New toy alert!!

Drool!!
Why is it that when you are as broke as a...can't think of anything worse off than me right now. , that a new toy hits which you cannot afford?
Anyway If anyone here uses a 'Space navigator', 'Explorer' etc you will want to see this new 3D connexion toy, the 'Space pilot pro'
-
I don't know... Somehow I believe that with a normal space navigator and some handy shortcuts you get pretty much the same workflow...
The option to check your mail on the tiny screen instead of your 22' screen is a big plus though!

Drool x2
I have the navigator and love it, and have been considering moving up to the next level (more work for the left hand).........but holy cow!
If I buy......I'll try not to rub it in
Thanks Solo

I'll give you ยฃ20 a beer for it

I've never used any of these kind of gadgets. What never sure if they where any good to use. I take it that they are? Solo?
This thing looks like something from StarTrek.
I see they are Sketchup compatible. That's nice. -

Oh my god! This looks awesome. But $500 is quite hefty. Know what they want for it here in Germany? โฌ593,81 Dont know which currentcy converter they are using.
Seems I'll stick with my normal Space Pilot. It's such a great gadget, I never want to work SU without it. If their drivers and community support wouldn't be that, well, suboptimal, i'd really really recommend it from the heart.

It's interesting. The 3DConnexion site gives the same price tag in all European stores as the one in the US (499 excl. tax) but in Euros not in Dollars. Have they gone nuts?
(For this money I could get a decent computer however - so I'll be pretty happy with my Space Navigator that's only 40 bucks )

probably the VAT converter = 499 Euros plus 19% Value Added Tax
... U$ 499 is net not gross.
I would also not compare street prices of a mass product with list prices of a specialized tool.
after all, it depends on productivity (= saved time) which is probably much more worth than the initial cost of this tool, especially in relation with CAx systems for 10,000 or 20,000 U$.

That would mean that the CAT is the same ll over in the EU while it is not. Some places it's about the half of other places.
This more seems to be the case when a manufacturer "still thinks" that the USD and EUR are the same (like when it started).
Interestingly, once I made a purchase over the internet where they insisted that 1 USD = 1 EUR but at least (since Hungary is not in the EUR zone) they let me choose what currency I wanted to pay in. Obviously I chose USD then.

that would not mean that the VAT is the same all over Europe but that the poster quoterd is comparing the German gross rpicing w/ the US net pricing.

Most manufacturers are not adjusting list prices (communicated to resellers which are communication prices to inquiries via the web or by a price list) based on a daily U$<->โฌ exchange rate but do incorporate a buffer for exchange rate fluctuations as well as for additional cost of a local reseller providing e.g. localized software/documentation or a local tech. support in native tongue or local payment conditions etc.
of course, nothing consumers and/or cheapies are thinking of.

Then I don't know why they are selling for the same price (in Euros) all over the EU countries.
If that's "buffering" then it's quite a fat buffer.

I have explained this already above.

don't bother to buy the Space Pilot pro!!!!!!!
I have just layed out over $450 and it does not work with Sketchup 8.
It has been a total waste of time and money.
The 3d connexions forum has been saying they will release an update to the driver since Oct 2010 and that was six months ago.
They must think that anyone useing Sketchup will not layout that amount on a device, more fools them or am i the fool for sending my hard earnt cash on a over priced device?
-
Nick, I've been using my Space Pilot Pro with SU 8...in fact, they just released a new driver a little over a month ago (02/11/11).
Have you checked here for a new driver? http://www.3dconnexion.com/service/drivers.html
-
You are correct, i have downloaded the new driver and it works wonderfully.
It is what i would call operator error (my fault). it wasn't very clear from reading the 3d connexion forum and all i could find was work arounds and no direct solution.
I will be having fun from now on.
Cheers

Glad it works now...I think 3D Connexion did a poor job - or no job! - of informing users of the new update, so they are to blame too.
