Couple things to check.

Make sure nothing is selected or else Artisan will use it as a 'mask' and your tools will only affect the selected edges / faces. Make sure you are not trying to use the Artisan tools on a group or component. First double-click to edit the group so you can select individual faces. Then the tools should work.

If you're terrain is actually 'locked' (red when selected), right click and select unlock. But this is a SketchUp feature, not related to Artisan

What format are you using to transfer the model? As cutting edge says - importing SKP format should make the vertices welded. If you use another format it might be that the vertices aren't welded properly.

in the upcoming beta, you will have the ability to just right click on the light group and convert it to a component. So that will make this a little easier to do in the future. A light list would be helpful though, I can understand that request.

TIG's Extrude Tools http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25362 might work if you dont want to pay for Artisan.

Would the lighting be more of a Vray setting to cast darker shadows? Or would I need to do this in photoshop?
