    • RE: [Plugin] Edge Tools

      Hi.

This is a very useful plugin that I use everyday, however I would like to modify just a little thing that I think might be easy but I don't know how.

When I click the icon in the toolbar to DIVIDE/SPLIT faces, the line created is always a regular line. So far so good.
However if I assign a shortcut to DIVIDE/SPLIT faces, the line created is a construction line -- I have to use CONTROL to change it to a regular line.

Is there a way to change it so that the shortcut command also creates a regular line without need to press CONTROL?

I know it's a nitpick, but maybe it's something easy to change in the code, if you could tell me what line to change.

      Thanks in advance

      thank you

sorry to bother you again, just one last question:

when I do that, it works almost perfect.. it just doesn't create any faces on the slices...
      am I doing something wrong?

I have 'add section faces' on...

      hi

I don't get how you do that last cut in the video
How does it snap to slice(or detach) right at half?
When I try to do that it just slices the lines from the viewer perspective (like in the move before that)

      thanks

    • RE: Will SketchUp Ever Wear Big Boy Pants?

      @pixero said:

hide all edges on imported highres geometry

I do this with every big model -- soften edges: smooth normals, soften coplanar, and about 40 degree angle
      Also disabling "Profiles" in Styles
      Helps a lot.

    • RE: Will SketchUp Ever Wear Big Boy Pants?

      my 2 cents

the question can be asked in reverse also:

why are all those big boy apps not as easy/fast to work as Sketchup?
why aren't they as easy to learn?

I think all apps have their pros and cons, there is no perfect app.
Sketchup has always been a fast/easy modeler, even if that comes with the price of not being able to handle high poly models.

For me, proxies, components and good modeling habbits help a lot to work around those limitations

    • RE: Is a GPU upgrade worth it?

thats good to know, because my 100+ mb files lag a bit
but I always thought that it was "normal" and that Sketchup was mostly CPU/RAM intensive, so I kept my old GPU

definitely going for that upgrade then, thanks for the reply 👍

    • Is a GPU upgrade worth it?

      Hey guys.

      I'm thinking about upgrading my GPU (Nvidia 750ti 2gb) to a Nvidia 1080 8gb.

I use sketchup 2018 with Vray, and have an i7 6700k with 32gb DDR4 and 2 fast SSDs.

So, for sketchup and rendering I dont really need a GPU upgrade, but I want to try Lumion for the animations, and a 750ti won't cut it...

      My question is:
Will I notice a viewport improvement in sketchup with that GPU upgrade? And also a will my CPU+GPU rendering times benefit from that?

Or is that upgrade (750ti to 1080) only worth it for other 3D software, like Lumion?

      Mesh Maker, that's exactly it!

thanks all the guys for the help, and Sdmitch for creating this plugin

I could do it manually, of course, but this saves me a lot of time 👍 👍 👍

thanks guys, I'll try those plugins

the intersect grid with surface solution would be ideal, but when I do that some faces dont get properly created and then this happens:

      strange, right?

      thanks, but that's not it...
that plugin creates an actual solid ceiling grid

I need something that only divides the face, with lines

    • Need a plugin to do this

      Hi there.

I was wondering if there is a plugin that can transform this:

      https://i.imgur.com/4BrSMiF.png

      into this:

      https://i.imgur.com/l5K6gSb.png

WITHOUT having to manualy create a grid and then trim it to the face...
it's because I have A LOT of these irregular shapes that I need to create internal grids, so that I can create elevations with smoove tools, like this:

      https://i.imgur.com/CEhVl1u.png

I already tried TIG's Splitup - only works with quad faces, and Quadrilaterizer - doesn't create a regular ortogonal grid...

So, anyone knows about some plugin that creates a grid only inside an irregular face?
It would save me a lot of time from having to trim all those grids...

      thanks

I tried that and it works

But the older method was way easier, dont know why they changed it.

    • Match color + Vray 3.4

      Hi guys.

I'm using VRay 3.4 now, and I want to use my own textures and change them in sketchup, with "match color" tools in the edit tab

But then when I render the scene those textures reset to their default colors...

      Am I doing something wrong?
Is there another way to change the color/saturation of a texture with v3.4?

      Thanks for your time

    • RE: Realtime ArchViz: SketchUp to Unity Workflow

      Hi,

sorry for my ignorance in the following questions, but I'm really interested in Unity and realtime rendering, even more after seeing that it's rather simple to import Sketchup models into it.
But I would like to understand a couple of things before investing time/money in learning a new software.

      1. I know it all depends on the quality and personal preferences but, once you learn how to work with it, is it easy/quick to set up scenes? or is it complex (like rendering in VRay) and requires you to tweak a lot of options and test the lighting and stuff until you reach the desired results?

      2. Unity can export animations like walk around 2 minute movies, right? But what about interactive animations, the ones where the client can walk around using WASD and mouse. Does "the client" have to have a powerful GPU/CPU/RAM/etc to run it?

      thanks for the help

the new version is great, but I unistalled it because it crashed skup a couple of times
I'll wait for the final version

Also, it doesnt work with VRay tools 😞

one thing I like about VRay tools is that I can open Skup with VRay disabled, and turn it on only when I want to render

yeah, sorry if my response seemed upset, I didnt mean to be disrespectful nor am I upset

I was just being playful and engaging in the sarcasm of the whole "google it" thing and throwing the sarcasm back at you.

I know sometimes people get misunderstood on the web, cause it's all just written and open to misinterpretation.

      Thanks for the responses 😉

    • RE: Looking for Photoshop's version of Sketchucation

ok, let me be more succinct:

as I said, there are a bunch of Photoshop forums out there, and yes, I know how to use Google.

But instead of registering and snooping around in a bunch of Photoshop forums -- only to be able to know how they work -- and then abandoning my registration in most of them just to choose the one that is more similar to Sketchucation, I thought it would be more respectfull to the users and mods of those forums, and also a bit more efficient to ask the question I asked in the OP. Since there are a LOT of photoshop experts in here.

But thanks for your answer. Your sarcasm was as useful as the one I'm applying here. 😄

    • Looking for Photoshop's version of Sketchucation

basicaly I'm looking for a site, just like Sketchucation, where people show their work, share their tips, plugins, etc, and help each other become better

      But for Photoshop...

I'm thinking there might be a few, since Photoshop is more popular than Sketchup, but is there anything similar to this one?

      just one question:
I'm a VRay user so I dont know what portal light is in Thea. Is it like rectangle light in VRay?
