I wonder how that level of detail would come into play in any application? Of course, I don't know enough about internal data handling. Maybe some programs don't use all available data, or maybe they process it differently.

Unfortunately, no 64-bit SU available. Also seems that 64-bit SU is fairly unlikely to arrive soon. When a renderer runs in context of SU, you will limited to 32-bit address space, even if you have 64-bit OS and Largeaddressaware is in use (SU8 maintenance 1). Largeaddressaware does help, but if your scene size is great enough, only feasible option is to use a external (to SU process) renderer, then you can benefit truly from 64-bit processes.

There is currently no way to convert binary applications into platform-independent web-applications (that use pure javascript). Thank you for the warning. By The way, if we run task manager will we see in the process tab that SketchUp.exe running?

I think the idea (from what I read) was that you would 'set up' views at certain locations to be viewed 'on site'. So imagine having a client with you in front of the vacant site / plot and letting him view the virtual building himself at the set points using the iPad! We would be talking exteriors for the most part. Another development in this area that I think would be useful is this, iPad 2 + Head Tracking: Glasses-free 3D http://www.macstories.net/news/ipad-2-head-tracking-glasses-free-3d/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+macstories%2Fvip+%28MacStories+VIP%29&utm_content=Google+Reader 'We track the head of the user with the front facing camera in order to create a glasses-free monocular 3D display. Such spatially-aware mobile display enables to improve the possibilities of interaction. It does not use the accelerometers and relies only on the front camera.' Be sure to view the video, very impressive indeed! While I have been impressed with AR technology, I was wondering how I could use it on a practical level. I think these apps are heading in the right direction for me at any rate [image: JcMk_HeadTracking.jpg]

Jeff, Sorry to come in a little late here, but actually the best type of file for CNC is .STL (Stereo Lithographic), which is the industry standard, not necessarily DXF/DWG. (although some routers do read DWG, but they tend to be of the very high end type) Tom

Normally during Chrome install your asked to import bookmarks. At least you used to be? You should try Xmarks and LastPass. The first stores your bookmarks on their servers so if something happens to your OS your bookmarks are safe. LastPass is great for logging into sites, filling in forms, etc. Again stored in the cloud. Check them out if you haven't.

@ledisnomad said: I'm no expert, but I try to keep up on exactly what you're looking for: bang-for-the-buck hardware. My office just bought a new laptop for presentations, but it needed to be robust enough to support real-time fly-through and design charrettes. We got an Alienware laptop from Dell. Although the Alienware is great, the 15" uncustomized model is $1200, perhaps a little more than your budget. However, the uncustomized Dell XPS 17" with similar power, maybe even a little more, is listed as $949. The only thing I'd upgrade on that is from Windows 7 Home to Pro for $130, so $1079, just over your budget. You can find equally powerful laptops from many other companies that cost less than alienware does too. Other than the M11x (which is essentially a gaming netbook) their lowest base price listed at the moment is $1,200 USD before taxes and shipping. If you are looking to get bang-for-your-buck hardware, then alienware is usually at the bottom of the list. The problem with alienware is that they have so much brand-hype and marketing behind their systems that they charge far more than what would otherwise be available elsewhere. $750-$1000 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006740%204022&IsNodeId=1&ShowDeactivatedMark=False Just for some "budget" examples. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220921 1200 dollars for that, and that laptop outperforms my desktop. My desktop is no slouch, and cost more than that just for the tower. The problem with that m17x alienware unit is that you are paying extra for the nvidia 3dvision. Do you really need that?

My intent here is mostly for those who do not have use of one or both of their hands/arms. Perhaps it is as simple as Dragon Naturally Speaking??? If Dean Kaemen can engineer the DARPA arm...someone must be playing with this voice stuff in Sketchup. (Finally did my first Segway tour....am now officially a nerd)

Glad it works now...I think 3D Connexion did a poor job - or no job! - of informing users of the new update, so they are to blame too.

This is alot more advanced than Mapzone(which is still a cool tool). Here's a marketplace for substances made in the Substance Designer application: http://www.turbosquid.com/Substance The thing to remember here is each substance can be varied to thousands of material variations with a few moves of a slider... once you've built the substance it becomes a "on the fly" texture generator for you. This is particularly useful in game and film texture design. Best, Jason.
