    • Neat way to join curved faces imported from CAD

Often while importing curved geometry from CAD, sketchup breaks apart the curved lines which results in ugly looking broken extrudes. What is the best way to fix this issue so that we can have clean edged faces?

I used the weld plugin but have to weld each closed loop separately. I cannot apply weld command to all of the faces. Moreover, it smoothens off the corners also as seen in the screenshot.

Beautiful combination! I feel that the neatness in erasing the lines will be difficult to achieve in photoshop. That's because lines are also getting overlapped. Unlike illustrator, we cannot select lines on the basis of lineweights in photoshop.

I can't see that you are doing anything wrong. I think despite the range being 1 to 20 pixels wide, the real limit is 10. I'm not sure that would be a big deal for most people.

That's unusual. I wonder why the developers added the fake 10 scales of increasing the lineweights. ๐Ÿ˜•

      @dave r said:

If you want especially heavy profile edges, you could combine a smaller profiles-only export with a larger export without heavy profiles.

That would take some skillful decision making with respect to diagonally scaling and overlapping two differently sized jpeg exports. ๐Ÿ˜›

    • Missing difference in lineweights in jpeg exports

I was experimenting with the profile thickness in the styles dialogue box. Keeping the same resolution of the jpeg output, an output exported with 9 as width and 18 as width does not show difference in the final output. Is there anything that I am doing wrong?
I am exporting at a resolution of 4000x2118 pixels.

    • Automatic rapid fire screenshots of website

There's an architect's website I absolutely adore. However it doesn't allow jpeg saving. I wanna take screenshots of the following links in full screen mode on Google Chrome. Any way to get this all automated and get all jpegs instantly? That is, the screenshots get taken like a machine gun da,da,da,da,da...?

I've so far listed the following projects. Still a lot more to go...

Deleted the faces in the shadow outlines and it worked for me.

      That's a cool maneuver!

Please provide some links of pages that will enlighten me more about this basic common sense on geometry conflict. I've been using SketchUp for more than 8 years and still sometimes feel a newbie.

I'm aware of Z-fighting of faces.

You have overlapping faces which is the cause of the missing lines. (Z-fighting)

Also, you have geometry on layers other than zero, this will always cause problems in SU. (always has)
Better to keep all geometry on layer zero and put groups/components on layers other than zero to control visibility or in this case color by layer.

Dave Beat me to it....... ๐Ÿ‘

I always thought that keeping everything on different layer is an organized way! I mean a rectangle group with its geometry on layer "green rectangle" and also the group within the same layer. I was living in a lie! Whoa! I will follow this golden rule that you've given me! Thanks a lot!

    • Missing lines in pdf

I am trying to export model as pdf with colour by layer option. I am getting missing lines in pdf. I tried turning on and off the hardware acceleration but failed to get the appropriate result.

I tried again in 2017 version and was disappointed again.

What must I do to get the lines in the pdf?

This is the jpeg export of the result that I want.

I dont think there is any 3D software that can do this. A long time ago there was a Adobe program called Dimensions that was 3D and vector. Mostly for logos and simpler stuff.
You could perhaps export the shadows separately from SketchUp and vectorize them with trace image in Illustrator or similar.

Yeah! That's exactly currently my workflow. Export the shadows in Illustrator then modifying to give a gradient effect.

I guess he's updating, but all the books I have by him mostly feature hand drawing. Why do you mention "vector" shadows? Not sure what that means.

Vector shades and shadows means that they will not get pixelated at all no matter what. Yeah! He has updated a lot of things. He's included the mention of renderings and computer graphics as well. ๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿ˜„

Iโ€™m quite passionate about vector graphics in architecture. I have an eBook of Architectural Graphics by Francis DK Ching, 6th Edition. He has used vector shadows and gradients!
I was blown away when I saw the graphics.
I am just curious what software did he use to create such shadows?
Manually applying gradient in Illustrator would be a cumbersome procedure.
Any way to directly export vector shadows from any particular software?

For a studio environment you can use an HDRI with a studio image. There is also the vray express installer which has studio environments for Sketchup. It gives you components with standard light setups and studiomodels. You can find it in the download section on the chaosgroup website (you have to log in). For some free HDRIs you can google. I have found this one.. http://zbyg.deviantart.com/art/HDRi-Pack-2-103458406 Maybe there's something for you in it.

    • Open GL troubles and AMD Crimson

I have AMD Radeon 8570 graphics card in my laptop. I am really annoyed with it since I realized that NVIDIA is the ONLY choice for architects.

I realized this fact last year I suppose.

Now, I don't wanna shell out money to get a new motherboard or a graphic card.

I keep my AMD crimson drivers updated.

I have this report generated from SketchUp 2017 for my graphic card.

When I should be worried? How must I know that I will not run into a paticular problem?

No. Should I make a white plain blank rectangle sheet and save it as HDRI?
