Well, here's an image to make things clearer.

      Redrawing city map.png

I have a map of a city, imported from Autocad with homes drawn on it. For the scale the .dwg is normally printed at it doesn't matter if a corner is not exactly 90o [this is my replacement for a degrees symbol btw πŸ˜„ ]. So, in Sketchup I create a group on top of this map, use TIG's plugin from 2D tools to create a rectangle and then fill it, or divide it, with your tool. Using this method I take one edge of the rectangle and recreate this inside the rectangle. The only problem, as mentioned before, is that if the new line is getting close to an old line, there is a change you can click a line that is not 90o with the rest of the rectangle. This would later in my process prevent me from easily drawing roofs on these houses.

So the question was, is there a way for you plugin to look only inside the group/component when selecting the first line you want to recreate inside a shape?

Hope this clears things up πŸ˜„

Oh well, it wasn't related to the question.

Hey Thomas, thanks for this plugin [it is saving me a heap of time redrawing a city map πŸ˜„ ]

I do have one question though, is there a way for the plugin to ignore lines outside the component or group when splitting faces in two? At the moment I'm redrawing a map to have nice 90o corners [which makes pulling up to 3d a hell of a lot easier πŸ˜„] And while it usually is very clear which line is which, when an original line comes close to the 90o that I want it is harder to see which line you're continuing.

There is no need for that, I was just expressing my worries about it looking too much like promotion. But since it isn't, all is good πŸ˜‰

Forgot to mention it the first time, but the model looks pretty good πŸ‘

Why all this promoting of SDS2? Don't get me wrong, it looks amazing, but you guys delete posts regarding other software when it is too biased. Over the last week there have been several of these posts, all in dire need of their own topic for some reason.

I think you as moderators should watch out for this behavior [as you have before, with other posts] and maybe keep the SDS2 posts all in one topic.

    • RE: Re: Some Funny Pics.

Don't really get that last image. Doesn't it mean that if you're the worst in doing something bad, that you're actually the best at not doing that particular thing?

Being the worst at drunk driving can mean:

      • Highest number of drunk drivers
      • Lowest number of drunk drivers
      • Average number of drunk drivers, but they just can't handle the car as well as the other states while being drunk.

      I'm confused... πŸ˜•

But not as confused as to what this smiley represents: 😎

Is he evil, or does he wear sunglasses?

This isn't exactly native output of Sketchup only, but it's build of 3 different images put together in Photoshop

    • RE: File size after DWG import

You should also know that importing a *.DWG in Sketchup will result in all your arc's and circle's being converted to individual lines, thus increasing the size.

...my only suggestion would be to shrink the overall size of the site to fit monitors running 1024x768. the majority of users will be able to see it that way.

Or you could put people viewing sites on a 1024x768 monitor in the same category as people that [still] use IE6 and just ignore them! πŸ˜„
Yes, some people cannot see your site [properly], but it makes building a site fun again πŸ˜‰

You could change the .png's to medium quality jpg's though, the visual change is barely noticeable, but your server will like it more πŸ˜›

    • RE: Dual Monitors w/ Different Resolutions?

      Hey Dave,

There's no real need of a second GPU just because you want two resolutions, Windows XP supports different resolutions. There is a snatch however. Since your resolutions are pretty high you'll need a decent GPU to run both screens. To adjust the resolutions, right click the desktop, select 'properties'; select the 'settings' tab and set the primary [your desktop] and the secondary [you Wacom Cintiq 21UX... *looks kinda sad at his Wacom tablet 😞 πŸ˜‰ ] to the preferred screen resolution and voila! http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/hwandprograms/monitors.mspx

PS. If your GPU might have some trouble with the two resolutions at once, you can switch screens on and off with [windows key] + p. This switches between only primary; only secondary; extending between the two desktops; duplicating. The only secondary option could give some better performance options when your GPU is having a hard time πŸ˜„

PPS. There is also some handy software if you plan to switch often between a single desktop screen and a combo. Ultramon http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/ can save the settings you make per option, allowing to switch between them with a single keyboard command.

      Enjoy your new 'toy' πŸ˜›

    • RE: Lumion - Test drive

Well no there is no straight SKP import but it can be done via the collada export in sketchup. I'm going to try other exports tomorrow to see if there are any that keep the cutout components intact.

      Nice movie Solo πŸ‘

Small point: the reflection in the windows of the trees looks 'funky'

Have been trying it out myself and so far I'm very pleased. Very easy program with good help options [got a bit stuck with applying the materials πŸ˜„ ] and the mouse-WASD combo works very well for me since I've played a game or two πŸ˜‰ [I do understand that the 'older' part of the community might need a bit of time adjusting to it πŸ˜† ]

Tried importing a skp, which went really well. Only negative thing that I can think of right now is that the SKP > DAE conversion seems to ignore cut out components [on the left of the pictures, the windows]:

Why 3d when you can have 2d trees :P

ps. also can't seem to find the scale option, but I don't see this as a problem. Since everything inside the software is at good scale and the files I use are also.

    • 2D Face-me Tree

      Hi all,

I'm trying to create a 2D Face-me tree [hence the title ^^] But I don't get it to work.
The tree doesn't pivot around the bottom center and the shadow it displays is a rectangle.

Could someone help me with a quick how-to?

In case you were wondering, 'boom' is the Dutch word for tree
