yes, it's a nightmare of memory for my computer. Kerkythea doesn't allow to render it; the entire model is too complex 😢

I have done this just for fun. I supose that this thread won't go any further.

Well, It's really curious for me the way the roman empire style ended in your country. Here, visigoths evolved using a style (columns and arcs) that is believed they took from some regions at the north of spain in later roman period (not remains of it except in tombstones). After it, moorishes copied it:

Also in my region, the barbarians abused the roman remains, mainly as stone quarries. From one villa rustica, there are still 2 out of ~35 columns left - used as grindstone by a blacksmith.

It hapened in all the roman empire. In Spain too. In fact the famous mosque of Córdoba (now is catholic Cathedral) has one of the best collection of roman capitals of spain. In their columns.

Definitely not. This is a remote, half barbarian, military province on the frontiers, in the 4th century. Not even one piece of such (mainly earlier) "clascic" column has been found here so far.

Ok, it's curious and interesting, for me. I am wondering which textures are you going to use... I supose that the walls were painted.

(YES, I know that texturing roman walls is a nightmare, that's why I ask you that 😆 )
