In the reference dialogue box it says reference status embedded.

Currently, if you copy a model from one LayOut project and paste it into another LayOut project , the link to the 3D model is not preserved even though the model path displayed in the References area is correct. I dont know if this is what you did but, if so, this may be the reason you see the status as "Embedded". To establish the link, select "Unlink" and then "Relink".

      I hope this helps

      @unknownuser said:

its stamping a larger area than the dimensions of what I am stamping.

The extra area is the offset/cut-fill. It is the red outline around your stamping surface. Type in the desired offset. In your case it will be 0'

      @unknownuser said:

Also, I need to lower the topography 8' where the side of the house is...

You can include an 8' surface to the stamp profile. Once stamped, you can separate the area with a single edge and then manipulate to whatever height you wish.

    • RE: Getting your models to show up in Google Earth

      @denbost said:

Here is a question that I have gotten recently and I thought I would throw it up here.... why not right?

      Question:
....... I’ve created a model of my office, uploaded it to 3D warehouse, and it shows up in Google earth, but only under temp. places. How do I get it to show up when anyone else searches on Google earth like other 3D building in our city?

      Answer:
      .
      .
      .
      3. Load it up to the 3d warehouse (which you did)
      .
      .
      .

      denbost

The description of seeing the model in the "Temp" directory in GE does not synch with Step 3... ie I dont think the user actualy uploaded the model to the 3DWH but instead just used "Place Model". This is not the same as uploading the model to the 3DWH, which is done via the "Share Model" feature.

"Place Model" - exports a kmz into the systems temp directory and opens the kmz in Temp area of GE. This is only local to the machine.

File>Export>3D Model>KMZ - exports a user named kmz file to a user defined local directory.

"Share Model" - uploads the skp and kmz to the 3DWH for others to see. If the model is well build with good textures, it can be accepted into the 3D Layer of GE.

      I hope this helps

    • RE: [Plugin] SketchUp Animation using mover.rb

      @unknownuser said:

Doesn't work right with components for some reason. During the animation, the components in my animation would all switch to have the axis in the original positions between scenes, so all my components would move around to different positions.

When I had my components "scaled", I saw this strange behavior as well. Applying "Scale Definition" to the scaled components corrects the problem.

    • [Plugin] SketchUp Animation using mover.rb

I was digging through some old files and I came across an old ruby that some of you might find useful.
The UI could be improved but it is pretty simple to use.
I did not write the mover.rb ruby but I am sure some of the ruby masters here in this forum can help with the code.

      FEEL FREE TO HACK AWAY!!

For examples of the mover.rb in action, take a look at this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05tvPV4ePHY

      How To Use:

      • Place the mover.rb and the mover_extensions folder into the Plugins directory
      • The position of the components (position and orientation of the component axis) are tied to the scene.
      1. Create your scenes
      2. Engage the 1st SketchUp Scene where you want the animation to start
      3. Select your component/s you want to animate and place them in the needed position and orientation. While they are selected go to Plugins > "Remember Position of Selection"
The position of the selected components will now be tied to that specific scene.
      4. Repeat Step 2 for the following scene.

When you are finished, when you click on each scene, the models will automatically transition.

      Note:

      • If you scale the component, you may see some strange animation transitions. Be sure to "scale definition" to correct the problem.
      • You will not be able to export this animation through SketchUp. If you try, the components will remain stationary.

I hope some of you find this script useful. Again, modify it as you wish.

      Cheers,
      CMD

    • RE: Layout giving error - image export to big

      fossa,

LO uses your system RAM (up to 4GB)to process and export images. The larger the image, the more memory is needed for processing.
The error you saw was due to LO running out of memory to work with. If you have other applications using large amount of memory, try closing them down before exporting your image.

      I hope this helps

Check out the base camp videos from the last one back in June. There is one about an hour long devoted entirely to this subject. It's very good.

Sorry I don't know the link. Just search the forums here and you'll find it.

Here is the 3D Basecamp video I think you are referring to. It is hosted by Daniel Tal and is called Working With Terrain and Other Irregular Surfaces

      Nice work!

You mentioned that you are having problems with the appearance of section cuts in you model when in LO. You probably know this already but check to make sure that your style settings are set correctly in order to add or remove the sections from your scene. If you hide or inactivate a section plane or cut, the style will have to be Updated or a new style will have to be created.

      I hope this helps

    • RE: Using LO for a Presentation: Collaboration & Trading files

      Also...

LO should allow you to develop a LO document by linking skp models and images that exist in a network directory. If someone changes the skp or image on the network, your LO document can be updated with the changes.

    • RE: Using LO for a Presentation: Collaboration & Trading files

      Hey John,

All graphics and models are embedded in the LO file. If you share the LO file with someone and they need to change the model all they have to do is select the model in LO > right click... "Open with SketchUp". The embedded model will open... changes can be made... and the model can be resaved to a desired location.
You may have to relink the model as it still points to the directory. This is also true for any raster graphic that is in the LO file as well.

      I hope this helps

Yes.... when exporting out to pdf, what ever is vector on the design sheet will become vector in the pdf. What ever is raster on the design sheet will become raster in the pdf. This is true for both PC and Mac versions

Also, you can control the quality of your raster when exporting with in the Document Setup area.

    • RE: Help! Sketchup files look terrible in Layout?

Just to point out an item that Tobobo mentioned above, Layout has settings to allow you to design and arrange your models at a low res state, to allow for better performance, and export at a higher dpi/res.

All this is done through the Document Setup/Paper... Rendering. See attached image

      Gene,

You can always save your SketchUp model as a version 6 skp while in SU 7

In order to be compatible with SU7 skps, the update would most likely come from Chief Architect and not from Google.

      Yep.... it is called layers_materials.rb - http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/en_ren_page.htm
...... although it will pick random colors to be applied to the layered geometry. If one wanted to match the colors that are in the layer system, one will have to do it manually.

It is a nice script and could be the solution for you.

If you want to use the runner frame that you created, I created the runner walls by using the FromContour tool in the sandbox tool set. I had to rotate the frame clockwise to offer more of a rise/run but after using the tool, I just rotated it back. See my results
