Hi everybody. Thanks for using my model for rendering tests. [image: qkiG_SIDWIP-014.jpg] This was the one I've done with Kerkythea. If you'd like to see more rendered models you can visit or my site, or directly my web album at Picasa All models are available in the Warehouse, except the Grendizer model, cause is still in progress.

(I think that was the thread I was thinking of...) It doesn't qualify as a Ruby script because it depends on two pre-made components - one for horizontal dimensioning and one for vertical (you could rotate for the vertical, but I chose to place the vertical dimensioning outside the lines.) Also, the .rb files assume another routine to locate components. ($component_folder) But I will share the code if any other ruby developers want to use it. def hdim(ploc, len) model = Sketchup.active_model entities = model.active_entities sname = "CS_hdim-240" clen = 240 # size of component in inches # see if we have already loaded the component definition = model.definitions[sname] if (definition == nil) skp_name = sprintf("%s\\%s.skp",$component_folder,sname) definition = model.definitions.load(skp_name) end#def instance = entities.add_instance(definition, ploc) transformation = Geom;;Transformation.scaling(ploc, len/clen, 1, 1) instance.transform!(transformation) end#def def vdim(ploc, len) model = Sketchup.active_model entities = model.active_entities sname = "CS_vdim-240" clen = 240 # size of component in inches # see if we have already loaded the component definition = model.definitions[sname] if (definition == nil) skp_name = sprintf("%s\\%s.skp",$component_folder,sname) definition = model.definitions.load(skp_name) end#def instance = entities.add_instance(definition, ploc) transformation = Geom;;Transformation.scaling(ploc, 1, len/clen, 1) instance.transform!(transformation) end#def Let me know if you want to components as well. They both have the dimension lines pointing to 0,0.

There's spam everywhere - it's just up to the number of posts altogether and the time and energy moderators (or any kind of staff) can devote to filtering them. There is (though not too many) spam posts here as well - but thank those who report them we can handle them.

I was looking up the base camp earlier this week while I was thinking about how to get some sort of meeting going. Here is what I read: http://aecnews.com/news/2006/08/16/1958.aspx Has anyone heard any news about a base camp in the future @unknownuser said: SketchUp 3D Base Camp Drops Off the Radar for 2006 Posted on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 2:25 PM The 2005 SketchUp 3D Base Camp won’t be returning for an encore in 2006. In a letter today to Base Camp attendees, The Google SketchUp team said “It's not that we don't want to; we just don't have the resources to do it properly.” Given that SketchUp is now owned by a company that harvests money with almost as many zeros as its name suggests, one has to wonder what resources are lacking. The apology continues: BaseCamp was such a great experience last year that we were all looking forward to doing it again this fall. Getting the chance to meet everyone, and to have everyone meet each other, was our favorite part of the event. This doesn't mean that there won't be one next year—that's still very much a possibility. The letter tries to explain what’s keeping the SketchUp team so busy it can’t throw another big party: Currently, we're working on SketchUp 6 and Grizzly, which some of you might have seen previewed at AIA in Los Angeles in June. We're also trying our hardest to have both platforms available at the same time. Then there are the French, Spanish, Italian, German and Japanese versions of SketchUp 6 that we've got to have ready... Needless to say, we don't have much time to use the pool table in the break room anymore. If you need a SketchUp 3D Base Camp fix, here’s a list of articles from our coverage last year: @robmoors said: I believe something like a conference already exists: The Sketchup Basecamp

We will look at this again, but I believe the group/component/entity will report its own material and not the "Color by Layer" material. But we will try it. It would be a shame to miss the obvious answer. TextureHelper lets us save copies of the texture file for the layer, but neither Texture Helper of UVQHelper seem to let us access the texture size. @unknownuser said: What's wrong with this agonizing approach: create an "array entry" for every layer For every group/component/entity... determine if it has any material associated with it if so, for it's layer "array entry", add the material to it as a subarray When done, you have an array of layers, and each layer records the materials in it. From the first post, I thought I was missing the obvious. This is the obvious approach. Since materials don't have layers, but objects have both materials and layers, you just have to run the objects and make your own list. From my perspective, no big deal - it's just not a quick call to any singe method to get it done. Todd

Hello, Perhaps this is a good place to post my SU Kitchen Modeling Consortium idea. I am not concerned here in opening the SU door to the masses as facilitating SU use for professional designers and architects. With residential remodel design being a large part of my work, I'd like to use SU to present 3d kitchen models in something comparable to that provided by cabinet makers. If professionals worked together online to glean, vet, and share models and systematic modeling methodology, we might make something that is useful to everybody. Agreeing on the quality and impetus of work might be the hardest part among designers. But at least you are not leaving it up to non-designers to ferret out as in 3d Warehouse. The process could start out informally, but of course, it needs a place online to happen. Hope this is not too OT

Good to know. The developer had that claim on his webpage. Sounds like he needs an update. Another uberOptions returns the scroll setting of 1, 2, 3, 6 lines, or something like that. SetPoint left that out. And he added a few additional little things for many other mice and keyboards. If anyone adds uberOptions, you will have to reset all custom settings. I knew about this plugin before I got the mouse so there was no big annoyance. When installing, you get the option to save your original SetPoint settings. But they definitely are not carried over after adding the plugin.

@dtrarch said: Al I checked out the Accurender site and in truth was underwhelmed by the render quality. Also only saw one interior with lighting and same did not project light on anything. ??? Dry hole IMO. dtr Nxt is in Beta test mode and a few, good, AccuRender users have been helping with it. One of its goals is to provide a "Studio" mode, in which you can render an object without adding any lights, but still ge a good rendering. (This is used by adding HDRI illumination and reflection). By eliminating the step of adding lights, it makes it easy to get a good rendering without spending time adding things to your drawing. If I understand it correctly, this rendering was made without adding lighting to the model, but just by selecting the Studio setting. (Ignore the fact that the race car is wheel are below the floor - this is just a beta test image.) [image: hHzJ_Racecar.jpg] It is great to have reflective materials, etc. but they need something to reflect. The Studio mode gives objects something to reflect without having to add a lot of geometry to the model.
