• RE: Mismatch Icon sizes?

Ok, Gang, Re-Verified - Icon size large option was checked. I deleted all older extensions, and moved all the newest ones to the proper User....Plugin folder where they should have been all along.
Then installed them through the Sketchup extension manager
Then I located where all the extension toolbar icons are that are coming in as too small.
As mentioned there are a 12x and a 24x png image in each reference folders
Here's what the GUESSING BEGINS? (Please let me whats wrong!!!!, probably everything!!!)

• Im guessing the 12x is linked to the Sketchup small Icon choice and the 24x to the large icon check box?
• As I dont want to mess with the creators code... I took a 24x icon did a (Save-As) and made a 48x icon in Photoshop.
-Because it is more "blurry" I cleaned and sharpened it than saved it into the location of the developers 12x and 24x location.
-I am guessing in the code it links to whatever the 12x image is to the small icon choices
-And if you check the large icon "box" it grabs and uses the 24x
-So since I have limited knowledge, to link the new 48x icon is out of my abilities....but
-A can do a (Save-As) of the 24x icon and save it as (24xoriginal) so the paths will ignore it,(And I can put it back if it doesn't work).
-Then rename the 48x image as 24x, so setup pathways will pick this 200% larger image.
????? How crazy is this way of thinking? If this does work, am I really screwing up things up?
Thanks, Matte

• RE: New Mouse Button Set up (Logitech G502)

I guess it's a multi key operation, since I cant find a (select button, or whatever the key equivalent is for the "Left Click" button... I'm guessing the "left click" and the copy buttons can not be added together. So the best I can come up with is to first use the "left click" button than use the "copy" button than use the "left click" button again and than choose the "paste" button and than use the "Left Click" button again. You cant just put the curser over an object and pick copy, move it where you want it and hit the paste button. So instead of 2 button set of actions you must use 5 to accomplish the same thing.

For some reason that never worked? So I thought there must be another keystroke to activate it?

• RE: Mismatch Icon sizes?

Sorry didn’t mean to be mysterious…. I have a 17 Inch Alienware Laptop running at 4K. The native Sketchup Icons seem to rescale correctly, its just all the plug-ins Icons that are ¼ size. I’ll try copying them to the folder location Dave mentioned and see how it goes. If that doesn’t work I will try to reinstall them again from the Extension Manager as I did originally and/or the Sketchucation Extension Store and see of that does the trick. I'm not sure if I ran things “As an Administrator” but when I reinstall everything I will make sure to do so. Thanks Dave and Juju for your input. I’ll let you and everyone else know how it goes in case someone else might run into the same problem.

• New Mouse Button Set up (Logitech G502)

Hi All,
I just bought a new mouse (Logitech G502). I am trying to set up a button cor Copy and one for paste. Normally (Ctrl + C = Copy) and (Ctrl + V = Paste). But "I think" for Sketchup you need to make the buttons (EDIT+ Ctrl + C = Copy) and (EDIT + Ctrl + V = Paste)........ But I do not know what the keystroke equivalent is for the (EDIT tab in Sketchup to activate the copy or paste part of the commands? I tried using the Multi Key macro to recoed the steps since I didn't know what the EDIT button was?
Thanks for your help!!!

• Mismatch Icon sizes?

Good Day all,
I just reinstalled SU 2017 Pro onto my new laptop..... I went and grabbed most of the Rubies I use, put them into the "Tool" folder, and activated them through the "Extension manager". All good so far. Problem is the native sketchup Icons com if fine, but ALL the external ruby icons are about 1/2 or 1/4 the size and barely readable? Any Thoughts? Screen Res too high?
Thanks, Matte

Can I go to (Don't know where they are kept) each undersized icon double the width and size of it and re-save it to have it match the native Sketchup Icon size? Tried to track down the add on icon locations to try this....but no luck yet.
Thanks

OOPs, I must have been really tired... I thought they HAD to be in the tool folder! I originally installed everything through the native extension manager, but also copied them to the Tool folder as well.....I Thought someone mentioned that's where they had to go!!! I'll erase all the non-native extensions from the tool folder and verify Sketchup put them into the ...Plugins folder as you mentioned, I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes.

• Simplify Contour lines

Is there a plugin that you can take an imported topo line and reduce the segmente?
each topo line is at the right height. But each line is made up of hundreds of little segments. Its ok to sacrifice a little accuracy for a lot less lines. I thought I should fix this first before making faces?
Thanks, Matte

• Terrain Cleanup Concept/Steps Help Please!

Hi all,
I am attempting to make a decent usable terrain....

• Had someone convert a TIN to a DXF contour (Couldn't do myself)
• Trimmed the extremely large file area to only use the area I needed (To reduce file size)
• Purged unused > saved and ran sandbox > From Contours > Saved.
Now here is the part I am not yet knowledgeable about…….
• I want to reduce the polygon/triangle data to reduce file size
• But I don’t want to deform the terrain too much as to not be usable for “accurate” modeling of walkways.
• I tried using “Artisan” > reduce polygon, but for 50% only got a 13,297k file to go down by 100
• Is the original file size small so I should use it, or is there some way to make it less data intensive.
• Does there exist something where it will convert all faces within, oh lets say…1 degree into one continuous face thereby eliminating lots of hidden lines that make up each little section?
• Could not find any tutorials yet still looking. Any advice GREATLY! Appreciated.
Thanks,

• Image Lighting Question?

Hi Boys and Girls!
I was hoping to get a few ways to solve a "problem". In the image attached, I want to have a bit of light shining through the building windows to make this fake scene look a bit more believable? I basically made the coffeshop in SU and rendered it (with shaderlight) then put on a layer in photoshop and the background image on another, then sort of blended them together (Beginner at Photoshop). I dont know if the window lights can be faked with photoshop, or if I have to make a SU 3D Background scene with the background texture in it and put lights behind the window "openings" to make it shine light to the scene? I can do this, it would work well but it seams like alot of time? ANY thoughts on a good meathod to achieve this?
Thanks, Matte

I tried the Inkscape method and it worked like a charm! I will also try the converter option as well to have another way to solve this problem.
Thanks again!

• PDF to Linework in SU

Hi All,
I am given CAD work drawings in PDF format. I'm trying to figure out a way to use a ruby or set of rubies to get some basic line work to work with? Is it possible? I'm having trouble downloading thomthom's Index and bitmap to mesh. I was trying to put the PDF into photoshop, make it a bit map (really bad quality?), insert into SU and then run the bitmap to mesh? To see what I get? No luck yet. Am I traveling down the wrong path going this way?
Thanks,

• Render improvement advice, please!

Hello, I am attempting to jump into the render world, so I have LOTS! To learn….. Any positive advice would be GREATLY! Appreciated. In this second “experiment”. I threw My SU rendered image it onto an image I pulled off of the net just to see how it would look.
First I learned, When I saved my SU rendered image in a PNG format….I get JUST got the central object image, The SU background comes in blank!

• So I exported in all JPEG form and I got the full Image (the one I am posting here.), But my quality level dropped ALOT! So is there a better way to save?
• Another option I am going to try is to use the higher quality PNG image only version and overlay it in Photoshop on top of the background image. I am guessing, if the back ground is Low res and your SU rendered image is Hi res, it will look “fake”, same in reverse as well.
• So I think In photo shop (I’m a beginner in as well), if the SL image is on one layer and the background is on another, you can individually raise and lower the contrast, brightness and quality (graininess) separately until they “match” before mixing them together onto one layer? Any advice greatly appreciated, otherwise I will keep you posted of what I learn so maybe it might help someone else down the road.

Grab cad is a cool site! that I did not know about. But no power with water spray type tile cutting machines. Any kind is good, I went be a local home depot and saw a few portable types with stands there, but any brand would be good enough.

• RE: "Perfect" Isometric, Diametric, Trimetric?

Sounds interesting? I'll have to play around with it a bit. Maybe make a few "Angle" blocks for these requirements, then can insert it into each drawing.
FYI:
Diametric - 10 degrees (left edge-(width) @ 100% length), 40 degrees (right edge-(Depth) @ 1/2 true length, Height @ 100% normal heigth.
Trimetric - 25 degrees (left edge-(width) @ 100% length), 45 degrees (right edge-(Depth) @ 90% true depth, Height @ 80% true heigth.

Probably really tricky to apply to a rubyscript? Hopefully I can try this summer to learn about making script.

Anyway, thank you very much for the "work around", can't wait to get home tonight to try it!
Thanks,
