Wow, I could not highlight it, therefore it made it difficult to find. I went back to the outliner, and found it, probably as you have. The organizer seems a key component in making the model work efficiently, I am still trying to figure how to do that. thanks so very much for you help and insights. Paul, Got it, didn't think about extruding edges, over scaling, and applying the texture on both sides. I will apply your process when I get to the office tomorrow. The other great thing about using a texture is that it will warp a curved surface. A long range view doesn't need detailing like this, and a closeup can use the component Gaieus provided. Thanks.

Here is a totally "dummy" material file with a 1 pixel x 1 pixel,totally transparent png image set as 1 cm x 1 cm texture. Use it as "dummy shadow caster" in cases like yours. Not that in the "In model" prewiew it may appear as black for some reason. Transparent.skm

My workaround has been to do the SAVEAS, and then in the copied file delete, not hide, absoulutely everything that wont' appear in the 2d section cut. It's a bit of a bear, but at least I don't have to redraw in ACAD, right? At the least, the Forum has helped me confirm that I'm not missing any basic knowledge, and the various feedbacks have led to my workaround. much appreesh! N]

Hello everybody! I'm trying to learn some vray for sketchup, but since i started using the manual i kept getting the same annoying blue hue and hard shadows as katarina. I googled for it, found this thread and tried what both of you suggested, still i couldnt get the same image as the one in the manual (pages 11 and 12). Today i finally succeeded in my efforts, so i joined the forum to share my experience. To avoid the problem katarina described so precisely all you need is first follow the manual, then in the environment menu double click the M right of GI. Under common/type select "none" then apply. At this point the "M" becomes an "m". Do the same for background. Set white or any colour you like for GI, leave it as it is for baclground. Now you have a soft light and no more blue hue. The chairs are still darker than the background. I think this is due to the fact that they dont have a material assigned yet. If like me you still have to learn about vray materials, you can obtain an image which is closer to the one in the manual by checking override materials in the material box under global switches and selecting white.

Hi Russ, I'm not sure what files you mean... In fact, you can "add" any file (that is skp, any compatible image and style files) to a model that it can "contain" (skp as components, images as textures and of course, a style file as styles). What "else " do you have in mind?
