    • RE: Problem saving model as .skp file

Again, it was so long ago when I have to do that... πŸ˜„
I can see thatVista and 7 would not allow to remove the association through GUI directly as Dan said. πŸ˜„
but there is always a solution...

      - Download unassoc.zip and save to Desktop (attached) or [http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/unassociate-file-types-windows-7-vista/](http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/unassociate-file-types-windows-7-vista/)

      • Extract the contents to a folder and run the file unassoc.exe

      • Select the file type from the list

      • Click Remove file association (User)

Tried on Vista - it works...
      PS. Windows restart required...

Looking at your *.SKB icons, I think that for some reason you have your *.skb files associated with SU.

Make some copies of the SKB files in case.

Next, check your file association under:
Control Panel > Control Panel Home > Default Programs > Set Associations

If this is the case delete the association from the list.

hellnbak, I assume that you know that you can change the extension from *.skb to *.skp and open with SU (by default).

It would be nice if LO could handle Ruby plugins πŸ’
LO could be powerful as SU ❓

I can imagine how some of the current Ruby plugins would automate/enrich LO workflow.

      Dear All,

I followed the points conversion and successfully triangulated the bunch into 'good enough' terrain.
      One more question...
I know that you can switch off edges globally, but how to hide all edges within a Group? - (not one-by-one, as I know how to do that πŸ˜‰ )

Smooth Edges not to be used !

The aim is to hide edges within terrain and keep linework for trees, buildings etc visible.

    • RE: Show intersection edges of two groups?

I always use Intersect > Selection to control the amount of EXTRA GEOMETRY added to my models.
I've seen some SU files to have more Intersect Lines than 3D objects itself. πŸ˜‰

Bentley/MicroStation had some really handy 2D/3D button to control the 'Z' value - When switched to 2D it would always draw in two dimensional plane and never snap beyond. πŸ˜‰

    • RE: DWG won't import into Sketchup Pro V8

      Try the following:

      1. Explode few times to be sure that you have simple bunch of lines and arcs
      2. Change font to simplex.shx
      3. Purge
      4. Audit
      5. Save to some basic AC 14
      6. You can also save as DXF
        Try to import (both) again.

    • RE: Adding Custom Aligned Views to Standard Views

      Hi Guys,

I have double checked the issue and have to agree with sfto1 that 'Aligned View' saved as SCENE in SU is not treated as true 2D orthographic view in LO.
The dims are snapping to any elements with depth.

At the same time, I get some random results with the dimensioning.
Sometimes the view behaves like true 2D but sometimes like 3D - I'm not sure why?

I don't use the LO at present, but it could be some simple solution available, which I'm not aware of... ❓

I always saved them 'manually' where I have to save - it would be few years by now and it works. πŸ˜„

    • RE: Dimensions

I'm not sure where you have the problem with dims but you can check the following steps:

      1. Start at the bottom (1st click - midpoint or endpoint of a face)
      2. Go to the top of the tower (2nd click - midpoint or endpoint of a face)
      3. Drag the dimension outside the model and look for the 'dotted' guidelines (PINK is perpendicular to two dim anchor points when you do your dims and doesn't follow X,Y,Z...

...but you are looking for RED, GREENor BLUE

In your model the PINK guideline would appear first (because doesn't follow X,Y,Z)...
move your mouse slightly downwards to see the RED or GREEN upwards to see BLUE
      4. Then 3rd click wherever you want

      • REDdotted guidelinewould follow X axis
      • GREEN dotted guidelinewould follow Y axis
      • BLUE dotted guidelinewould follow Z axis

We are using the path for styles, materials etc. but it doesn't help us with the models.

Our modelsare saved based on job numbers and stored on the network = we don't have one central location for models 😞
