  • Why is this program not 64bit???

"Program stops"? It crashes? And at only 1GB? Then it's not a 32bit limitation. As you said, it's way before the 32bit limit. Which normally is at around 2GB. With SU8M1 under a 64bit OS this is now 4GB - because they enable the large address aware flag. Now, what is the size of the model you have? Faces, edges, groups components etc? The only time I ever ran into such memory usage has been when rendering with V-Ray. Without I have never ever ran into memory limitation with SketchUp. And then I've used models with 2million faces and lots of textures...

@unknownuser said: I* have my own little wish list for sketchup.. which involves things I really don't understand but would learn. Skinning and rigging of avatar like models*. Currently, sketchup is the red-headed step child for virtual world clothing and animation creation without those abilities. Now if there are plugins that do this, I have not found them. +1 I might even be able to teach you these things as I have plugins (and have used them!) that enables such things for using at the other place! (they were made specifically for the other place. Won't work for Nvo. ) I know there is a plugin for this somewhere, and I can't find it, and really don't think Sketchup should be a 'plugins operated program', especially for simple things as my next wish: I want "In Model" to be MY default Materials window thingy! So, maybe give us that option in our preferences? wonders why Google doesn't look at some of these plugins made for simple tasks and just implement them into the program. I'm pretty sure the developers make them for us who want ease of use, and probably wouldn't be offended if Google helped us get rid of plugin bloat by adding these simple tools. Hint hint.

John, Thanks for your reply - I've only just spotted it. .......... @jbacus said: . Is there something about our old plugin that you prefer over ESRI's native support? john . ........... The short answer to your question - it works !!! .......... The original @Last / Google plugin worked well - especially when exporting a TIN (Terrain Model) from ArcGIS to SketchUp. FAST export of Terrain models with no holes / slivers etc. It gave a very good result. It was extremely useful. This functionality (TIN Export) seems to have disappeared using the method described in the link you posted. Comments from other users at that link seem to support this view. .......... If the Google plugin could be updated to work with SU 8+ and ArcGIS 9+ it would be much appreciated ........... Regards Howard L'

Call me a cynic but, the problem is not just google sketchup developers. Just about every company out there will take the wishes of their marketing department/group over users EVERY day of the week. One direction in which software is developed, just not for the better of the (should be) major interest group (users).

The Axes tool interrups an operation. So assigning the shortcut sequence to a key allows you to see where blue is pointing at. [Ecs] ends the interruption. I must admit, not as useful as toggling 'Color: by axis <> all the same'. I've always wondered why toggling endpoint's visibility on/off isn't available in the 'View' menu, nor in the shortcut list discussed here. Unlike profiles, depth cue and extentions. It's just missing! We always have to dig into Window > Styles > Edit > Edge settings to reach it. Or have it saved in a scene. Toggling by pressing one key would help. (mentioning this at the risk of now being "sentenced" to contribute to the 'Dooh' thread)

@fouronethirty said: im sorry, i apologize, i didnt mean that, ., its jst a capital letter, whats the big deal? In addition to indicate shouting as Rich said, a body of text with all capital letters is much harder to read. There is a reason why we don't use the old Roman way of setting text in all capitals.

Quite true. As bmike and a couple others have said, SU is essentially using this model already. It's a bit like if someone would have told Kahn he should sell his product for $2 instead of $50 when others were selling for $750. -Brodie

@scott m said: Thanks for the link I will check It out but my question is will it take the mutable segments of a circle and /or a arch and mesh or weld or whatever them into a closed loop when exported to other cad programs. no.. those links were aimed more at imaginearch's post.. sketchup is going to export segmented circles just like they are when they're in sketchup itself.. or, are you saying the segmented circles are ok.. it's just that when you bring them in to another program, they aren't staying joined together as a closed loop?

Kudos to Jeff! This will work on Mac skp 8! I was trying in v.7. No need for complicated alpha exports, not to mention my elaborate and, in retrospect, quaint workaround.. heh, heh.

hi, you may need to use 'align view' and 'solar north' to switch between two [or more] 'modeling axis' if you use solar north on an empty drawing you'll see it follows the green. if you draw a plane ['rectangle tool'] at origin it follows the red/green axis's, if you then rotate the face 45° >>right click the face >> select 'change axis', any new geometry, groups or components will use that axis orientation. Now rotate you face back to solar north >>right click the face >> select 'change axis', and any thing you draw will be at that axis.... john

As I said, not with skp files. There are a couple of 3rd party applications however that can do a walkthrough kind of presentation from SU - both free and commercial (and there are also 3D PDF solutions but they are best for product views - to rotate "from outside"). Would your boss be interested to spend a couple of hundred dollars for something like that?

Wow so this has being an ongoing topic for some time now, this cant be, why doesnt google do something about this, theres so much more that can be done with sketchup if this feature existed, i dont think google relise how important this is to so many others out there, they should addreas this issue, i know there are other programs out there designed to do these animations like Blender, 3DMAX, but i have created models in sketchup and i would like to keep using sketchup for my creations instead of learning to use another outside program to do so

In LayOut, you can print to scale when you are not in those "Standard views" but in orthogonal (i.e. axonometric kind). I believe that the development team tries to focus their attention and resources on LayOut when it comes to 2D output (other than image export) and will not develop and enhance these functions in SU any more (after ll it would mean doubling the work and developing redundant functions). Certainly LO is a Pro only product but I can imagine (and understand) they also try to "encourage" sales this way.
