    • RE: Resolution problem. Help.....

Kristy...I have the same problem all the time trying to post something here and there. I'm pretty new to all this digital image manipulation, but here's what I've found so far:

First you have to figure the physical size of your finish product times your desired resolution: I've got it in my head that screen standard is 72dpi, which is also just OK for a lot of print images. I try to use 96 as a minimum, up to as much file size as possible...the PS guru's around here should chime in to teach us both, thanks.

So...if your output is 36 inches wide, the file should be nearly 4000 pixels for pretty good quality...? I've also found reducing the image in steps of no greater than 66% at a time helps the final look a bunch (throwing in a "sharpen" in the middle if there needs to be more than three reduction steps).

      Best, Tom.

    • RE: Some of my work

Kris, just did a quick hit on your website (and will return) but was really surprised you are located in the midwest. I gotta say your designs are just too wild and crazy (i.e. innovative and beautiful) to get built very often here, just a couple hundred miles from you...!?!

      I'm impressed, Tom.

Never noticed the roofing seams...I was thinking of the actual gaps in the walls of my castle octagons. (But now that you mention it...maybe oughta fix the shingle coursing too :`) Again, nice model Eric!

Nice one, Eric! (I can say from experience: not as easy as they look...some little thing always seems to misalign :`) Thanks, Tom.

      Edson,
I'm having trouble seeing the problem too. Can you post a piece of the model we can take a look at?

    • RE: Managing Groups, to Make CDs in SU

Hey rhankc (give us a first name, wouldya huhhuh?),

Section planes (and cuts) can be turned on and off...there is even a tool bar for it. Thinking about what you described, I'd set up my pages (scenes...grrrr) for each cut (sheet), and another with all of them turned off for modeling. Easy to switch back and forth that way.

      Best, Tom.

      Rick, sweet!

This work on SU5? Are most rubys version sensitive? (Ruby Newbee here :`)

      Thanks, Tom.

Yes, Wonderful! (I couldn't get the first to open either...pity.) And finally saw what you meant by the teaser. And it was a tease, I almost started work on a candy cane frightscape thing I've been thinking about but then "googlegate" happened and didn't get back to it.

      Again, really nice, Tom.

If one could solve the changing orientation problem, I could see all sorts of uses...stair railings nonetheleast!

      Is it possible?

Shaun, really nice work and presentation. I liked the birds and wind too...the owl cracked me up and scared the cat (me cracking up, that is). Best, Tom.

Yeah, me too! And no matter how many times I tell myself to remember to use the pulldown menus when doing same...I always forget and rightclick 😞

Okay...I registered and was accepted, tried to login but was told my screen name was already in use. So I exited the site and opened again, tried to login again, and was told my password was invalid.

    • RE: An interesting phenomenon with styles

I discovered this great sadness early on in the beta testing process...and after passing through several releases was told it wouldn't be fixed in SU6 (partly the reason I stopped working toward a CD of my growies). Hopefully it is something that can (and will) be fixed...since some of the sketchy edges (like Ross's subtle beauties) would work famously with NPR entourage.

    • RE: Make "saveas SU5" default in SU6...

      (Oh..."that" CraigD :`)

Hi Craig, I know you do, thanks...but sounded like it's been settled for SU6: sketchy edges will shine through transparencies for the forseeable future. So, since I'm heavy into the png tree thing (and if not that, partially transparent faces) why carry the extra interface burdon of styles if I can't use sketchy edges (which I like very much and life is now too short to put myself in daily "Three's Company" unrequinted tempta/frustra/situation).

It's okay though, I'm banging out 3d text and matchin' models into photos without a hitch (program, that is, I'm still pretty hitchy). Just got used to these features in autocad working between releases...engineers almost never upgrade, smart fellas!

      Best, Tom.

    • Make "saveas SU5" default in SU6...

...is there a way to do this? I also would like to make SU6 be the associated program for dbl clicking .skp...?

      Hey all,

I've moved back to doing most of my work in 5 (until they fix a couple of things they broke making 6) but use a couple of the new things in 6, so I'm getting tired of doing saveas and changing the version. And since most of you guys are posting 6 models, I usually have to open 6 before I can download.

Anyway to change the defaults...I can't find it?
      Thank, Tom.

    • RE: WaterSlide help Needed

      Oh yeah,

I use autofold to get from the upper to the lower...on yours (since it never crossed itself I just followme'd the whole path rather than making the 15deg components as described earlier) did same as below 46 times.

Sorry Susan, I obviously wasn't explaining myself very well so gave an hour of my Sunday toward good Karma (least I could do :`)

Here's the your slide based on the simplified plan I described in my last post attachment. It's not exact, of course, and still could use a little adjustment...but close enough I think.

    • RE: WaterSlide help Needed

Yeah...alt-move is how I "autofold", or am I using the wrong term? By pressing the alt key during a move the faces compliantly triangulate to accommodate my desires :`)

If you select a curve (that has been arbitrarily segmented by SU from the autocad import arc) you can change the number of segments to suit your needs in the "entity info" toolbar.

As per creating the 6 components and correctly placing 45 of them to form your slide...ah well, such is life: time and money, or is it love.
