20 July 2012 Beta 3 MAC & PC (more infos in few days) @unknownuser said: Multiple cpu cores used in the draw engine - should speed up the display of complex models on multi-core machines. Please let me know how it benchmarks on your system, you can get a numeric benchmark by turning on the viewport display time which will put up a number in the upper-left corner of the viewport for how long it took to render a frame. You can toggle that on and off by setting up a shortcut key with the following script on it: script: /* Toggle redraw time display */ moi.ui.showViewportDisplayTime = !moi.ui.showViewportDisplayTime; You can compare numbers with that turned on in the previous v3 beta or v2 to the new multi-core enabled release. PDF import has been totally overhauled, it should be a lot more robust and some kinds of PDFs that would previously get garbled should come through ok now. New Extrude to point and Extrude tapered options for the Extrude command (2 new buttons on the Extrude options panel). New Isocurve command under Construct > Curve > Iso, and a new "Isoparm" option for the Trim command when trimming a single surface. [image: AjZo_extrude.jpg] [image: rX2v_iso.jpg]

RE for starters. Been using a Logitek LX8 Cordless Laser. Simple enough guess 5 button mouse. Easy enough on the hand. Nothing fancy and is cheap. Logitek Setpoint software sometimes a problem. Like now. Trying to get the buttons i customized to work in sketchup. It's usually ok though. everybody says dont load in the Logitek Software but I like using left side button for control and right for shift which gives me easy 12 choices combined with the 3 on the wheel.

Hi Gary, Neither SketchUp nor Lumion can make use of SLI setup of video cards. For SU only, any medium decent card between the 512 Mb and 1 Gb range will do the job. SU is als a single core application so get a CPU which has as fast clock speed on a single core as possible (your setup looks okay in this respect). Now as Lumion cannot use two cards either (it works but is not any better), the best is to get a really strong card here. nvidia gtx 580 with 3 Gb or the newest GTX 680 with 4 Gb of RAM seem to be the top at the moment (GTX 590 and 690 are actually two, smaller cards together so this is not the best)

Yeah TIG, the beer could be a problem okay From what I see the sideways motion of the seat is dampened also it should be possible to get into a position whereby the user would also rest his / her forearm on the desk for intricate digital pen / mouse movements. In my current work setup I use a laptop stand at a tilt and like to work this way. So I would probably do likewise with a desk like the Focus. This works okay with a laptop but getting it to work with an iMac or any monitor would require some kind of a 'holding device'. I have been checking the 'sitting problem' out a little more and came across a Huffpost article in which they quote a Dr Elin Ekblom-Bak of the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences, she says, "After four hours of sitting, the body starts to send harmful signals," You can check the article out here, Sitting Kills! Experts Say Too Much Sitting Could Be Deadly http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/20/sitting-kills-experts-say_n_430048.html/ Something that Dr Ekblom-Bak says make sense to me. That is a suggestion that we gain more benefit from shorter exercise periods spread over the day. I think the same probably goes for food ..... and many other things ..... the saying 'little and often!' come to mind BTW, in my initial post I mentioned that the Focus setup cost in the region of $1800. After delving deeper, it looks that it can now be ordered for around $1450 or so.

Rich, XnView looks like a really nice piece of software. 26 Euros for commercial use. So far no luck with the others, one crashes at opening, the other is a command line application, which I haven't figured out yet. Thanks for the information. XnView should do it. Peter

Microsoft just announced two new Tablets running on windows 8. One running on Windows RT (mobile version of windows8)and one running on the full windows 8 pro. The last one has a i5 processor. I think this last one will be the first tablet capable of running SU and other 3d software. Greetz Twan

@solo said: Would anyone actually buy this, or even use it? Pete, I think this will most definitely be a non finisher. Its only achieved 5% of the require $400,000 and I can't see it getting anywhere near that figure. I have a feeling the developers have been very unrealistic in their target figure of $400K in the first place. Here is an example IMO of how a project should be launched and priced. Its Smarter Stand, the idea is a good one at $10. The guy has, in a short time, exceeded his development figure and International shipping is free! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/257195260/smarter-stand-for-ipad?ref=history

@krisidious said: I love legos Amen, brother - and those old instruction booklets always fascinated me too - my first exposure to "engineering drawings", which I have no doubt sowed the seeds for many of the skills I now use as an engineer. One thing I am glad to see here, is some really creative modelling with only the most basic of cuboid blocks - that side of Lego 'sculpting' always impressed me the most. Somehow I was always disappointed that Lego went down the road of so many 'custom' shaped bricks, towards kits that required much less assembly and 'guided' the imagination with pre-defined shapes - some of the smaller kits just seem a little too much like "Kinder Egg" toys to me somehow.
