Great renderings, Timothy, but more importantly, beautiful designs.

RE: Sketchup Model/Vue Render
Looks great. The only thing that needs improving, IMHO, is your gray paving material (asphalt?) - it's too monolithic and clean looking. Needs some weathering and age.

Would one say this iarchitecture was "looking back", even for 1893? One thing, given the wealthy Owner and the usual British approach to these estates, it appears to demonstrate great restraint.
Although it predates Edward VII's reign by 7 years, it looks like an example of Edwardian architecture. This was probably one of many houses, hence the "modest" size for an English Lord and shipping magnate.

RE: Tunstall Court
It's frickin awesome, John!
Do you know which parts are historic, and which parts are later-day addition? That flat-roofed second story piece on the right looks like it was an addition; it lacks the detailing of the rest of the house.

RE: Modern Bedroom: "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"
Very nice, Twan. Beautiful wood texture(s).

RE: Best Rendering Software
You might try Vue by eon software. Besides the full version (Vue Infinite), they offer two architectural bundles at lower prices.

RE: Iolani Palace WIP
Thanks, Jo-ke, arnau, and Richard. Hopefully I will find the time and inspiration to work on this again soon. Not too much left to finish it.

Or maybe they don't have any neighbours to worry about!

Not the examples I've seen. It could also be the case of "okay, the cameras are gone; lets get out or ruffly curtains and all the other tacky stuff we like."
It's kinda like those apartments and homes you see in the architectural magazines where the stairs have no railings, and you wonder "how the f___ did that get passed? Don't they have any building codes in New York City?" and one can only assume the photo was taken before the building inspector made them install a rail. -
RE: Garden tub in master bath suite
Very nice, mrdcon.
Every time I see a huge picture window in front of a bath tub, without any blinds or such, I can't help but think...the occupants must be exhibitionists. -
RE: Pouf, footstool or ottoman?
All three words are synonymous. In the U.S. I think most would use the term ottoman.
Great modeling; I tried modeling a sofa once - looked like it was carved from stone.

RE: SketchUp and Maxwell Render
Thanks for the response. I thought that was Arroway. They have some great stuff. I bought all three wood volumes separately, and they sent a nice slip case to hold them all, plus a book with information on all the textures.

RE: SketchUp and Maxwell Render
There's a new master in da house!

That's a very nice wood texture on the headboard. Where did you find it?

RE: 250,000+ SCF Membership
Well, it appears y'all will let just anyone join. All this time I thought I was special.

Just kidding....Congratulations and thanks to team Sketchucation, and all the great contributors, for creating and maintaining a great website.

RE: Best Rendering Software
A lot of software companies offer a free trial personal learning edition. You might consider taking some for a test drive before buying the car. Which software is best is subjective to the user...and the size of your wallet.

RE: My first post- house rendering
Overall, nice rendering. A few points (IMHO):
- The people appear to have a white halo around them, and comparing them to the materials and the car, they look out of scale (too small).
- The gray wall in the background looks flat, devoid of any texture - doesn't look realistic.
- You have some light rays projecting from some of the top corners - why? It seems out of place in what looks like an otherwise photorealistic approach. If your going for a more mannerist style that emphasizes the form, you should use that approach on the whole form you want to emphasize.
- Water seems a bit too agitated for a swimming pool.

RE: Cutting Holes
Hello Garystan. When you say it won't cut an opening, do you mean that it won't cut an opening period, or that it is cutting an opening in only one face of the wall? SU components are limited in that they can cut an opening in only one surface. But there is a work-around. Can you post your SU model/window component.

RE: New Render
Regarding the wood texture on the table and chairs, I don't know if it is just a poor texture or if it is just scaled too large. And, if you're going to have a wooden element close enough to see the grain, you need to pay attention to the direction of the grain. In that image it is running all over the place, where it should be horizontal it is vertical.
