Well... I was refering to which game engine ๐Ÿ˜†

Textures for roman paintings are as we say in spain "a headache". It's problematic to find good ones. Anyway I want to make some of the in the future (too much things for the future... when I have time) for my model of the roman theatre.

No paintings? Were fragments of paintings found in the archeological exavation?

That white walls are not very roman, although I know that Spain is not Hungary...

A bit offtopic. It's not a picture, it's a song. The english version of a classic spanish song called "Mi aguita amarilla", in english "My little yellow water". It's educative, the little yellow water cycle. ๐Ÿ’š

In Spain, in recent years, there is an invasion of Santa Claus. I am traditional and I prefer the Three Kings (but if Santa Claus gives me a present on christmas I would accept it ๐Ÿ˜„ ). Santa Claus it's something new in Spain.

You can model the Statue of Constantine with Makehuman:

I have always thought that Dinamic Components would fit perfectly for the greek and roman ionic, chorintian... columns and friezes. As they had exact proportions and distances according vitrubius it would be easy to make a big building with a dinamic component, automatically repeating the columns with the right distance. You know, in the real word there would be differences respect theory. I don't know if you could adjust it in a dinamic component through a dialog box.

I can't do that, I use the free version of Sketchup (I have never earned money with it). But I give you the idea, if someone wants to do that.

Maybe this is worth a try:
      3D Object Converter
      skp -> obj -> ase

It supports over 500 file formats (mostly games), but unfortunately not Sketchup or Collada.

I have to pay to export to that format, Aerilius... ๐Ÿ˜ž

Anyway I have tried with one of the basilicas and... ๐Ÿ˜ž ๐Ÿ˜ž

I am going to wait. Perhaps in a future someone can find a solution for that. Or if I buy Crysis and I play with the PlayUp plugin...

      I wasn't suscribed to this topic and I haven't read you untill now! ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜ณ

As you see Kerkythea is very easy to use. You could improve the rendering using bump mappings. I believe that for the bump mapping texture you can use the same texture for the friezes. (Bump mapping creates a "false" 3D over flat surfaces).

I keep trying to export your models to Unreal Development Kit, but my progress is very slow. Exporters to .ASE format don't work perfectly... ๐Ÿ˜ž

    • RE: EPIC Unreal Development Kit - now free for non-commercial us

      I finally solved the problem.

I used the original SU2ASE exporter. You can download it here:

http://www.russelllowe.com/publications/caadria2009/caadria2009.htm (Click on SKETCHUP EXPORTER RUBY SCRIPTS , I don't like to put the direct link).

You will download a zip containing different exporters. One of them is called SU2ASE. There is another called SU2ASEUT (for unreal engine, in theory it would be the right one) that produces glitches, too... ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Unfortunatelly I had to manually set the scale to 40x. And the texture... that's another problem. The texture is applied to all the component or model, not the different parts of it, (as it happens when the other exporter works). And the texture is applied with a escale 2x bigger... ๐Ÿ˜ž

I hope I can manually fix this ๐Ÿ˜ž

      This is the result:

      a.jpg

If someone can tell me how to manually "paint" the models... the alternative solution would be to fix SU2ASE to prevent erasing the information of the different place for textures, as Hard PCM's Exporter does (I believe that you can't understand me, due to the way Unreal Development Kit works and my english). But I don't know ruby programming ๐Ÿ˜ž

Edit: NO! I have detected glithes with this exporter too, with some missed faces... see here:

I have made an interesting finding: http://www.russelllowe.com/publications/caadria2009/caadria2009.htm

Download the zip in "SKETCHUP EXPORTER RUBY SCRIPTS" I will comment it later in the other thread (I am getting crazy with so many threads about this stuff! ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿ˜†

I believe this is the right place to discuss, as it is the generic thread.

I tried to triangulate the model before exporting, with TIG's plugins (both triangulate faces and triangulate quad faces) and the problem persists. So I think that is a problem of the .ASE exporter.

UDK imports both .ASE and .dae, but if I try to use .dae 160 different files are imported and... well. No solution for the problem at this moment ๐Ÿ˜’

Hmm it is free for commercial use. You keep 100% of the first $5,000 you make, then after that Epic want 25% of anymore you make. Which is a fair deal ๐Ÿ’š Your problem in that thread looks like it could be not triangulated, I got that error once in Leadwerks when I didnt triangulate.

      Richard.

I have to look for a ruby script that triangulates as xrok1 says ๐Ÿ˜„

Respect the 5000$, just use it for projects if you earn few money. I was thinking in a Museum, with a virtually reconstructed monument and the childs walking on it, for example. (but without aliens equiped with blasters ๐Ÿ˜† ).
