@tomsdesk said: Richard, mainly showcasing the trees I suppose...though not as blatantly as here: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=17149 Hope you can help out with the render app conundrum. Good luck with that Tom. I think for rendering they probably lack a bit of detail and are a bit flat, the ones that Kwistenbeibel made up with my old "Tree Factory" are probably about as light on as you could go for rendering. Cutouts can work if you have a great enough collection of very high res maps that show a variety of shadow casts, though these are often better added post processing. Just fo shadow casting (hidden to the camera) these are probably fine though even a fairly simple cut out works well for those! Though someone will possibly prove me wrong! Though I've got a massive collection of 3d skp trees and pretty much no matter how good they are they still produce pretty poor results in renderings palm trees aside! Though probably 90% of work is done for areas that palm trees are only seen in James Bond movies! Good wishes with this project mate!

That's cool. My four year old son enjoys drawing with SketchUp, too. The other day he was working on my second computer. Supposed to be drawing a train layout in Xtrkcad but he'd gotten SketchUp open and had drawn a snowman in 3D.

Thanks Guys. I can take no credit for the design I'm afraid. The way it works is that the competing teams or the GLXP organisers send me sketches, engineering drawings, or sometimes just written descriptions of the proposed designs, which I then interpret into something that is (hopefully) visually appealing. This usually means I have a little room for interpretation. In practice this means that often the models are fairly simple (see the clay render below, often built only to be viewed from one camera angle, and I can then fake quite a lot with some half-decent texturing and lighting! The GLXP is still at quite an early stage, so most designs are still fairly conceptual - although I suspect a couple of teams are close to producing flight-ready hardware. sort of a peeve of mine i guess: dof - depth of field translates to how much of an image is in focus. It's not an effect like flare or motion blur. if your dof is 8', that means there's a zone in the scene which is 8' deep and in focus.. (this rendering probably has a dof of ~25' which begins near the furthest mat and extends outside) we're seeing the same thing but in writing it would say something like "there's not enough dof here.. the dof is too shallow.. etc." con't

Alan, I didn't realize that the floor stone texture was from FF, I thought about it after I said it and thought that it could be from FormFonts. By the way that is a nice texture some other people outside this forum commented on it. I like your idea of using silhouettes, thanks for your comments. DzineTech, good pointers about the different elements on the rendering and I agree that the lights turned on in the middle of the day it just looks silly. Thanks guys.

@daniel said: Who says it has to be steel? Maybe it's aluminum. Very nice design. Considering vehicle exhaust fumes, you might want to reconsiderthe white finish. See? Not white? Didn't think about that. Good point.

@unknownuser said: That is a nice little table eco. Thanks. Can't take credit for originality. It's just a knock off of current popular designs. I'm not to happy with the render style either, but I'm still experimenting.

This was a quick image, rendering a very green for my taste. not completed as I would have liked, but it is like to leave things when you rush to finish a work, I think things are in the business. good, but to show that just do not believe my favorite images and those that try to do better, we need to show the beauty and also not so nice [image: KuEk_escena1_6copia.jpg]
