RE: Studio Home Exterior - It's been a while
Beautiful design and rendering. I agree with Jason and Mike, the rendering with the B&W landscape has more punch to it.

RE: Bill Nye vs Ken Ham
According to a report on Huffington Post, the Nye-Ham debate has spurred enough interest for Ham to raise money to proceed with his Noah's Ark creation.

RE: Earth tones house finished
Looks great, Serrot. I think (IMHO) it would be better if the stucco (smooth) material wasn't the same hue as the stone. Maybe a bit darker. So the two materials are better differentiated. Also, I think your plans would read better if endpoints were turned off on your style settings.

RE: Heavyweight Locomotive Design
You're missing a screw! Other than that obvious omission, fantastic modeling!

RE: Iolani Palace WIP
Thanks, Hepf. I've got about a dozen models on my WIP list, and a dozen more on my "next" list. But, that building would make for a fantastic model. Do you know if any architectural drawings are available?

RE: StoneCad SU Resources
Kris, is there a particular StoneCAD texture image you are looking for? I have the program and most of the images on my old computer.
As I recall, because the size of the images was relatively small, although the images tiled seamlessly their repeating patterns were annoyingly obvious. I found very few that were useful.

RE: Bill Nye vs Ken Ham
Mike, I for one am glad it is not happening. My understanding was that they had planned on using live animals (could they really acquire two of every animal?). I don't have anything against properly designed and run zoos (I did one as my thesis project in architecture school), but to fit so many animals in their "ark" would require rather small pens, and that wouldn't be right. Plus, I have to admit I am biased against their "museum." Passing off creationism as science is just wrong, and unfortunately there are a lot of people gullible enough to belief their pseudo-science speak. Everyone has a right to believe what they want, but they misrepresent facts.

I'm not sure that anyone should take this debate too personally. As I can recall after watching it, it looks kinda "staged" meaning that they prepared this talk-show to be spectacular, knowing what will happen in the end. And mostly Mr. Ken Ham knew that his arguments will be invalid in the end, but still agreed to "play" this, for the amusement of the audience, let's say.
Just look at each other presentations at the beginning which contained references to the opponent's speech.
So, at least partly, this was a little staged. I won't argue here the things told in the debate (unless your name is Ken Ham, one simply CAN'T argue that
), but I will say this was a show for masses. And it had its audience. I enjoyed it.
Just don't shred your passports
))I'm sure it was staged. Attendance at Mr. Ham's creation "museum" has been dwindling over the last four years, and it is in financial trouble. They've had to nix the Noah's "Ark Park" they had planned on adding. He needed something to try to foster interest in it again.

RE: Crap 'Artists Impressions' ...
That's actually not bad compared to some work I've seen put out by some architects' offices. I've come across quite a few sketchuppers who don't put much effort in their work.
In their defense, the "artists" may not have had any idea their work was going to be published. Years ago I made a model for a large project in our office. Did my best in the time allotted and the information given. A few months later the client had the renderings plastered on three billboards around town! If I'd known that would have happened, I would have put more time in fine tuning it.

RE: Virtual restoration. Workflow (wip)
Looks like it's ready to move from the WIP to the regular gallery.

RE: HOME THEATER
Nice design. The television looks small for the theatre, and the rug in front of it looks too thin (as in paper thin)

RE: Opening Ceremonies
I thought they were very nice. I think all the Olympic opening ceremonies within recent memory have been very nice. The torch lighting was done well (each host always tries to do something unique). I did notice, though, that this was the first one I recall where the Olympic flag was not accompanied by an honor guard when raised.
