RE: Fire Hall Poster
Thanks for the kind words.
Tim, I'm not so sure it is a lack of good masons, but rather a lack of good designers who can design with masonry. That, and budget restraints - a steel lintel is much cheaper than a brick arch (and today's engineers would insist on adding a curved steel lintel to that arch!). -
RE: 20 X 20 FLOOR PLAN
Nice design. Although I understand your reasoning behind the design, I'm not sure it is practical in the bathroom. You've separated it sound-wise from the kitchen with that glass wall and the house is designed for one or two people, there's always the likelihood they will entertain and guests will use that bathroom. I think most people will find it uncomfortable to use a bathroom so open. Also, I wonder if someone standing outside can look through the kitchen window and up into the bathroom.
Mike, I don't understand your question about egress. Each floor has a standard L-shaped stair. Given the occupancy and size of the building, this is adequate. The only thing that isn't clear is if the bedroom has an egress window.

RE: Facade - NPR
Looks great, Eric. How would you flash those curtain walls where they extend above the roof?

Cool!

Someones has made Versailles with Sketchup!

Yes, I've seen that and more at http://www.versailles3d.com
I think it was actually posted on the Forum by the modelers after they completed it.
It must be nice to have a whole crew and funds to scan the entire building. -
RE: Detached house project
Looking great. That top step, in front of the door, should be deeper; it should be considered a landing, not a step.

RE: Petite Trianon WIP
Thanks, Lee. So far I've been very pleased with how this has turned out.

RE: Fire Hall Poster
Thanks guys.
Carloh, I'm working on a a couple of my own designs that I plan on rendering in LumenRT. I've amassed quite a few models of historic downtown buildings (such as this one); maybe one day I'll join 'em all together and render Danielville

RE: Fire Hall Poster
Thanks, John. I don't plan on modeling the inside (at this time). The only reference material I have are the historic photos of the front and the one side.

RE: VİLLA
Someone needs to mow that lawn! The neighbors are starting to complain.
I agree with Carloh, the paving expanse in the foreground is not doing your image any justice. It doesn't help that the pattern creates a series of converging lines that attract attention. You might try weathering it, if possible, so it isn't so uniform. Also, the car is competing with the house for attention. You might try shifting the camera position, from the left so your looking across the grass, then the pavement, towards the house.

RE: A Modern Kitchen
If that were my kitchen, and I actually used it, it would look like that for 5 minutes...maybe.
Nice, minimalist design. It looks like one of the controls (rectangular piece) is floating above the surface.

RE: Fire Hall Poster
Thanks.
pbacot, this will probably just go on my walls at work and at home. Maybe print a few for some preservationist friends.

RE: Petite Trianon WIP
Thanks.
Ben, the pilaster are on the north and south elevations only. The west elevation has full Corinthian columns, which I haven't modeled yet. The east elevation is relatively plain, without pilasters or columns.

Fire Hall Poster
Long-gone historic fire hall in Knoxville, TN, modeled from HABS photographs. It was torn down in 1977 in the name of progress (a highway ramp); a few months later they found out it was eligible for listing on the National Register. My goal was to create a 13x19 poster. The vintage fire truck is from the 3D Warehouse; the fireman from FormFonts.

Guardhouse and entrance gates - this opens up on the entrance court on the south side of the building.

Petite Trianon WIP
Took a break from the Iolani Palace to work on something easier. Interesting conundrum with this model - it was created with SU8. I opened it in SU2013 (by default) to save images, but I couldn't turn the shadows on. But when I reopened it in SU8, no problems.
East elevation

North side - need to add Corinthian capitals to the pilasters

West elevation - this side is what is usually shown in photos. Need to add fluted Corinthian columns in the center.

Close up of the south side.
