Thank you TIG - this is just the kind of info I was after. I'll print this out and sit back down with the IT guys on Monday and see what we can come up with. @tig said: Your IT guys are on a sticky wicket if they want to control ALL plugins use, because you can download a plugin to any folder you have full rights to We don't have permissions to anything other than our user folders (my docs ect) and we only download .rb and .rbs files from sketucation / smustard that have reviews and credible history but yes I get what you are saying. As I said I fully understand the need for PC security, just want an easy workaround (which you have provided) that enables me make full use of the flexibility and power that plugins provide in SU. Hopefully this will be ok with our IT guys. Thanks again for the speedy response - as always much appreciated....

Do you have a typical pool model, and a series of the tile images you could upload here? It might not be too much work to get extrapolate colors to work for very very very basic uv mapping, as long as it is 4 cornered face mapping onto another 4 cornered face, for example.

Hi Meezo, I use a MacBook Pro for SketchUp. I would have some doubts about the performance of the Mac Air. It probably will do for what you need. I suggest that you ask the Apple dealer to download SketchUp at the store and load one of your SketchUp files. Then you can be sure it it works for you. Money is tight these days .... tell me about it I have purchased my last two MacBook Pros from the Apple Refurb Store. The computers are as good as new and have been discounted up to 15%. I see you are located in the USA, so check out this link, http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac It should be possible to get a good spec refurb MBP for the cost of a new Air. Here are a couple of screen grabs I did! [image: QxOc_13.3MBP.png] [image: Q6SS_15.png] I'd say, go for the 15". Mike

Like said, these kind of works are often a composite of a render and postpro in photoshop (or similar app). In this case, there are topics on Thea Render forum and here in sketchucation that do explain the process in some degree. From the topic at Thea Render forum you can even find some pure test renders, so you can get a idea about how much postpro work is done. Btw the birch tree model is downloadable to registred users of Thea Render.

Hi SU Power Users, You've got less than two weeks left to send your candidature to apply for the book. I've already received some great case studies about many uses of SketchUp but there's still room for a few more, including in architecture and interior design. If you think you've got great advices to share with the readers, don't be late ! Send me your candidature to contact AT arch-image.com or by PM. Best Regards, Laurent http://www.arch-image.com/tag/sketchup/ (in French)

I think there is a plugin here about selection memory. You can't lock your selection but, at least you can bring it back.

Look in the SCF PluginStore for my batch importer, which will import all files of a given 'type' found in a folder...

No worries! Just one thing, if you draw your model in a metric template and dimension it, you can save it and then drag the saved file into an imperial template and the dimesions will automatically convert to feet and inches for you. [image: VH2P_Samefiledifferentunits.JPG]

A user's AppData 'Roaming' profile will be synced across a network. http://www.blogtechnika.com/what-is-application-data-folder-in-windows-7/ So if you have two PCs on the same network the same users will 'shared' stuff in his 'Roaming' AppData folders... However, most of the time your AppData stuff stays on one original PC [e.g. AppData Local folders] and therefore it needs manually copying between different PCs - either across a network or by other 'cloud' or 'hardware' methods...

I selected 'use maximum texture size' ignored the warning and for some strange reason changing tools is no longer a problem. No idea why that should be but everything else was as has been suggested here so I wnet for broke and tada. Just been using sketchup 2013 for a few minutes and normal service has resumed. Clicking about half a dozen times to get a tool change. What is going on?????????

hi tig, ok, you are right, puts does it automatically. the declaration of the variables happens in the beginning of the ruby, first loaded from the default file and then possibly changed by the user... these settings then create the geometry and are saved to a separate file (later as function : reload last user parameters). will just try the puts-version. stan EDIT: IT WORKS parameters are saved at the end of ruby and automatically reloaded on start wonderful!

Well... the context-menu 'intersect' often works on selected edges/faces ? If that fails try to over-draw on the problem edges - that can jolt them into intersecting. Or try grouping everything and exploding it, which also helps re-intersect sometimes... Sometimes awkward geometry needs the faces to be subdivide using diagonals to triangulate that face and force other edges to intersect properly, once the face is divided the unwanted extra dividing lines can be erased... Because your form is symmetrical why not divide it in half and erase the least correct part? THEN fix the remainder... then copy that to one side and use Flip or Scale -1 on it to Flip it, then move the parts together and erase any unneeded central lines...
