SKETCHUP LOCK,
I know you can lock groups and components in SU, but is it possible to lock the whole file so it can only be viewed with certain toolbars remaining operationable? This has been covered before but on the Google site, and the answer was that Google didnt want to do this(I think)as it when against Googles policy to have all models freely distributed..blah blah..blah...
However when dealing with the bureaucrats (when seeking approval to obtain permission to build)sometimes passing on a SU file can be very dangerous, as it is so very easy to modilfy the location of the building/s etc, which can often effect shading lines on adjacent properties etc..and in turn effect the outcome of the job.
IF this is possible some toolbars could remain open to adjust ie the Views, Shadows, Camera, Section, Walk, and tapemeasure toolbars could all remain functionable?
OR/ Is there a free program which can views SU files (other than the SU viewer) and also retains shadow information etc.
There is Hypercosm, but dont you need to have SU pro to view anyway, which defeats the purpose? I havent looked into this so maybe someone its possible.
SHADOW INTERSECT
Same idea as the "Surface Operations" ruby tool "draw line on surface" and similar function as "Intersect line with model", but this works with a cast shadow on surface.
This would be good as it would allow in the Layout mode us to draw a more visable and highlighted line directly over the line cast by the shadows (which sometimes arent always that visable. It would also help when doing shading diagrams and allow us to compare extg bldg shadow lines with new building shadow lines.
We would then have a more visable line to trace once transfered to Layout.
There may also be other uses of this function. Can this be done??
Cheers Jeff
Does anyone know if a SketchUp "LOCK" ruby exists, or whether one can be made? The idea being to disable a SU drawing so it can not be modified.
Alternatively, is there a SU veiwer that can veiw SketchUp models, retain and enable adjustment of shadow settings, and also the annimation settings.
This would be very helpful when submitting shading diagrams for approval to other parties.
Your thoughts would be appreciated..thanks
remove the thread. after all there arent any answers here relating to the question posted. saves people going through all pages in the glimmer of hope that they might actually get one..hahaha.
PS just posted a new Google group check it out at http://groups.google.com/group/sketchup-pro-jobs
I know, but it needs work as the shadows dont work to in the PDF. Is there a solution to this?
Tape measure tool please.
If we insert models from our scap book eg cars or others that we make how can we measure them to ensure they are the correct scale. The cars models are only in feet and inches, no good for those in metric!
I know you can draw a line to scale but a tape measure tool would be handy thanks

Fantastic....this will be an excellant plugin when ready.
Baked Beans
Once upon a time, there lived a man who had a terrible passion for baked beans. He loved them, but they always had an embarrassing and somewhat lively reaction on him. One day he met a girl and fell in love.
When it was apparent that they would marry, he thought to himself, "She'll never go through with the marriage with me carrying on like this" so he made the supreme sacrifice and gave up beans. Shortly after that they were married.
A few months later, on the way home from work, his car broke down and since they lived in the country, he phoned his wife and told her that he would be late because he had to walk. On his way home, he passed a small cafe and the wonderful aroma of baked beans overwhelmed him.
Since he still had several miles to walk he thought he would walk off any ill effects before he got home. So he went in and ordered three extra large helpings of beans. All the way home he farted. By the time he arrived home he felt reasonably safe.
His wife met him at the door and seemed somewhat excited. She exclaimed, "Darling, I have the most wonderful surprise for you for dinner tonight!" She put a blindfold on him and led him to his chair at the head of the table and made him promise not to peek. At this point he was beginning to feel another fart coming on. Just as his wife was about to remove the blindfold, the phone rang. She again made him promise not to peek until she returned and went to answer the phone.
While she was gone, he seized the opportunity. He shifted his weigh to one leg and let go. It was not only loud, but ripe as a rotten egg. He had a hard time breathing, so he felt for his napkin and fanned the air about him. He had just started to feel better when another urge came on.
He raised his leg and rriiipppp! It sounded like a diesel engine revving and smelled worse. To keep himself from gagging, he tried fanning his arms a while, hoping the smell would dissipate. Things had just about returned to normal when he felt another urge coming. He shifted his weight to his other leg and let go. This was a real blue ribbon winner; the windows shook, the dishes on the table rattled and a minute later the flowers on the table were dead. While keeping an ear tuned in on the conversation in the hallway, and keeping his promise of staying blindfolded, he carried on like this for the next 10 minutes, farting and then fanning each time with his napkin.
When he heard the phone farewells (indicating the end of his loneliness and freedom) he neatly laid his napkin on his lap and folded his hands on top of it. Smiling contentedly, he was the picture of innocence when his wife walked in. Apologising for taking so long, she asked if he had peeked at the dinner table. After assuring her he had not peeked, she removed the blindfold and yelled "SURPRISE!"
To his shock and horror, there were twelve dinner guests seated around the table.
You know, I dont know why its such a big SECRET. @lastsoftware disclosed upgrade dates and what was in the upgrade, and so do other CAD software products.
The disadvantage of Google not doing this is obvious...We simply look elsewhere for other packages that do what we want them to do when we need them to it. I think there are a lot of programs around now all copying the SU push pull modeling and Google should be careful that they dont upset to many people.
I'm upset! Not even the distributers of SU know when its coming. How can people plan for the future, if they dont know what SU next "great" features will be.
Add your thoughts..
I second that...very important feature!
Yes another Kiwi here form WELLINGTON...
I use SUPro6, happy to send you a model which you can down load if you give me the co ordinates you want , then just save as template...I use the shadowing a bit now for Res Consent applications.

SU Export to pdf 3D
Adobe released their Adobe Acrobat 3D, just wondering if an export to this is possible could be considered in SU Pro7 release, so that people with adobe reader can view SU 3D models?
