And isn't the 3DW a pretty good example that ratings systems are easily abused anyway? There have been numerous complaints on this forum that constructive criticism has been met with blatant downgrading.

Yeah ... one wonders what the use of this thread is. While I objected to Jackson's by now infamous poll some time ago, I must admit that this thread proves the J-man's point.
And if Jackson had made his poll about this thread then the results would be very different.
I reckon that Stu is posting this thread under another name just to try and win the argument though.
But even though this thread sucks, it doesn't mean that all the forum rules need to be changed. It simply needs a mod to have a quiet word that it's just not good enough. And if the thread carries on in the same vein, bin it. We don't need a rule covering everyone when so few people are creating a problem.

I still think that things ought to be left the way they are. However...there is a much broader church here now than the effective 100% professional users that used the old @Last forum; and it seems obvious that some people just dont "get it". Therefore a sticky explaining the netiquette of not hogging the front page might be useful.
If that fails (and I think we are only talking about a small number of people here...so it wouldn't be too onerous to have a mods discussion on individual cases) then a PM ought to be sent to the people concerned, suggesting they show a little more consideration for other users. If that fails, lock the thread so it sinks naturally.
Putting on my straight face for a moment I would like to second Alan's thoughts on this. It seems a reasonable way to stop the gallery becoming:
a spot where anybody can create their very own endless blog.
A gallery equivelent of the 3D Warehouse.
A place where no self-respecting SU practitioner would bother posting. [and I suspect there are plenty of those already]
What about the whingers who lose the debate on gallery bumping and then bump their own whinge thread. Is that going to bring in the self-respecting SU practitioners?
You lost the poll very convincingly. So nearly a month after this thread was last posted on you carry on your whinge again. I suppose you'll try and claim you're being ironic by bumping. I just think you're being moronic.

The right click does not show a "save as" option. It just says "save link as". I haven't tried that because I already have the link.
Doing that doesn't save the link, it saves the program.

The tapermaker plugin will make those legs very simply. You can get it from here: http://www.drawmetal.com/tapermaker

RE: I want Photoshop as editing texture in sketchup

thanks alan. yes solo that was good. im relly thinkin galong that lin ehow to make procedural texture even...but looking directly the effect in Sketchup after editting.
btw im surprise that now photoshop CS4 has also 3d stuff, where you can import 3d objects and project texture unto the object like sketchup.. my hope is CS4 could open SKP file too.. i have nt tried i just only watch video...
CS3 also had 3D features. I think they've extended the 3D features a lot in CS4 though. There is a plugin to import models from the 3DW straight into CS3: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Photoshop_CS3_Extended_Plug-In_for_Google_3D_Warehouse

RE: [Plugin] SketchyFFD (Classic)
Downloaded it again and installed it. It's working for me now.

RE: [Plugin] SketchyFFD (Classic)
FFD isn't appearing for me in SU7.
It's probably my fault for trying to copy the plugins straight from 6 to 7 though.

RE: SU 7, yay or nay?
Edit Textures and Combine Textures have pushed SU7 into a yay for me.
Just hope there's lots of other discoveries to make it even better.

RE: Cool features of SU7
There's also a Combine Textures feature which is excellent.

RE: Cool features of SU7
The editing of texture images with external photo editors is awesome IMO.

You are kidding, right?
There's a list of upgrades that people have requested on this forum that have been completely and utterly ignored by Google. You think they are going to rush the release of SU7 because of this thread while completely ignoring what they want?
-
RE: SU 7, yay or nay?
I cannot vote yet. So far my experience has been pretty positive, I like the editing textures and hope it works well and the whole feel is pretty good, but I really need to load all the plugins and see how it works fully loaded.
Do I think it's anywhere near where it should have been though? Absolutely no way. I'm another one who thinks this is a good point release, but a shockingly poor new version upgrade.

RE: Google Sketchup Pro 7 is out
I made a wish on this forum for texture editing with an outside photo editer, so I'm very pleased that SU7 has that function.

If it is then it's frightening that they are still charging $500 for the Pro version and it's even more frightening that Google would allow it to be released in such a shoddy manner.
$500 seems pretty reasonable to me.
Id be interested if you could come up with any other packages that can compete at a similar price.
It's not a comparison between Sketchup Pro and other packages, it's a comparison between Pro and the free version.
I's seriously doubt the thinking of anyone who bought the Pro version. Even if it was on a company account, surely most people are honest enough not to waste their companies money?

RE: Google Sketchup Pro 7 is out
Just a thought, but what a waste of paper the NDA's have been. What's the point in making Non-Disclosure Agreements when there's nothing to disclose anyway?
I'm just hoping that this isn't the real SU7. If it is then it's frightening that they are still charging $500 for the Pro version and it's even more frightening that Google would allow it to be released in such a shoddy manner.
