I saw this site a while back and downloaded a few to play around with. They are very high poly models with many missing faces. Fine to give you a start but more meant for max or lightwave than skethcup. Nice collection though. Scott

As far as Mac's go, You don't want to take the battery out. The laptop will actually reduce the processing power available when the battery is out. I am not sure of the particulars (whether it reduces the amount of available cores or if it reduces the available processor speed), but I do know that it is not desirable. As far as battery health; you are supposed to calibrate the battery once a month (let the computer run off of the battery until it shuts itself down and then attaching the power supply. Other than that, I would just use it and don't worry about it. My Macbook Pro is about 18 months old; I use it 95% of the time with the power supply, and it is just recently starting to show signs of not holding as long of a charge as before, though not bad enough to replace yet. I am actually looking forward to having to get another battery so that I have two!

Good find Edson and thanks for sharing. Yes I'd say the name is a play on 'Schindler's List'. Coincidently while flicking through the TV channels a couple of nights ago I happened on Schindler's List, and yes I watched it again for at least the 6th time ..... great film. Mike

@will03 said: yeah, that is a clean install...with the old user documents, and a clean registry as you've described. and just to make things clear, PC's have more viruses. PC's also have more computers. Proportionately if one were to look at the ratio of virus/pc's and virus/mac's I bet you could find a very similar number. Its always easy to take shots at the big guys because they are much more exposed. if the roles were reversed, im sure that mac's would have just as many, its not because macs are magically engineered to be virus proof. I also don't want to get into a big name calling argument here. Mac has a place in the world as PC's do. I happen to side with PC, you with Mac. we all get the same work done, so who cares about the means? Its like comparing writing with your right hand to writing with your left. yes there are more right handers, but that doesn't mean its right, or the only way. Will03 Hi Will, While I'm very new to Mac and still in a learning curve, all be it fun, I have yet to have any serious difficulties. I am a bit of a nut when it comes to trying out new programs and utilities. Doing this on the PC was causing me all kinds of problems and down time not to mention money paid to PC tech guys, not any longer! I think I am probably looking and testing far more stuff these days without any hitches. I was slow to make the switch. It was a combination of reasons, cost, laziness and non available Mac versions of some software that I use. When Apple adopted the Intel chip I felt that I had no real excuse so made the switch. I agree with you when you say, 'we all get the same work done, so who cares about the means?' But for me the Mac is the easier way to get the job done AND I was a PC user for many many years! Its simply are far more productive machine that does not need continous monitoring and careful handling. It handles a lot of this stuff in the background. I find your comparison a little strange, Its like comparing writing with your right hand to writing with your left. yes there are more right handers, but that doesn't mean its right, or the only way I have quite a few friends that are 'lefties', my father was one. I often talk to them about the difficulties they have in this area and they all tell me that they live in a 'right hand' World. For example, it would be far more convenient for them if writing was right to left! There are lot of other ordinary things that are 'right hand' orientated, just check out one of the left-hand web sites its quite an industry! On the matter of viruses, I really do believe that Macs are far better protected in their core than PCs. Mac manufacture is a 'closed shop' and I think this could be the main reason for its inherent stability whereas IBM opened its doors and spawned what we now call the PC. PCs will be around for many years to come with the current situation BUT I wonder what the situation would be if Apple opened its doors like IBM did years ago? If you have not tried a Mac for a week I suggest that you hire or borrow one and give it a try. I think you could be pleasantly surprised. Its like taking a test drive in an auto transmission car for the first time after years of using a manual transmission car. On the other hand I like auto transmission cars but prefer manual transmission for the extra driver input, in cars yes, but not PCs Mike

Hi, just bought myself a HP9800 and I'm very satisfied with the quality. For less than $300.00 you can't beat that. It can print on 13x19.....I print my Cad drawings on 13x23 with no problem. I use XP but it's Vista Certified. Here's the link: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/18972-18972-236251-14438-3328075-439153.html?jumpid=oc_R1002_USENC-001_HP%20Deskjet%209800%20Printer&lang=en&cc=us Good luck shopping Rick

I recently switched to Vista, (nearly switched to a Mac - might have been better). I have discovered that Architectural desktop 2006 3DS Max 6 - 8 Pov-Ray V-Ray Truespace PowerCAD Revit (before latest release, only tried an older version) TurboCAD (ditto) AutoCad versions previous to 2008 Sketchy Physics and several other Su plugins Loads of useful older software that i have won't run or don't run properly on Vista. Maybe there are ways to get them to run but I don't have the time or the inclination to find out and at the moment can't afford the software upgrades. ProgeCAD and Cycas run fine on Vista so I can still do CAD. In general though, as an OS for design software, Vista sucks in my opinion, but it does look nice and er, that's it. No other real advantages that I can see. I heard Dell have dropped Vista completely for Ubuntu Linux. And SU will run on linux. See link. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gKcepdfm5C8&feature=RecentlyWatched&page=1&t=t&f=b

Well I have the monitor... And from what it seems, i can display 1440x900. At least the nvidea tools let me set it without any problem. SO I guess the 5500 series cards can handle widescreen? Oh well, im off to see if i can fix some issues with small text. Im not used to running 1440x900. It seems like it is tryign to display half pixels almost on some of the text... particularly in the address bar on FF. It makes parts of the letter appear in a bold white while other parts of the same letter seem faded out. Maybe I am not really at 1440x900? You woul think it would display fine, or is this an issue you guys have came across? On the other hand SU is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better like this. I have all my toolbars on the right hand side like how I have photoshop set up: [image: SSofSU.png]

hmmm, where have I heard that before?... The way touch screens and touch pads are developing, I have chosen to wait till March next year, apparently a few new models are to be released that are built for Cad and 3d apps.
