CWM, I know what you mean. I run into this once in awhile with things like knobs and other rounded parts. Unfortunately what TECHDAVE suggests is not a good solution when it comes to LayOut because using a style setting in SU affects the whole scene. I have a couple of different solutions that I've used. They both work well for me. I'll make up some examples for you.
I would appreciate that DaveR
Does anyone have a good resource for SU 3D components that render well in LO (IE: tubs, toilets, sinks, etc.)? I find that there are many 3D components that look great (in 3D) but do not render well in LO.
For example, a toilet that looks good in 3D may not show up well in a wall elevation (for construction drawing because it has so many curves. Same issue with tubs, sink, etc.
Any ideas?
Okay, the plugin works VERY well. Just one question though - How do I set a custom line style? I have tried the dashed lines and when I set the line width to .05 (which is the same line weight of the SU default line) the dashes get so small they appear to be one "thin" line. I need to make a custom dashed line with dashes that are about 4" long with 4" spaces (@ 1/4" scale). Any help would be appreciated.

If you are using the Sketchucation Plugin Store, just set the Author field to TIG and find it in the list there. Click on AutoInstall.
It won't show up in the Plugins menu. It shows up in Draw. And there is a toolbar you can display under the View>Toolbars menu. You may need to shut SketchUp down and restart it after installing it.
Thanks Dave R!
I just found it and I feel thoroughly like an idiot now.
Thanks so much for you assistance!

Did you try Install Extension from Window>Preferences>Extensions? Click that button and navigate to where you saved the RBZ file. Select it and choose 'Open".
Why don't you install the Sketchucation Plugin Store tool and use it for auto-installing plugins from now on?
I just tried it again and it tells me that the file extension has been installed successfully and is now available for use. I cannot find it anywhere one the screen and when I look into the Window>Preferences>Extension Folder it is not listed at all.
I tried both of those methods. I just tried to install it using the SketUcation Store Plugin and it seems to work fine until I try to locate it. It's not in my Plugins folder or my Tools pallet.
I have tried to install this RBZ file several times and cannot seem to find it anywhere (once it has been installed). Am I doing something wrong here? I download the file and then install it into my plugins folder - then I restart SU and it's not there. I have also tried to install it directly from the Extension Warehouse but, cannot locate or there. I am very excited about the Dashed Lines aspect of the plugin but, cannot get it to install. FYI: I use SU 8

Are your two machines on the same network ?
If they are not, then you'll need to copy the 'scrapbook' files from one computer to the other...
Use a memory-stick/DVD/DropBox/email-to-yourself/etc...
Thanks TIG. They were not using the same network when I created them. I was at home and my work computer was at - well - work. Are you saying that if I were to create a scrapbook file on my laptop (while using the same network) it would effect both computers? I'll have to remember that the next time and bring my laptop in.
Last night, I created a lot of new scrapbooks on my laptop (@ home)and I was hoping that they would "automatically" upload to my PC at my day office. Well, they didn't. I'm working off the same license and I saved them to the path that says "roaming" so, I thought they would have save to my license (not just one workstation). Can anyone offer a clue here?
Is anyone else having issues with the Eraser Tool?
Ever since I upgraded to SU 2013, when I'm using the erasure tool, the Escape key doesn't work anymore.
Has any one else noticed this?
Thanks TIG,
It seems to work pretty well. Every time I add another texture though, I have to click Grey scale again though. Maybe I'm missing something. It's a good plugin though.

Quick question,
I would like to model in monochrome but, still be able to apply and see textures to the model. For instance, I would like to apply wood siding or brick to a wall but not see it in color. I think it would help keep the model size down. I also find that if I show my clients their house in color, they sometimes get "hung up" on the colors rather than the overall design. Ideas?
I keep getting and error message that says:
"0.skb was not found"
Has anyone else experienced this message before?
It comes up about every 5 to 10 minutes.

I just did this. I have sculpted sloping site and a section of the grade is ugly with all the underside of the terrain and footings etc. seen beyond. Be sure you like your elevation view. I traced a polygon in LO along the grade with bumps, retaining walls etc. and continued down in a rectangular fashion to make a filled shape covering up the terrain below. I duplicated that and trimmed everything but the ground line, and changed that to a thick unfilled line. I found I wanted to simplify it some afterwards from the shape I used in the mask. All sorts of variations are possible, unfortunately if you change the elevation in SU...
I wound up doing something similar but, with a minor change:
Draw a poly to hide the stuff I wanted to hide. Top line was drawn to represent the grade and the bottom and side lines were just drawn straight (to complete the mask).
Highlight the mask border line.
In the Shape Style box: Select "Fill"
In the Shape Style box: Deselect "Stroke" (to hide the mask border line.
Draw a new (Heavy)line to represent the Grade - tracing the top of the mask.
Voila!
Thanks for the advice!

You might also consider setting up Layers in SketchUp so that the stuff you don't want to see is on a layer that is turned off for the particular scene. That way the basement won't be seen in the viewport at all. The benefit to this is that LO won't have to render stuff you wouldn't see anyway and this will speed up especially Vector and Hybrid renders.
It would be difficult to set the layer (in SU) correctly because I have it shown on the site and the terrain is pretty severe (as it is set into the side of a hill). The Basement is below grade in the front of the house and above grade in the rear. It is currently on it's own layer now but, if I turned it off, it wouldn't show up in the rear and side elevations.
I will try to draw the grade with a freehand line and then draw the rest of the lines (of the mask) with straight lines. I could possibly hide the side and bottom lines of the mask and fill the entire box with the same color as the background - as you described. The reason for only hiding the side and bottom lines would be so that the top (freehand) line would then serve as the grade line.
Does this sound like a viable solution?
Hi everyone,
Quick question here. I am designing a house with a "Walk Out Basement" (in other words it's built into the side of a hill). I would like to create my side elevations that do not show any construction below grade. Can anyone instruct me as to how to create a "mask" to put over the unwanted area? Is this something I need to do before I send it to Layout or can I do it inside of Layout?
Thanks!
I have to admit, when I saw that Layout had been updated, I got my hopes up that more substantial changes had been made. I really wish they would work on making the drafting tools a bit better (IE: Dimension tool). It could be a more precise when placing the end of a dimension string. Or maybe I just still haven't figured out the trick yet.

I told you of a difficult way. There is an easier way.
After you've drawn the leader, get the Select tool. Double click to open the leader arrow for editing. Hold Ctrl and click some place along the line. there'll be a little blue dot placed on the line. Let go of Ctrl and drag the dot to make an angled leader.
I'm gonna have to try this.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my family is in Kerrville. We were there for about 2 weeks this summer.
That's only about an hour and a half away From me. With the worst drought in recorded history, the Hill Country isn't as pretty as it could be.
