Very nice indeed: fun and inviting! I'm especially impressed how well your built materials work with the PR plantlife...well done Dylan!

    • RE: Need some roof help.

Ignore this if I'm wrong, but maybe learning one of the old methods will help understanding the quick and easy (I think more fun too :`)

The attached isn't a nice tut like Eric's (I still fight text in SU) but what time I had today for fun.

EDIT: Okay, I thought Eric's tut was going to be on the ruby...then saw your other thread, Boo, sorry. This one I'll leave even though it is the same except cruder, less intentional, and goes a bit beyond...let's call it "Roof Design PlayingaroundtillitsclosetosomethingreasonableorIlikeitwhichevercomesfirst":

left is a plan for a hip roof and a face above, perpendicular to one wall, with the outside edge at 16/12 (my chosen roof slope)

next right is the follow-me tool result after a couple of intersect-with-model's (select all the roof stuff, do the intersect several times)

next right is a crossing pick deletion of the top trash (note some of the roof faces still escaped, you'll have to draw over an edge to get them back)

next is the roof all cleaned up
~behind this is the start of changing the config by continuing roof edges up till they intersect with projected planes...keep going till you don't have interior valleys
~behind still is the cleaned up exageration

next right is how you think about tying the second floor roof down onto the first (last "next" is same as tying the first floor roof up into the second)

I'll be back with an apology and some help if this is too cryptic.
      Best, Tom.

Not in the least where I was going, just playing a bit...like:

Maybe the 180 doesn't stand for IQ, but degrees instead? (Sorry again :`)

Glad to see you have a sense of humor, Mensa, you'll like it here.

Were a fun loving bunch here (have you met Boo? :`) and after saying welcome..."WELCOME" BTW...you may (as Modelhead warned) get some answers like:

That happens to me too when I accidentally hit the "x-ray" mode icon...but don't you Mensa180's have x-ray vision all the time?

Sorry, couldn't resist...and my very best, Tom.

Nice tut, Eric...turning on hidden geometry in Twingi's model I'd go for the second method (since you possess my share of modeling finesse :`)

Twingi, welcome...having fun already, eh? Be sure to post your results as this will surely be a sweet model. Best, Tom.

    • RE: Thick vs. thin lines?

      Jared,
Edges in space (or on a face) will be considered an edge to show as a profile by SU. Closing them merely flattens the edges onto the bigger face with the smaller face...it's just a trick of function that lets you see when you have closed the edges.
      On attached:
Left face has profile outside edges, 3 profile edges on its face, and the 4 non-profile edges closing the smaller face.
Right two faces show profile edges show if either bigger or smaller faces are grouped together with their edges...you can't cut a hole in a grouped face if you aren't inside and editing the group.

Hope this helps...took me awhile to get the benefits of this trick, but really helps my speed now: if I draw the last edge to close a face and the edges don't go light I know right off I have a glitch :`) Anytime the wide edges get in your way you can toggle them off (I use "p" as a toggle shortcut)
      Best, Tom.

    • RE: Thick vs. thin lines?

      Jared,
Your last pic shows you have profile edges turned on and set to something larger than one. If you rotate the model you'll see that which edges are in "profile" changes.

I usually keep this feature on when doing initial drawing because, as Hank said, a edge on a face will show thick until you form a closed shape...then you know you can push that face around separately.
      Best, Tom.

    • RE: That lil' big project again...

Played a bit with the suggestions so far...thank you very much! More natural tree greens, put some glass in front of the building folks, less color sat over all, and did some painting on the peeps which helps a bunch I think (not enough, I know Willy, but still trying to save those bytes :`) No where near a finished but some progress to the WIP, I think...?

Have to think more about those peeps...their night-of-the-living-deadness, though fun and a noticeable grin-play with the "WC-animated" buildings, they really don't work with the "live" birds...huh?)

Seems we are still in 700 pixel width mode, sorry:

    • Three models, one file...

      Hey All,

Posting this in the Newbie Forum 'cause in many ways "I are one" but mainly because, though this is a bright new light bulb for me, I'm sure this is old hat to most of the old pros.

This is the second bank model I've done (you know economy is bad for the middle class when the banks start spending money :`) with a major fascade redo plus a couple of addition concepts. It finally dawned on me to do it all in the same file.

I set up all the "view" pages sans layers changes, and added three (I'm only posting two of them) "concept" pages changing only the layers. This way at any view the concept alternates can be flipped thru and compaired, or a single concept can be taken thru the views...all without changing files.

Anybody share additional presentation enhancements along these lines?

Anyway, the presentation to the bank board is today...fingers crossed!
      Best, Tom.
(The first image is the existing bank.)
