You just need one or two more steps....after using follow-me like you did, then select all > intersect with model(if necessary) > and erase the unwanted geometry. Then use eraser + shift or control to clean up the lines on the surface.

this is the manual that i downloaded sir: http://www.scribd.com/doc/7253631/VRay-for-SketchUp-Manual i dont know what version this manual is for.. nothings written about the version, but i can somehow keep up with it now. π
