    • RE: Fonts on Mac

      Burkhard,

I am with you, Architex also for me is THE font I use with SketchUp.
I use it even for elaborated projectdescriptions. As a mac-user I very often use 'pages' as my prefered projectdescription-software and even there my prefered font is 'Architex'.
It always gives a real design-ish, development-like style to my presentations. It is my standard font for SketchUp, and in combination with some specific styles it gives me the perfect way to present my projects, without the need of (m)any other programs but SU.
Only for real production-info I change to arial.
My suggestion: have you contacted Grant Marchall directly? He used to be a very great SU fan and made very nice and surprising contributions, untill he left the communitee a few years ago. (If I remember well, it had to do with the 'take-over' by Google, but I might be wrong.)
His website is still alive, although not updated recently. But still... maybe as the 'founding father' of this font he might be willing to help you out and add those special german fonts to the range and maybe some more like à,á,è,é,ó,ò,ï (and I have a few more in mind).
By any means I would like to offer you my help in extending this font-range. Let's not forget that there is also the Architex bold, we then have to think of.

PM(Personal Mail) is also a possibility to talk further about this subject/project.

    • RE: Custom paper size

      Gaieus,

I am glad you answered to Daniel question. I have used GSU info before, printed on even larger formats.
Imaging a theatrical set-up 7,5m high 18m long, printed scale 1:10. Yes it is possible with GSU.
The old CAD-plotters already had the possibility to print on large papersizes. And the well-know european papersizes are even based on 1 sqm (A0=84,1x118,9cm=1sqm--divide it by 2 in several steps and you will easily find out why A4 = 29,7x21,0cm). Really large formats are not used that often anymore in our computer-screen- driven age. But, by experience, I can assure you that a large-print presentation from a large-scale project can bring even more animosity in a project-discussion as a vivid, animated, 3D presentation on screen (even if projected in a larger size).
Those large plotters, and nowadays, printers are still available for print-jobs, although you will have to search for and find that kind of print-service.
I am very glad GSU offers custom papersize set-up, although it might not be generaly known.
Daniel, don't feel sorry for your missing this item. I also had to look very closely to find this out.
GSU often has less limitations and, at the same time, more problem-solutions than one expects.
That's why I like these forums so much: it is great source of information, also for those who have missed certain details and I myselve are still one of those, even after many years of intensive GSU-use.

I think I will go for some kind of 'Gaieus-solution'.
Jim's Rubytoolbar is windows only, so not for me, unfortunately.
I haven't seen any other subfolder-plugin-solution for the Mac (yet !!).

    • RE: [Plugin] Boolean--OSCoolean (Dec 2013) for SU 8 up free ver

      Gaieus,

As usual you are right. The problem wasn't due to the file-extension.
Probably it was due to some other strange ruby interference. Yesterday I have been spending quite some time on copying many of my SU6 plugins to SU7. My SU6 plugins-folder contains about 136 items. So I decided it was/is time to really look into what I really need and what to keep, to get rid of duplicates and more. In fact a real mid-winter SU clean-up.
Oscar's 'new' intersection-plugin is one I really want and need. Installing it really didn't do anything, no trace anywhere.
That made me writing my 'contribution' to this topic.
Since this morning, the problem is solved. Oscar has approached me by PM offering me another download-version. I really appreciate that and have thanked him, but what might be more important, restarting GSU7 this morning was a complete disaster. What has gone wrong yesterday I don't know, but in the end I reinstalled a new clean version of GSU7 pro on my mac, downloaded Oscar's plugin as the first new entry in my 'virgin' plugins-folder and....everything works perfect.
I now start re-entering old plugins in GSU7 and will see what the result will be.
I have reported other strange plugin/ruby-interferences before, I just hope I don't have to report more.
If so, I will keep this community informed.

      Oscar,

Thanks for a (probably) great script, but I cann't run it on my mac.
Downloading the newest version results in a OSCoolean.rbs file.
As could be expected, since the file-extension is rbs, it doesn't show up at all.
Renaming it to OSCoolean.rb results in the following error-message:

      Error Loading File OSCoolean.rb
/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 7/SketchUp/Plugins/OSCoolean.rb:1: no .<digit> floating literal anymore; put 0 before dot
      RBS1.0
      ^
      /Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 7/SketchUp/Plugins/OSCoolean.rb:1: parse error
      RBS1.0
      ^
      /Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 7/SketchUp/Plugins/OSCoolean.rb:1: Invalid char `\030' in expression

I very often use the intersect function to create complex 3d shapes and so this script would be very helpfull and time-saving for me.
      Any solution available ????
      Thanks for the help.

      Blouboy,
Have about the same hardware you have(PowerBook G4, 17inch, 1,67Mhz, 1,5 GB memory, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphic card, Mac OSX 10.4.11, SU hardware acceleration and fast feedback on) and of course SU 7 installed.
I have tried all kind of different things, using the right mousebutton, but nothing abnormal.
      I cann't repeat your screenflashing/blinking at all.
I am sorry I cann't help you. The only thing I can say is that it isn't a general Mac problem.
I hope you find a solution. If so please keep us informed, others might encounter the same behaviour.

    • RE: Create solid-appearing 3d models of a subsurface

      Gealagie,

Take a look at the free webvideo nr 48 and 49 from go-2-school: http://www.go-2-school.com/podcasts
Both deal with geological models with sketchup and also show how to import large amounts of spreadsheetsdata into sketchup using Didier Bur's "cloud'-ruby. I think it will be quite a revealing bit info for you.
If you dig a little bit into SketchUp you will find out that it has an unexpected depth (not geological spoken). SketchUp can be used in very many different ways, to express all kind of 3D-data in a very professional way. And that is anything but obvious looking at/using SketchUp for the first time. These SketchUcation Forums are the most professional place to find (and ask for) all kind of info. There is no other place where you can meet all those SU-pro's, exploring the deep borders of SketchUp, moving them further away bit by bit, sharing and discussing it with other pro's worldwide. There are many other websites and forums on SketchUp, but this is the one and only place to be, if you are looking for 'unusual' SU-solutions, as you are.

    • RE: Layer 1 or layer 0

      Susan, FYI

TIG has created, among many others, a very nice plugin for all those who mixed up their SU projects:
      [Plugin] Default Layer Geometry
      http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?p=47033#p47033
"This script defaults all 'loose' geometry and any geometry in groups or component definitions to Layer0. The layers of groups or components are NOT changed."

And.... I removed layer1 at once, creating my own 'non-Bryce' default template.
BTW this is one of the first things I advice to everyone asking me for support on SU: create your own default drawing template!

    • File conversion .max to .3ds

I own a 3.9Mb .max file from a submarine, I need to integrate in a bigger GSU project.
GSU cann't import .max files, but .3DS with ease.
So I am looking for a possiblity to convert my .max file into a .3ds file.
I know several 3d programs can do the job, but I don't have them nor the intention to buy one for a once-in-5-years job.
Is there anyone who knows of a free converter (for mac) or is someone willing to help me out in another way?

      Help is much appreciated.

(Maybe this is the wrong place for this rather unusual question for help. Maybe the 'extensions & applications discussions' would be a more appropriate place. So moderator(s) I leave it up to you whether or not to replace this topic.)

    • RE: SU won't export to Kerkythea

Thanks Thomasz, your help is much appreciated:

I activated the export function and this what I got in my ruby console:

      Error: #<NoMethodError: undefined method +' for nil:NilClass> /Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 6/SketchUp/Plugins/MatchboxPlugin/Population.rb:174:in +'
      /Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 6/SketchUp/Plugins/su2kt.rb:156:in export_options_window' /Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 6/SketchUp/Plugins/su2kt.rb:93:in export'
      /Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 6/SketchUp/Plugins/su2kt.rb:2674

I have no knowledge of ruby at at all, but the message pointed at the matchbox plugin I installed not so long ago
So I closed SketchUp, removed all that had to do with 'matchbox' from my plugins-folder.
I restarted SU and..... su2kt works fine now, as it did before.

I think this ruby-interference is worth mentioning in a new tread in the 'Ruby discussions' forums (and maybe somewhere in the KT-forums. Here, it is a bit hidden.
Of course, I leave it up to you to start this 'new info'. The su2kt plugin is yours, you deserve all the credits for it and (maybe) a note from you gets more attention then one written by me. I am just a simple user of all those nice, helpfull, productive plugins.
You really helped me out with just one simple search-action. I would never have come to that on my own.

Many thanks, I can happely live on with GSU and Kerkythea !!

    • RE: Importing PDFs

      Goggin,

You'r probable not on a mac !? Import of pdf's is native on GSU for mac (pro).
I use it aswell for 2D-pictures, for 2d-plans as for text, no problem at all.
Text mainly to go as instructions/ellaborations for construction-drawings and -details.
I create my text in whatever text-editor I want, use the 'print to pdf' function on my mac and then import in GSU onto a 'always face the camera' surface.
      Works really nice and fast.
I cann't answer the question, but is it sure the pdf-import is only native for GSU for mac ??

    • RE: One of my Corner Bars

      Hi Mike,

Yes, I very well remember the enjoyable evening out at Poet's Corner. A nice place with nice people, from Ireland (of course), from Holland (evidently), from France......etc
And that's why I am not going to model any of the bars I visit. It's not the outside that is most attractive, it is the atmosphere and people inside.
Since GSU isn't the fastest and best modeller for organic shapes, it is to much of a job to create a convincing images of the main reason I frequent my bars of choise. And....most of them do have too low an architectural or historical level to be worth being put in 3D.

Good memories never faint, they draw their own lively 3D pictures in ones mind.

    • RE: SU won't export to Kerkythea

I don't use KT that often, but now I also have a problem with the export from SU to KT.
I have the 'SU2KT 3.05- Mac compatible version' plugin installed. It worked before, but not anymore.
The 'export model to Kerkythea' function shows no response at all anymore.
Very strange, because the 'Export Face Me Components an Sun' is full functional.
But you can do little to nothing with those FM files if you don't have a modelfile.
Kerkythea works fine (with previously exported files), but how to get the get the su2kt-plugin working again.

I have been looking for hours now, reading several forum threads, here and on the KT-site, reinstalled KT and the plugin, X11 off and on, older mac-compatible versions of su2kt (but I cann't find one), one single file too many in my pluginsfolder maybe....and more.
      Now I turn back here:
Is there anyone who can give a clue to find a way out of this problem..........

    • RE: [Plugin] GreyscaleMode

      Jim,

This is really a great plugin.
I have already used it for some presentationdrawings and it works fine.
Today I was playing with it again to define a nice match between specific colors and their grey-scale-representation and now, for the first time, I tried to go back and forth between grey-mode and color-mode and..........
it isn't possible (my mac or my partial blindness maybe ?).
The color mode in the pop-up menu is greyed out (so not functional) and I cann't find any 'revert color' option anywhere under my right mouse button. Neighter when selecting a group nor when going into the group and selecting seperate faces nor within the color-picker. 'Undo' doesn't do the trick either.
Nowbody mentionned this 'problem' before, so I guess I must be overlooking something.
Please help me look in the right direction to find my way back into color.

By the way, I really like the fact that your plugin doesn't effect the standard face colors (back and front) so you can high-light special details in one or two vivid colors. Whatever additions you ever make to this pugin, please keep that possibility in.
