Sketchup files not showing preview
Hi, a while ago my computer started just showing a blank page for my sketchup files without the usual thmnail preview. Any ideas what the problem may be and a fix?
Cheers

Something to keep in mind, all software, just like any analog tool, is only as good as how well you learn how to use it. The correct hammer and chisel in untrained hands will reveal a driveway from a block of marble instead of a David.
Of course thats why I started my post with, "I know this is perhaps a bit over the top" I was trying to convey the program's potential not necessarily our potential to produce this standard, of course

RE: Blender forum in sketchucation
I know this is perhaps a bit over the top, but this link shows what blender can do Ultimately, all within the program

RE: Mo' stuff
Nice work Stinlie
I must look at Modo, what is with the texture though. The block faces are reflective or shiny most notably on the faces of the blocks to the left of the entrance?

Okay, I found a good intro into Blender ., shows the new UI. Looks so much easier than all previous versions.
That is a good one to start with and that young guy (Blender Guru) is a very impressive individual.
I am daunted by Blender though, however the UI is Soooooo much better than it used to be. A hell of a lot of work must have gone into itI have been playing with Blender including watching tutorials for a total of about 5 hours, I had to go and do a model in SU instead of shaking in the fetal position in a corner. It makes me feel so stupid
(Edited) The following link is Blender statistics apparently it is the most used 3D modelling software ever and is downloaded 16000 times a day with 6.5 million downloads per year!!!!! and that is going on 2017 stats.

Blender forum in sketchucation
Hi all, I posted a suggestion in another thread so sorry if this seems like a duplicate. I am posting here to start a new thread.
"Just a thought bubble, might it be a good idea for the Sketchucation executives to consider creating a new forum in sketchucation specialising in transitioning from Sketchup to Blender? This may reinvigorate Sketchucation which has taken a beating since Trimble took over Sketchup. This may be a great help for people transitioning or simply for Skethup users to use the qualities of both programs. It would certainly work for me. Anyway like I said just a though bubble"
There has organically been a lot of chatter on Sketchucation about Blender of late. So am asking others who think this idea may have some merit for you to please hit the like button.

RE: SketchUp 2019 release
Just a thought bubble, might it be a good idea for the Sketchucation executives to consider creating a new forum in sketchucation specialising in transitioning from Sketchup to Blender? This may reinvigorate Sketchucation which has taken a beating since Trimble took over Sketchup. And would be a great help for people transitioning or simply for Skethup users to use the qualities of both programs. It would certainly work for me. Anyway like I said just a though bubble.

RE: SketchUp 2019 release
Hi Chipp, just downloaded it. I had a play (actually did a short course in 2005 for blender) the UI was nasty. Navigating is very Sketchup now, so no learning curve on that aspect. It think trimble will live to regret the Accountant heavy trajectory that will alienate many users. The cost of SU plus render engine plus plugins,$$$ and for a modeller that cannot handle heavy poly models utilising a single thread. In my opinion this is the biginning of the end for sketchup.

RE: SketchUp 2019 release
I know this is a big question.......... I think I am over Sketchup and have been feeling more and more that way and I saw SU 2019 comming and it was not so much of a suprise. I am looking at C4D as Solo suggested and Blender (Ugh, that interface) and perhaps others. I mainly do Architecural, Interiors, exteriors and Built Landscapes ( Hobby but slowly transiioning int proffessional use.
Am not being lazy, and am watching Blender tutorials and looking at C4D which looks interesting. Am looking for a perspective from an SU guy who transitioned to another modeller as to other options or perhaps to expand on the capabilities and learning curve of C4D.
Any assistance would be greatfully recieved -
RE: SketchUp 2019 release
I must admit I was perplexed by those eagerly awaiting SU 2019. On the recent history of Trimble SU some were expecting something good?

RE: HOVERING PEOPLE?
I am thinking that the plane on which the people apear on is glued to the surface, just a guess but unglue and place them individually.

RE: Interior
Hi Stinkie, that has all the charm of an observation room in a childrens mental hospital complete with 2 way mirror, Well nuanced and rendered

RE: Drawing organic shapes on a face
Thanks guys. will try both of those

RE: Cardboard model
That looks, well almost not too disturbing Stinkie, what went wrong
Great model and render very believable indeed

Drawing organic shapes on a face
Hi All, I am trying to draw complex organic patterns to viualise a 3D cardboard cut out of trees in a forrest to end up as a ligt box. As always I have always had issues with not making a true polygon. I keep on testing the polygon as I go and try to make sure I an drawing on the "on face" but raely achive them. I do not have pro at home but have CAD, so I cant do in CAD and import. I am generally using a series of Arcs to achive the shape tracing upon an exploded image as a template. Any advice to assist would be welcome.
Thanks

RE: Dome
Hi hepf, nice work mate
will you be intergrating it into a larger model? I wish I would have used that plugin as some time back I was playing around with a tassilated dome in native SU by off setting and extruding the surfaces by hand. Had I known...................
