It also mentions alignment to screen in SU - which I can't fathom out. Can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong, please?.....

Select a surface > context click (right click) on that surface > select Align View. This should align your view perpendicular to the surface.

Go to 1:10 on this YouTube video and you will see how it is done

    • [Plugin] View Parts (1.2) β€” Sept 13 2011

The View Parts ruby script will build a scene for every unique component and group in a selection set.

The idea behind the ruby was to find a quick way to isolate and view each part of an assembly either for general viewing or to put into the SketchUp LayOut program for dimensioning and part arrangement.

Here is a video to see it in action:

Changed code to reflect best practices mentioned by TIG.

    • RE: Question re Layout

      Iguana,

The intent for the "Send to LayOut" is to start your LO project. Once you start the LO document, you can create additional model view windows on different pages. Do do this you can do one of the following:

      1. Select the model that currently exists and then copy/paste it to/from your clipboard
      2. File>Insert ..... and select your SketchUp model
      3. Select the model that currently exists and while using the move tool hold down the CTRL key (Option key for Mac) and move another view instance to another location on the page.

      Options 2 & 3 are presented in this video - http://www.youtube.com/sketchupvideo#p/search/10/sU5CfRyLpjs

TIP - you may want to establish all the views you want to display in SketchUp first through Scenes. Once the model is in LO, you have access to all the scenes assigned to your SketchUp model.

      I hope this helps

After loading "Nearby Models" into your component browser, click on the Details arrow and select "Save as local collection" (do not mark as Favorites). This will download all the buildings listed in the component browser onto your computer.

      Glenn,

Are you looking for raster export or animation export?

If raster, you can use layout to export your scenes. I have attached a layout file with the canvas formated to produce 1275 x 675 raster. Take your model and lay it across the canvas.

If you are looking to export an animation 1275x675, you can try programs like Sizer to help format the app window.

      jgb,

yes... it looks like the Arc tool does not analyze the edges when you are going from Construction Point to Construction Point .... or when creating edge tick marks (my personal habit)

      No edge hints

For those who may not know, I have included some examples of where you will get the cyan/magenta hints.

jgb... perhaps line segments or construction LINES instead of POINTS may help in your work.

    • RE: Problems printing to scale

      Nstocks,

There are 2 ways to print at a specific scale....

      From SketchUp:
-Set your camera settings to parallel projection and find the view you want to print out.
-> With this setting ON, your print options menu will now have fields available to you to allow for printing at different scales of your choice.

      From LayOut:

      • Chose your paper size.
      • Embed your model into the paper space and set your embedded model to parallel projection and find the view you want to print out.
-> Under the SketchUp Model menu, chose your scale from the dropdown menu.

To fade a part of your image, aside from altering your image file as mentioned above, you can also draw vector shapes over the top of the areas you want to fade out and then change their opacity.

If the edges are aliased, try changing your model to "Vector" to get the nice crisp lines.

    • RE: Hide model under section cut

      Panga,

There are 2 easy ways to achieve this.

      Option 1 - LayOut:

Since you can snap to edges in LayOut, you can simply create a vector plane by tracing the section cut edges. This will cover the part of the model you are not wanting to see.

      Option 2 - Ruby:

There is a ruby script called SectionCutFace.rb that will generate a surface to fill in section cuts. You can find it in the Ruby Library Depot - http://www.crai.archi.fr/rubylibrarydepot/ruby/em_ren_page.htm

      I hope this helps

    • RE: SU 7.1 - Dimension problem

This is a known issue that we are planning on fixing in the next maintenance release.

The issue will occur when adding text and dimensions at true intersections.

      The workarounds:
Option 1) Draw two intersecting lines at the point of intersection, add the text and then delete the lines.
Option 2) You can use LayOut's new dimensioning tool to create the needed dimensions. You should not get the odd behavior while in LayOut.

It would be nice to be able to exclude the fill or erase it where it is over the buildings.

      1. You can exclude the fill from any shape you create in LO. Select your shape and go to the Shape Style area in LO. There you will be able to uncheck the FILL option. You will also be able to control the line weight and color of the remaining shape outline.

      2. You should try LO 2.0 (comes with SketchUp Pro) there you will be able to do some tricks with vector rendering. It is much more stable as well. Have a look at this blog post pertaining to cutaways and clipmasks - http://sketchupdate.blogspot.com/2009/06/taking-it-further-with-layout-clip.html

      Gidon,

      @unknownuser said:

I wish I could save style settings for the different scenes so that I could have one scene with textures and shadows and the next scene the model would be just black and white without shadows and with profiles etc.
I thought that was possible but, try as I may, I can't get it to do that for me.

Remember, as long as the style exists in the model, you can apply it to the model in LO. The style does NOT have to be assigned to the scene.

Also, since you can find the standard views (plan, elevation F,B,R,L , etc) through LO, you dont have to assign a camera position/view to a scene. All you need to do is assign the dimensions, either by layers or visibility/hidden, to the scene.

Have a look at my attached LO file and extract the skp from it. You will see in the the scene manager how I set up my scenes. You will also see that I applied the LO "In Model" styles to the different model views.

      I hope this helps
