      tig,
      one of your fantastic plugins also includes a folder named TIGtools (extrude..byLathe). won't there be some confusion between the two? if i just replace the previous one all the pngs and other plugin-specific files will go away, will they not?

      please advise us on what to do.

      theres an explanation from TIG over at EEbyRailv2.2, you need to combine all 4 TIGtool folder if you want all 4, there a screenshot from my Mac

      see if you have the same problem and report back to TIG

      Either the Mac has a different way of making 'empty' toolbars and adds a blank button from #extrusionToolbar.rb even before the others get made - which explains why it's first in the list, or something else is adrift...

      Other users' feedback is needed... There are hundreds of you :enlight:

      #extrusionToolbar.rb only gave one(1)tool image with EEbyR_V2.1 so this is only sinceV2.2 and the other updated EEtools

      and YEAH- where are the other Mac users.....

      I have a shortcut folder shown in the earlier image, but it is an alias for this path

      looking at script changes , I wondered if this may be a problem for mac's it's not how you use to do it?

      cmd=UI::Command.new(textstring){extrudeEdgesByRails()}
      UI.menu("Plugins").add_item(textstring){cmd}
      cmd.status_bar_text=textstring+instructions
      if $extrusionToolbar
        cmd.tooltip=textstring
        cmd.small_icon="TIGtools/extrudeEdgesByRails16x16.png"
        cmd.large_icon="TIGtools/extrudeEdgesByRails24x24.png"

      I suspect you have two copies of something around somewhere... Are all your plugins in the a same folder ??

      No tooltip message, but it does toggle grey [on/off], effects nothing

      No duplicates, even took out lath.rb, just in case

      All my plugins are in same folder

      Sorry for the confusion...

      no apology needed, most people don't read the rubies, and I just thought it was maybe yet another super-duper 'secret' tool that I'd missed and that it was maybe why I get a blank tool button.like this
      However, now knowing that it's not and still not having the ability to use any of the EE tools from the plugin menu, I've been trying a few things to get that functionality back and I can't.

      Basically
      1: I have a 'spare' Button that does nothing if there is any single EE tool installed (so, I'll get 2,3 or 4 buttons, never one)
      2: Plugin Menu function does not work with one or all EE tools installed (they are there) with or without #extrusionToolbar.rb.

      I don't think it's a 'Mac' thing, your scripts never give me those sort of issues, and it's not an install issue either, although Mac's do Copy/Paste + Drag/Drop differently to PC's, I know that and have a fairly bullet proof procedure I use all the time.

      shareware, so not strictly free time delayed start to the session before you pay

      you need to put it in your library, and put colour picker in the menu bar in SU to get to it, but other than that it just works great with loads of additional choices

      hi TIG,

      thanks again,

      EEbyR and EEbyV don't work out of the plugins menu, but do from toolbar buttons

      EEbyR's toobar image is blank once EEbyV is loaded, but both work

      EEbyV looks really useful, but what is 'extrude by sweep' mentioned in the ruby text?

      john
      EDIT just combined the the 3 Tig folder's and I have all three working icon/buttons, but still no functionality from plugin folder, so can I just comment them out of there.

      is there a keyboard shortcut to open up the activity monitor? and does it start even if all other programs are frozen? that would be perfect

      not since the invention of wireless keyboards for the iMac, but on my MacBookPro if you toggle caption-lock and the light works, your normally still in business,
      if it does [cmd]+[s] usually will save a SU file (even if it's not responding), then clicking on the MenuBar apple/then ForceQuit/SU will 9/10 get you back on track.

      frozen programs more often only lock themselves, unless your playing with alfa, beta or early release software and some unfriendly SU rubies.

      iStatMenus has drop-down menu shortcuts to terminal and console and itself, but most the things you want to keep an eye on are always at the top of the screen and clicking those gives you loads more info.

      BTW- Apple don't call them laptops because they can get far to hot, especially the 17" ones. mine lives on a sheet of corrugated ali, and is always on and plugged in when I'm not out and about. MiniBatteryLogger is also worth a look

    • RE: [Plugin] Shape Bender Beta

      Hi Chris,
      great tool, again...

      I'm working on a font stringer idea for 3D stainless steel printing and this does 90% of the basic component build beautifully, but as I need to now do this to a full character set, I'm was wondering if a few features could be added.
      the concept

      and this is just 'CopyRotate' version, but I have also done some test's with 'ComponentStringer' following more complex curves.

      the '%' are component (place holders)

      one of the steps that may be improved is after the second bend, of the 'letter' component, both ends need to be rotated back to the arc centre, I can't think of an easy way to do this and was thinking that being able to choose the arc centre as part of the parameters would be useful, or better still if "FindArcCentrePoint" could be utilized to find it's own on a multi-arc line.
      another is stipulating which is start and end on both lines (it changes from character to character even though I'm using locked templates and Copy-PastseInPlace' to generate them)

      To be honest I'm really just throwing some quick early ideas out there for any comments

      john
      EDIT
      with 'A' character replacement (not fully tweaked)

    • RE: Space frame ? [TUTORIAL]

      hi Jacob,
      not sure if you looked at my first skp, it was primarily about the tubing rubies, and has some quad facades.

      however, simply using PushPull, Move and Rotate can give accurate positioning, really the only 'trick' is to leave the faces on so you can use the standard tools.

      I suppose the other useful 'trick' once off the ground is temporally grouping a face so you can use the rotate functions of the bounding box, although I more often make a multi-angle facetted group that I can move to any given point and rotate the face off that.

      using x-ray or wire frame mode is also handy before deleting faces.

      grouping sections as you go and using Copy/Paste in Place to carry-on locks that geometry in place, avoiding total disaster.

      main thing is to have fun

      Is this your first upgrade to 7.1? 7.1 had some great speed improvements for sure.

      no, just the single step up, I gave it a short workout on a 'replaceable 3Dtext on tubular spirals' idea I'm working on using BezRndCorner/ShapeBender/CompStringer and that was faster. Also another quick test to see if it had 'fixed' an issue I have with Kirill's (StickStuff) was the same as before, so it not a miracle worker.

      However, I haven't had this console message yet- it's been there since before 7 and is always involved in crashes, so fingers crossed.

      it doesn't work well...why??? on OSX 10.5.8 SU version 6

      Easiest way to get that to happen is to click out of sequence. or by re-using the same profiles, there's lots of tips to avoid that in previous posts, any by me were done on 10.5.8 with SU7 (may make a difference, but I haven't seen any reports on that front)

      keep trying, it's well worth it.

      QT Pro is well worth getting for full screen playback of almost anything, even if you don't use it with SU.

      Also just did this test, took 4 mins to export this file out of SU, it's un-rendered ( or more correctly it's only SU rendered)

      I've been having a play with LightUp (which exports AVI's), but my trial has runout before I managed to try an animated sequence, but it's worth a look before spending big bucks.

      Could you start a new thread with exactly what your trying to achieve, and maybe a sample file, as I'm sure there are SU/Mac users who have found a solution or combo.

      I've been working on animations of engineering product designs (as a secondary goal, to 3D printable SU drawings), but have tried out quite a lot of things in the process that may suit your needs if not mine.

      Outside of SU, I like bits of SharkFX, SolidThinking and the RhinoWanacheeBeta, but there not SU which overall I prefer.

      Does anyone have any ideas on how to get SU to export at the highest resolution?[/quote]
      like this,expert options on free SU
      Custom gives you current view size, that you can edit, Expert give loads of compression type including none, so this image is just where you find them, not a recommendation per-say.

      my comment re-SJ-QT plugin was for the PC crowd, as this is it on a Mac, but I'm not aware of it being available in SU on PC's, sorry I wasn't clearer.

      However if google have it for Mac does SU Pro PC have it, or can the offer it as a plug?

      Chris- Bit lost by your wording, did you find it? if so do you have all these options?

      Hi,
      maybe this is solved.

      Quicktime uses plugins for lots of things that need to be installed and then turned on, if you open the player, then use open file it tells you if you need anything (but not exactly what),

      I need a plug for .wmv on a mac, but I don't think you do on a PC, you can then use share [export] to get all the output options.

      It is possible to make a SU Quicktime plugin, if anyones keen

      (here's a link to some including autodesk) http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html
