Hi everyone! Our IT reset /reinstalled my Sketchup 2021 and this notification keeps showing up every time I open a new file. I always have to redo it all over again (update the path, save template, etc.) But won't get updated. I appreciate your advise. Thanks!

I'm using Sketchup Pro 2021, and I noticed that the file being opened from windows explorer, either by double clicking or RMB menu\open with... is seriously slow as compared with opening from inside the Sketchup program's menu \File\open...

The files I'm referring to are located in server and the time difference for the response alone (that mouse icon processing) is about 3-4 minutes. This lag is really not normal, especially that most of the files are accessed via Windows explorer (double clicking) and not really from Sketchup program.

I hope this can be fixed.

Thank you TIG! Is there a way to rename using filter/ conditions? Example I have time scene names, like Scene 1 10:00am, Scene 2 1:00pm, Scene 3 6:00pm, (etc.. lots of it)
I want to rename all time to use 24-hour military time convention. Is it possible? So all with "10:00am" becomes-> 1000. Same goes with others.

I've noticed this bug since the old version of sketchup, now I'm using 2020 Pro, but still getting this random behaviour of texture. Please see the screenshot below. It seems like the texture automatically reverts to random /unedited version after exiting the component edit.
Anybody figured out how to fix this?

Hi Everyone! One of my favourite plugins is Copy Along Path by R.Wilson (in JHS Powerbar toolbar)- this is very easy to use with objects that has non-specific orientation. Example, hanging a sphere or light bulbs along the line with axis on center.
But once you decided to target a specific orientation, this is where it gets confusing-- help please.

Anybody knows how this plugin reads XYZ? I want to speed up my process. So far I do guesswork, or trial and error changing the axis of component until it works. I believe there is a faster way.

Please see my video screenshot below, you will see me changing the axis in the component to find out which ones will work. This is just an example. Imagine in my real job, I have to guess 5-8 times just to find out which one will work, that eats a lot of time.

Hi! I'll be straightforward here. (Say you're inside a group, thus I keep emphasizing the word "Nested" because we all know hide doesn't work in ungrouped object with respect to scenes update).

2019 Pro:

1. enter a nested group,
2. right-click that nested object choose hide,
   = Test click any scene, it's hidden. That scene was automatically updated with the hidden object. Done.

VS.

2020 Pro:

1. enter a nested group,
2. right-click that nested object choose hide,
   = Test click any scene, it's NOT hidden, still there.
   That scene was NOT automatically updated with the object you wish to hide. Task not done.

You need to add another step which is:
3. After choosing hide, exit the group. Right-click the scene and choose UPDATE. That's the only time it get's hidden.

I believe the 2019 version of hide is better. 2020 version of hide is quite a hassle. Should fix this bug. Thanks!

Hi everyone!

Have you encountered a file that is difficult to do scene transitions? I mean assuming the enable scene transition box is on, normally moving from one scene to another should be smooth. But in my case it's not.. the machine struggles. What's unbelievable is that the file is only light, 20MB'ish building. Nothing special, simple geometries. I also have a 500MB+ fully landscaped with architect's stadium and all, a sports park and my machine is not having any hiccups at all on any scene transitions. But the 20MB file is struggling. Any advise?

Hi everyone! I'm fond of using pipe and extrude along path plugins. However, I needed something that can do multiple line selection at once. I'm trying to recreate a similar wavy trellis as inspired by Cincinnati John G. and Phyllis W. Smale Riverfront Park. Kindly refer to my screenshot. It will be a big time saver if I can use pipe along path (or shape extrusion) from multiple selection.

From experience I know that scaling imported geometry can lead to strange things later on so its best to get the import right from the beginning.
IF you import something at the wrong scale it can be good to use a script that scales the definition. (Can't remember the name of it but you'll probably find it by searching for scale definition.)
That resets the scale of the scaled-down object to 1.

Hi everyone! I need help on scaling my newly exported objects (from Rhino*). The conventional method is to select all, then scale (i type in the number). But this can get problematic when model is huge- so can you direct me please how to input these in ruby console:

1. Select all
2. scale X .001

*reason is the bug in Sketchup part when opening Rhino exported models (Rhino to Sketchup)- Sketchup will always read it like x1000. So I need to rescale down to .001 to bring it back to proper mm scale.

Anybody knows if there's a plugin that acts more like a "turbo smooth" in 3DsMAx or ala "Spline" in CAD? I often design organic shapes, and to start, I quickly draw in plan using polyline style (series of connected straight lines).. I wish there is a plugin that can convert my polyline into a nice curve quickly without so much deviation.

I've been using Sketchup from v.8 'till present 2018 but I've noticed that the Scene Management hasn't improved any further.. I have 100 scenes. I want to mass select 25 or them and drag them all to any position I want, say in between 80-81 (Just like how you mass select/drag in Windows environment). Mass selection and editing. Any possibility? Thanks!

Hi Everyone! I like the idea of using dynamic components for making building facade (simple glass with panel/frame division). I understand that many of these smart components are now accessible via 3D Warehouse but most of them are limited to work only via X Y scaling /stretching.

I'm looking for radial scaling, for example, I have a circle on plan with array of facade panel components along the boundary (see screenshot).

When I scale up the object, I want the number of panels to multiply/ increase accordingly as the radius/diameter increases (and vice versa).

Is this possible?

Hi, I want to report a bug in value control box.

Normally when creating a rectangle or square, I would type in the values separated by a COMMA (,) in value control box to specify my measurement. Example: For a 100x300 rectangle shape, you will type in 100,300.

However, this comma doesn't work in my other workstation, and took me a year to figure out! (I accidentally observed the value control box while doing a rectangle and the preview values display semi colon instead of the normal comma). So I figured out that the Sketchup in this particular PC only accepts SEMI COLON (;) as separator, no wonder the comma won't work. Example: For a 100x300 rectangle shape, you will type in 100;300. Weird isn't it? I'm using same Sketchup 2018 pro.

I suggest, play around with the rectangle tool, and the first time you hit mouse button (starting point of rectangle)- values will be displayed automatically corresponding to your mouse movements, and notice the values separator, it may be comma, semi colon or something else. I hope this helps.

I tested in my 3 PC, only one have this issue.

All PC's have same region and keyboard/language input (US layout). Only difference is OS.

PC 1- Win 7 Pro - Sketchup 2018 Pro - comma worked
PC 2- Win 8 - Sketchup 2018 Pro - Semi colon worked
PC 3- Win 10 - Sketchup 2018 Pro - comma worked

For now, I will regard this as a Sketchup bug.
