Layout: Love it or Loathe it?
Hi Skupusers,
I will be presenting at the 3D Basecamp UK at RIBA on the 9th of September 2015 - the last slot of the day (some coffee will be consumed).
My presentation is about using both Sketchup & Layout in pitch & presentation context.
Some reaction - brief, monosyllabic, or gastronomic about this posts would be interesting to help shape my final words. LMK if you are happy to have attributations.
Me, I love em all......

RE: Any info about new version?
Hmm - layout seems to hang a fair bit - lags & thinks about things - after this update: model isn't huge, so will persevere and see how the worklflow goes.

RE: I need to render a Skp stadium model.
With Lumion and large files just break them down and import as separate .skp models. I did this for a gas platform and a processing plant in situ, with LPG tanker and pipes for days - gives you a quicker work flow as well when elements need updating/changing. Good luck. I am currently designing for UEFA events - most probably same pitch (so to speak).

RE: SketchUp 2014
Having reinstalled skp 14 & I have managed to get one plugin running in path / folder as shown. Will leave rest until later - Lumion changes call !!
Hope this helps.

RE: SketchUp 2014
Hmm - tried the plugin solution, no joy on my PC - back to 2013 for the day - I have clients whom arent as lovely as an unexpected upgrade.

RE: Any timers / timesheets which record sketchup activity time?
Excellent - did Google for such! ta!

Any timers / timesheets which record sketchup activity time?
My work flow means that I can be jumping between models/projects and can 'lose' track of time that models really take.
To bill and to estimate projects well in the future I would love to be able to have SKP stop/start a clock for me on each file - be it Layout or Sketchup - that I am working on.
Any ideas or clever Ruby people?

RE: LightUp v3.0 launched
Excellent update - as ever, cannot keep my brain up with the advances, but I am able to turn round renders with this software at high speed and high quality in work with low deadline thresholds. Thanks Adam.

RE: I quit
Best resignation news for a while - congratulations - your plugins have helped me change the quality of my work in so many ways. Thank you.

RE: Lumion Flythrough
I have just purchased Lumion in the UK and got a discount via sales@cadpoint.co.uk. Am mightily pleased with it working both with Sketchup and as a standalone for big outdoor projects (currently an LNG plant with oil tankers et al)

RE: 3D connexion Space Mouse Pro - problems

Well after being passed up the chain, over 28 emails to and from me and lots of delays.....it is now working. I had to download the latest driver (10.0.10) which is still in beta, but due to be released soon. So all seems to be OK, finally! Now at least I'll get a chance to use it!
If you want to download this driver, go here http://www.3dconnexion.com/labs
My patience was wearing thin, let's hope it works consistently now! Or I will be asking for my money back.
Hurrah!! my 3D Connexion Space Mouse now works in SKP 2013. Thanks Sally

RE: First Look at a CryEngine 3 level buildings designed with SU
All useful stuff - I have a need to render a (hugeee) gas refinery site which I have modelled and now need to move up to the next level for client presentations. Lumion would tick many boxes, but will take a look at the others suggested first - cost is king!

RE: Custom text feature removed in LO 2013?
Yep - definitely NO font window on Mac Layout - quite annoying!!!! I use fonts all the time in layouts - ugh! Show me I am wrong!

RE: Having Troubles With Rendering
I had a similar 'plight' with a design I was creating for a very large model of a bespoke hospitality (tensile/inflatable) structure being built on the beach at Cannes - the model was constructed in SKP to show a beautiful pitch render (to the MS client) via Lightup, as well as serve as technical layouts, construction details, and work-in-progress sign-off scamps in Layout.
The necessary additional detail/model (including glowing inflatable cell-structure) size was killing my renders (and my soon to be updated PC), so I came to the state of breaking the model down and 'sub-render' (eg the exhibition zone) elements.
Sketchup & Lightup work brilliantly - it is just the scale of my designs that sometimes get in the way!!
I would concur and suggest 'pretty house' and 'real house' models! There are limits with all of this.
Good luck with it!

I've just wrote a post on how to fix the permission for RoundCorner plugin http://inicholas.net/fix-roundcorner-plugin-problem/.
That looks like a good blog post. Thanks for doing it. That exact same thing has been covered here on SCF dozens of times but apparently it can't be addressed too many times since people are still missing this important step. It isn't just Round Corner that this pertains to, either.
Thanks all - for the plugin & the sorting out the 'security' fix - I was in same boat, which is now a curved bottom wonder!

RE: Light Emitting
I agreement with Adam on that having just had to render in Lightup some light tubes and gone through the process - LEDS at bottom: put emit on that face within tube, translucent tubes, & then interior point lights, with IES props added to them

RE: LO 2013 new features
Yep, mis-read.
But happy with Layout improvements, it is 30% of my workflow, and is a complimentary part of my Sketchup life. Many improvements possible all round - much time available

RE: LO 2013 new features
Having read about 'section planes new feature' in LO13 I cannot fathom where it does exist!! Any ideas?
