      "...the surface normals direction..."
it took me time to translate and realize that you mean the frontface-backface thing.
I mistook this sentence with something like orthogonal/perpendicular...

Yes, sorry. Sketchup is the only 3D software I know of that calls them front/back faces, in everything else they're referred to as "normals".

......, never could find a pattern or somehow reproduce it, just seems to happen randomly.

Fortunately for SketchUp there seems to be no inconsistency about how the next extrusion will come out. It all depends on what the first P/P did.
You need to determine if the P/P face is enclosed and even that doesn't seem to matter too much unless you you "trow in" using [Ctrl].

If you push or pull a face the newly created perpendicular faces do match the push/pulled face as if it were part of a box. This seems pretty much predictable to me.

      Now:

      • If you p/p a face and see blue (back) inside the box, then all next ones have blue (back) inside.
      • If you p/p a face so white (front) ends up inside the box, all next ones do have white (front) inside.

I am well aware of how the Push/Pull tool works, but this is not the issue that I outlined in my first post.

Given that the previous message I had stated that in all likelihood it isn't a problem within the file, I would have thought such a sarcastic answer wouldn't have been warranted.

Have you ever found a work-around, or solution to it? Glad I'm not the only one.

That's weird. I just saved the file with the problem, and opened it... Still a problem. Saw the file size was large, went in and purged it - problem solved. Decided not to save it, and repeat those steps just to test...

Opened the problem file again, no problem now. Even without purging. Issue can't be local to the file, I guess?

    • Push/pull double click wrong direction

      hey guys,

This has been a sporadic problem for me for years, across various PC's.

As we all know, if you've used the push/pull tool you can double click on a face and it will extrude it the same distance as the previous command.

I have a problem (that seems to appear at random, and save into the file/model) that causes the double click operation to extrude in the opposite direction that it ought to. I have of course ruled out normal directions, etc.

Like I said, this has happened for years and years, but always seemingly at random - but once it starts doing it and the model is saved, it seems to keep doing it within that model.

The strangest thing is that if I push the geometry in the opposite direction that I need it to go (to set the distance on the push/pull tool), I can then proceed to go around the model double clicking things and having them extrude in the correct direction. It's like the double click function is reversed.

Is there a setting that I've been overlooking the past decade, or is this a bug? Does anyone else suffer with this? I've never made a topic about it before because it's a rarity, but still annoying.

    • Sketchup 2016 rotate

      Hey guys,

It seems to me the new inferencing system on 2016 has kind of ruined the previous functionality of the rotate tool, unless I am doing something wrong. It's a bit tricky to explain...

Imagine you have a line drawn at an arbitrary angle and wish to rotate it to the red axis. Previously all you would do is select the line, select a rotation origin and a reference point, then move the reference point to align with the red axis. Done.

The new inferencing system appears to rotate the protractor/compass of the rotate tool to "zero" on the line that you are using as your reference angle/point, throwing out the ability to snap to the red axis.

I must be doing something wrong, surely?

Thanks for the help guys, I got in to see an email from them this morning telling me that they hadn't received my email at all. Not sure where that's gone; lost in the ether of the internet somewhere.

    • Formfonts

      Hey guys/girls,

I have recently just renewed our company's subscription to Formfonts after receiving an (automated) email from them saying that our membership is about to expire. This was fine, I paid and the account was opened again - but about a week or so later I received another email saying the membership is about to expire and now we can't access our account.

I have tried to get in touch via the contact via email last week but haven't heard anything back at all; not even an automated response to say they got my email.

Their blogs, etc don't appear to have been updated in a long time either; are they still trading or have we just lost our money? Does anybody have any further information that might be of use?

    • Watermark Blending Modes

I don't know how difficult this would be, but I'd love to have blending modes (screen, multiply, overlay, colour, etc) as an option when adding a watermark to a sketchup style.

    • Component browser AND styles broken?

I'm having an odd problem here, basically I can access all of my local assets through the component browser, and can also use the search function to search the 3d warehouse; but the "preset categories", such as "people" and "landscape", etc turn up 0 results when clicked.

I am aware I could just access it via searching, or using the website (slow, clunky) but I'd love to know what's causing my problem as I used the "landscape/2d" and "people/2d" categories a lot in my workflow.

      Thanks in advance.

Kind of, though I am working with basic lines, to create basic fences (thin, not solid), thus there is no face to select to extrude; only lines.

    • Extrude plugin

      Hey guys & girls,

I'm just creating a site plan and have all the outlines of various fences, etc draped across it and am looking to extrude them all directly upwards by 1800mm - which should give me fences that follow the contours of the land - much like how the extrude in 3ds max works on an open spline.

I was just wondering if anybody could point me in the direction of a plugin that does such a thing, should one exist? I have had a search, and whilst I've found some wonderful extrude plugins, none of them seem to do quite what i'm after.

      Many thanks in advance.

      Perhaps?

I suppose I had better run some tests and report back! Really annoying at the moment, because aside from that I've had no problems at all on the new version (minus one random bug splat).
