    • Orienting Textures

When I've got tiles on a roof using the original Sketchup material I can right click and find 'texture' and then 'position'. But with some new wood materials that I added since, the 'texture' line isn't in the right click menu. What's missing here?

    • RE: Stacking Viewports in Layout

Thanks Dave, the question is, how do you turn off the background. Wait... I tried construction documents style and it works but other styles don't. That must be what I was doing wrong.
So with styles, when you edit, is this viewport background behaviour manageable from the Edit tab in Sketchup's Style dialog? There's a Transparency slider there.

    • Stacking Viewports in Layout

Stacking viewports is a nifty trick which I'd like to do. For example vector linework over a rastered, textured and coloured one or even a cutaway thing. I can already do the clipping mask trick but the white background of the upper viewport is the problem. I usually use the Construction Documents style. Is it about turning off the background in the upper viewport or is there a particular style you need to be able to see through to the lower viewport?

    • Layout Clock?

Fredo's Sketchup Clock is such a handy thing, but when I'm working in Layout there's a gap. What do others do?

    • Driving Dimensions

I heard about the LEDAS plugin for parametric modelling in Sketchup and was very excited since I have worked on a lot of the different MCAD programs in the past and I have a project now which would be ideal for it.
It was a disappointment to read about the shortcomings of the Driving Dimensions plugin discussed here a few years ago.
Is anyone aware of anything similar for Sketchup?

Thanks Dave, I wondered why it wouldn't work for me like that but just realised I wasn't entering group edit mode. All good now.

    • Vertex Coordinates

I'd like to know exactly where in 3D space a vertex (a point) is sometimes. There seems to be a way of doing it with the Layout label tool but how about in Sketchup? Also, I find it easy enough to select an edge but how do you select a vertex?

Ooh, nice, thanks guys and good tip, TIG. I've got ctrl+Shft+h toggling it now.

    • Where was that switch?

I finally found the check-box that hides the rest of the model while editing a group. I vaguely remember that it was in a funny spot. Now I realise that it isn't always best and it would be good if I could remember where that was so that I could toggle it on and off. I've searched everywhere.
Can anyone remind me where that was?

    • RE: Managing Textures

I've got all my materials here in the default folder:-

      C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015\Materials

I'm trying all the stock standard ones that came with Sketchup. I'm wondering if there's a preference setting I might have bumped.

    • Managing Textures

I expected to be able to drag a texture to another folder, from the upper panel of the materials dialog to the lower panel but the cursor changes to a 'no go' icon when I click to drag. How is this done?

    • Camera Share in real time

I'm checking out Revizto now that they have made their software free. The main thing I'm interested in is camera sharing with a client or someone else in real time.

Has anyone got that working yet?

Its possible to share a model in neat ways like sending an executable file that installs the viewer but I want to sort out everything that's possible without the cloud subscription. If nothing else its an OK free render program. Most of the user help materials on their website haven't been updated to their new licensing model.

      Is anyone using anything else?

    • Editing Smart Labels

I like to use a template set to millimetres but when I add a smart label showing area I want to have it read in square metres. It would seem a pity to make a dumb label in its place. Is there a way?

    • Model Size and Speed

Can someone point me to any prior discussions on how to control model size?
I find my models slow down a lot when they get up above 15Mb. The operation 'Intersect Faces with Selection' is the thing that takes time. I would normally model the roof early but whenever a client wants to alter something and the roof needs changing then I'm editing a big heavy model.

    • RE: SketchUp to LayOut for Architecture

Thanks for the opportunity to request a feature in the anticipated book.
I'd like to learn about the possibilities for 'smart tags' in view labels. The little referenced balloons that indicate where a section view may be found. I'm sure they could be automated to some extent.
