I didn't remember so I had to download it again. I just called Joint Push/Pull, made sure it was set to thicken, clicked and released on the surface, moved the cursor, let go of the mouse, typed the thickness, pressed Enter.

Yeah, that's kinda what I did. But it was easier to just pull from the bottom. Thanks for your help.

    • Push/Pull a Rounded Edge?

Hi, I need help using the Push/Pull tool to extend a surface with a Rounded Corner. I have created the desired idea, but I would like to push the surface to .120". If you look at the attached, you can see I can round a flat plane, but how can I round the Pulled plane?

Basically I need the .120 surface to look liked it was punched by a 10 ton press.

Ensure you have not disabled or are missing the file sketchup_webhelper.exe, it is the connection file that allows SU to connect to the warehouse.

    • RE: [Tutorial] Animator Quick Start

Ok, it took a while, but I got it figured out. I had to create a variety of transitions, once I placed the objects in the correct location I backed out the object to a location off-scene, then just reversed the movements.

      1. Fixed the screws in place
      2. Backed them off
      3. Moved them off scene
      4. Created transition to move them back
      5. Created transition to move them again
      6. And again.

Not real pretty, but it works. Still may play with some linear motions, but I got it solved. Not sure why the graphics are pixilated, .avi sucks, .mp4 is fine. I'll play with FPS.

      Hi mgfranz!

You might like to take a look at a tutorial by Justin Geis which shows you how to create an exploded view animation using Animator. Around about the 5:30 mark, Justin shows you how to reverse the explosion so that might give you some idea of how to achieve the effect you want.

The tutorial can be found at:

Let us know how you get on.

      NF

Thanks NF, but I don't think using the explosion will work in this instance since I have the need to place a total of 12 screws in 3 different locations. I suppose I could do some Easing on the fly-in group, let me do some research. I have attached my SU and animation file for a visual reference, just remove the .txt extension.

Great Animator Fredo! Once I got my system issues fixed I was able to create my animation in less than 10 min after watching the tutorials. So now I want to try something, is it possible for a object or group to "fly-in" from off scene? Like if I want to have screws installed in a component at a certain time point? For example, in the first 4 seconds of my animation, a group is moved into another component, at this point, I want a group of screws to come flying in from off scene and then place themselves in the clip at 5 seconds, do their thing, then finish the clip as normal. Possible?

Well, I believe I have some insight into the problems I have been having with loading .rbe files. Unfortunately my hard drive boot sector failed horribly, so I was forced to replace the disk in my laptop. With a fresh install of Windows 10 including all updates, I installed nothing to the system except SU 2016 as Administrator. I downloaded the latest version of Fredo6, Animator, RoundCorner and installed them using Windows>Preferences, restarted SU and all plug-ins loaded perfectly. So there was something seriously wrong with my system somewhere. In the process of reinstalling all necessary programs and will be restarting SU after each install to verify that nothing screws up SU.

Would anybody provide a link with the 8.1c ~ 8.1f versions so I can run a few tests?

Unfortunately your phraseology, "...[did] a fresh install as Admin...", is NOT entirely clear.
If you mean that you did it in the way that I outlined, using "Run as administrator", then please make it clear.
Installing it as a user who happens to be an 'admin', or even whilst logged-in as the administrator account, is not the same.
At the moment your text is not unambiguous...

Yes, I did "Run as Administrator" for fresh install.

Despite all of your text you have never clearly said how you actually installed SketchUp...

      Note:
Do not set the installed SketchUp.exe to always run as administrator.
Do not run SketchUp.exe as administrator.

      Important:
SketchUp always needs to be correctly installed.
The only proper way to do this is as follows...
If it's already installed close SketchUp.
Find its installer exe file - probably in your Downloads folder ?
      Select it, right-click > context-menu > "Run as administrator"
If it's already installed choose "Repair" when prompted.
      Otherwise choose to "Install"...
This should set permissions etc properly.
      Restart SketchUp and test...

If the problem persists try Uninstalling SketchUp, and deleting the related folders in:
      *C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2018\SketchUp*
If you have any 'custom files' within subfolders like Materials, Components, Styles etc, then you might want to save them elsewhere, before doing the folder deletion.
You can move them back after doing the Install properly...

No, I did, "Restarted system and did a fresh install as Admin,". I also said that I DID delete all related folders in AppData. I have done the install, uninstall, repair so many times I have it memorized.

And like I said previously, I can't run 2018 on this system due to the problem that started with 2017 regarding the lack of support for the Intel Graphics drivers, (which I do not understand), so 2016 is what it is, unless I want to buy a new laptop.

Could you advise on your version of Setchup 2016.

The good one should be 16.1.1449 (64 bits).

      Thanks

      Fredo

      SketchUp Version 16.0.19912 64-bit

That may be the reason. You run Sketchup release M0, which may have a problem with rbe files.
So I suggest you upgrade to the latest version of SU2016 M1.

      Fredo

      So I spent a decent number of hours this weekend doing the upgrade to v.1449. Doing uninstall using the Installer to uninstall my previous version, uninstalled all traces of any SU directory or plug-ins and ran a registry clean to remove all known traces of SU. Restarted system and did a fresh install as Admin, started SU, entered my serial info and downloaded Fredo6 v8.1 and Animator, installed using Windows>Preferences. Upon start of SU I received this;

      Error Loading File C:/Users/mgfranz/AppData/Roaming/SketchUp/SketchUp 2016/SketchUp/Plugins/Fredo6_!LibFredo6/top_LibFredo6.rbe

I even tried starting SU as Admin, same error.

So I went back and uninstalled SU using the installer, cleaned out all directories again, and reinstalled as User, same plug-ins, same error on start. I'm quite confused as to where to go next.

Ok, that makes sense. Each scene is basically just a snapshot of components, but then why are any of the thousands of animations I have seen appear to have the scenes modifying components? Or is that what is handled by the plug-ins?

I am having a problem running any plug-in that has the .rbe extension, not sure why but all of Fredo's latest extensions are .rbe and therefore I can't run them. And on another note, my laptop can't be updated to 2018 due to the graphics card.

You only have one component. The scene does not change the properties of the component, they just view the model as presented.

Check out the attached model. 3 separate components on three separate layers. The scenes control layer visibility.

      Hope this helps.

So, what you are saying is that I cannot move or modify components in an individual scene without effecting every scene that is using that component? I am using 2016 Pro, but I remember in a previous version, (I think it was 2012), that I could move individual components in a particular scene, and then using Proper Animation I could play the animator and each scene would display with those scene changes. I thought the Animator that was included in 2016 was a similar feature as Proper Animator?

In reading the following tutorial, https://help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000146, an the following page Animating Sections and Scenes, I am understanding that each scene should follow any changes to a particular scene including properties.

    • Scenes Not Diplaying Correctly on Workspace

So I am having a problem with Scenes.

I create a simple Rectangle then save as a Component, Layer 0.
I create a Scene1 of this Component and select all Properties by default.
I then create a new Scene2, edit the Component, then Update Scene2.
I then create another Scene, same defaults, edit the same Component then Update Scene3.

I check my Scenes in Default Tray, all the Scenes are showing as originally created. But if I click on Scene1, on my workspace it is displaying exactly as Scene3 was drawn, same with Scene2, all the Scenes display exactly the same even though in my Tray they are all different.

What gives? Test skp attached. Thanks,

Using SU 2016, Is there a way to run an animation that allows me to edit a group or component midway through scenes? Meaning I can Set a component to place, then move that component to Set place, but then I want to edit another component and move both to a location and then Set another scene. When I try this, the edited component shows up as modified in all scenes.
