RE: More Star Wars crap
Hi Solo,
When I saw your SW models I decided to buy some blueprints...
I was wondering which blueprints are you using? -
RE: Any suggestions to improve this render.
I like the building, glass looks fine, first plan grass really good...
I would tweak:- Trees to the right - you can see the repetitiveness, I would add shadow from the trunk
- Tall grass - too strong for me, and you can see the repetitiveness
- Wooden Screen - variation of wood texture for each slat would be appreciated

RE: Sketchup create attributes for all groups when export to dwg
Have you tried:
- attdel2.lsp
- PURGE-ATTRIBS.LSP
Can you post the skp/dwg file or something similar?

RE: I believe I have a possessed model

I had a similar problem when tried to model solar system in SU...
All planets are so far apart that SU started to go crazy - never managed to finish -
Last week I copied and pasted a Group and realized that after pasting I moved by a fraction... The move was so small that I couldn't even measure or see but, after exploding I could delete overlapping faces as separate elements.
SU didn't like it and crashed few times before I started to inspect the faces.
I also use ThomThom's solid inspector.

RE: Large DWG import
Have you tried to split your DWG to few smaller drawings and import them one after another to SU with 'Preserve drawing origin' ticked?

SoftCAD.3D - 1997 | SketchUp - 2000
Hi Guys,
I was passing bay and thought that I will share something interesting with you...
Have a look at SoftCAD.3D launched in 1997I used to do all my uni 3D projects in it and many 3D visuals for my clients.
At the same time I worked for a company called SoftARCH which was the dealer of SoftCAD.3D and ArchiTECH.PC (people who used to be involved in ArchiCAD by Graphisoft).I still have my SoftCAD.3D, English Lite Version 1.16 (FREE Version)
It has:- Terrain Tool
- Object Tool
- Library Tool
- Geometry Tool
- Scene Tool
- 2D/3D Positioning
- Textures Tool
- Rendering engine with raytracing
- Animation
- Light sources
- Sun position
- DXF import/export (DWG import/export in PRO version)
Still works under Windows XP.
Few print screens below...
Pretty advanced...
Any similarities with SketchUp?I will try to publish some renderings going back to 1997-2000 - all done in SoftCAD.3D

RE: Quantity survey ?
Hi AndyG,
We are using BiMUp 5D.
The model has to be organised using Components and Groups and you will be able to extract quite a lot of info. -
RE: I quit
Thomas, I've seen your update on LinkedIn and was passing by SUF to say Congrats.
-
RE: Free perspective utility
I agree...
Very good for exterior but it makes few mistakes on interior shots.

RE: Modeling Issue :(
Hi bpjmarriott1993,
Small adjustment to the board is required.
You have to add some unified triangles to finish off.
See attachment.

RE: How many of you have updated to SU 2013?
Hi Guys,
We had a go with SU2013.
The only one improvement which we could see (and pay for) is the speed in LO or do I missed something?
I know that there is few other changes but... we are still using 8.0 PRO.Don't like the new icons in SU and I'm surprised that LO still has the same and the most ugly icons I have ever seen in a 'PRO' software.
PS. If I would be SketchUp/Trimble, I will run some small competition IMMEDIATELY to design the LO icons

RE: MAJOR MISTAKE IN SKETCHUP
Hi TC2 AKA THUNDERCARPET,
In the past, I have used various software to undelete files.
Recently tried FreeUndelete - it worked.Normally, I would go for one which doesn't need installation and 'Save/Recover' goes to a different drive.
Any installation or files saving on the same drive (after files are deleted) can reduce your chance to recover deleted files. When you delete...recover immediately and good luck.
Next time you will use Ctrl+S every step, every line you draw to be sure that you have something on your drive

RE: Temperature gradient on Sketchup 8.0
Hi diogofsousa92
Hmmm...
Now the task need to have some animation - I did some simple setting out - you can export to *.avi or sequence of bitmaps if needed.Hava a look at the attached sample.
PS. Next step - we will import the *.xls loggers data to SU (first thought - I would use AutoCAD to the create the cloud and the import to SU - any other thoughts?).

RE: Temperature gradient on Sketchup 8.0
Hi diogofsousa92,
Again, I don't know how to do it yet but, I try to follow your assignment...
You said that you have data loggers:
- What kind of data do you collect (just temperature over time)?
- What kind of data format it is (*.csv, *.xls)?
- What kind of graph do you want to see in SketchUp (2D - where X is the time and Y is the temperature)?
- Do you have to show the temperature distribution within a room/shape? - I'm just thinking out loud here...
If this is the case it is almost like a 2D point cloud but, it could me more fun - you could create 3D point cloud...Easily done in SketchUp.
You could use:
X axis = as a time (24 hours),
Y axis = as a day (365 days)
Z axis = as a temperature (whatever you read from your loggers in Excel)
Each logger would produce separate graph...You will get surface...which you could slice and colour with different temperature thresholds and slice again day-by-day etc - I see that as 'terrain with contours' with fixed/predicted plan area.
Have a look at point cloud and terrain topics in SU.
PS. I think it could be beautifully presented in SketchUp

RE: Temperature gradient on Sketchup 8.0
Hi diogofsousa92,
I don't know how to do it but, temperature and light have similarities in the way how you draw the gradients / distribution.
There are few plugins for SketchUp which are dealing with light and energy 'Element'.I can only assume - if this is possible with light and energy it would be possible with temperature.
Temperature could be more trickier (more external factors could disturb the distribution) but, some basic modelling should be possible.Just a thought...
Look for Analysis Tools for SketchUp.
