      well...
all i can say is, i never delete faces from an extruded object like you do...
and i never seen anyone do that, thats why i was surprised

just build the model like it would be built in real life and real scale
use groups and components, and avoid overlaping objects, and you wont get any artifacts...

      edit:
here you go, a nice youtube tutorial that teaches you an efficient workflow

      are you serious?...

if you are, then you should really look up for some sketchup tutorials
do a search on youtube for tutorials

there are some good ones, with files included, where they teach how to model a house
im sure you'll learn the architectural workflow in no time

i've been looking for this answer myself since i started learning VRay

and the only sugestion i found till now was to render the image in a bigger resolution and then resize it, but that takes sooooooooooooo much more rendering time... 😢

i hope someone here has some tips to help us

    • RE: 2D animation

i tried them, but its not exactly what i want, cause they lack the drawing tools..
Synfig actually has drawing tools, but its vectorial, like Illustrator

i need something like Sketchbook, perfect for cartoon drawing, but with "bone" rigging and frame by frame animation

from what i researched, Toon Boom and Anime Studio are the industry standard for that.

I tried them both and they're pretty simple once you figure out the logic behind it (with the help of some youtube tutorial videos, of course hehehe..)
I was just wondering if there was someone here that used such kind of software to help me decide between the two (or maybe other one that i dont know of...)

but thanks for the sugestions! 👍

    • 2D animation

anyone works with 2D animation? like cartoons and stuff?

i bought a drawing tablet, cause i wanna revive my cartoon drawing skills from the school days, when i used to sit in the back of the classroom and draw cartoons in the maths and chemistry books (im an architect now...)

i already use photoshop, illustrator and sketchbook, but i was wondering what's the best tool to animate those drawings?

from what i researched, i found Toon Boom, Anime Studio and Flash to be the most common..
but which is the easiest to learn? (something with sketchup's learning curve would be great, cause it's not for professional use...)

software recomendations other than those 3, are also welcome, of course

    • RE: Living Room ( SU+CINEMA4D+VRAY )

hi.. i know this is an old thread, but maybe i can get some help

      first of all, great renders..

my question is: i like Cinema 4D cause all of the reasons you mentioned, and i export models from sketchup in 3DS format, by material, as well
All works great, but only 7 out of 10 materials get exported...... some materials export as a solid color
and its not a C4D open file problem, its a sketchup export problem, because when i open the folder i exported the file to, some textures are not there...

does this happen to you? can you export to 3DS with all textures? if so, how do you do it?

    • RE: How to Render Diamond and Setting the lightins?

im not a very good help when it comes to VRay, because im still learning

but, the render engine i used before, Artlantis, had plenty of 'jewelry shaders' that would be perfect for what you are trying to do...

its good and fast, just not as good as VRay of course, but maybe there are some jewelry vismats for VRay as well..

    • RE: DOF render

      very nice renders

before opening the image, i got the optical ilusion that it was a grainy image, not cooked long enough, but after opening i saw that its just the back wall texture..

DOF added with channels in PS? or directly with vray?

    • RE: My first render

      very nice render

have you worked with VRay for Sketchup before that?

i ask because i am learning VRay4Skup, and before that i tried VRay in Cinema 4D and also in 3DS Max (demos), and it seemed waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy harder (to learn AND to work with), so i chose VRay4Skup

do you have the same opinion?

    • RE: Bad wall rendering

try increasing the subdivs and samples in the Irradiance map, here:

      1.jpg

the values will depend on the scene and will increase rendering time a little bit but try something like

      HSph. subdivs to 64
      Interp. samples to 40

thanks a lot, i got it to work

of course you are right, i masked the wrong part in the material ID
such a simple mistake and it was driving me nuts

      thanks

im sorry if it seems obvious and dumb but..... i dont follow..

invert the mask, right? in which step? i think i tried it all, lol... maybe im not exporting the channels the right way?

i feel such a noob for asking this but, is there a "for dummies" tutorial for this that you guys know about?

    • Grass with VRay material ID and PS... what am i doing wrong?

so, i've seen a couple of tutorials and they both teach this method to save Material ID channel with VRay, and then replace it with grass from a photo

my problem is: i cant get the shadows on like they teach in the tutorials.....

      1. i rendered the image with RGB, Alpha and Material ID channels, and saved it in .PNG
(i will use a simple model so that it doesnt get confusing)

      post.png

      post-Material ID.png

      1. i opened and layered it all in photoshop in the right order, then applied the Layer Mask > Hide Selection to the grass rectangle in the original render
and the Layer Mask > Reveal Selection to the rest of the image (minus the grass rectangle) in the copy layer of the render

      1.png

it all went well, BUT, when i do the last step of the tutorial -- select copy layer and choose multiply, to turn on the shadows on the new grass -- it just darkens the whole thing and no shadows....

      what am i doing wrong?

    • RE: MSPhysics 1.0.3 (16 October 2017)

      wonderfull! thank you!

i was just looking for something like SketchyPhysics that worked with Sketchup 2014

i have just one question: does the speed of objects falling/moving depend on CPU/GPU power?
cause if i remember correctly, in SketchyPhysics objects seemed to fall/move faster

keep up the good work, cant wait for the final version

    • RE: 3D Visuals for Grand Designs Live in London/Bulbgate

ok, then i am sorry if you feel that my comment harassed you in some way... it was never with that intention

however, if i may make a sugestion: if you dont want critiques, you should say that upfront in the original post

you know, people in here are so accustomed to post their work so that others can give their opinions and help to improve it, that when someone (like you, for instance) posts something, then other guys (like Massimo) will give you their experienced opinions about it, without you even asking for it, because they are trying to help you achieve even higher

you shouldnt feel like someone is harassing you, or being harsh..
as i said, this is a fantastic comunity and people here are very nice and helpful

once again, sorry about anything i may have said
