    • RE: Drape crashes SU

I got another model that crashes with Drape now.

Some times I get a Bug Splat, some times just a general errorbox message, some times SU just disappear without a trace.

I've attached the component I'm working with. (all though, the same thing happened when I tried to do the very same in another component)

In the model you'll see two lines above the mesh, it's these two I try to drap onto the mesh below in order to make the lines slice through the mesh.

One line is right over the edge of the roof, another is offset 500mm inwards the roof. The one offset inwards drape fine. It's the one right above the roof edge that causes the crash when i try to Drape.

Any ideas? This drape problem is really getting annoying now.

Yeah, except that the VRay service release messes up the UV mapping scale of my existing SU files- I've had to revert to the previous version. πŸ˜’

Did you try with the latest? It's not on the website, but I got an email from them with a download link asking for people to try a build they'd prepared.

    • RE: Matching SU model with oblique aerial photos

I got it close enough for it's purpose. Was hard to adjust it as the end perspective points where far far out to each side. Boxing up some of the nearby buildings helped adjusting the positions.

Yea, the slider is incorrect until the date is updated. And I've also experienced that everything was completely off. It turned out that for some reason the timezone for the scene had changed to GMT+7 instead of GMT+1 as it should be.

As you said yourself, very odd that there hasn't been more complaints about this. Is espesialy annoying for light study models.

    • Matching SU model with oblique aerial photos

Has anyone inserted matched an SU model to a Pictometry/oblique photo such as the Birds Eye view from maps.local.live?

So when I activate that scene it'll then use the camera viewport of the previous scene?

    • Copy camera position

I often have files which contain several options to a project. I set up scenes with the different layers toggles to display different combinations. However, sometimes I need to adjust the camera and I want all the scenes with the different options to have the same camera position.

Is there a way I can copy the camera position from one scene to another scene so taht I don't have to recreate all the scenes every time I need to adjust the camera?

    • RE: Drape crashes SU

The whole model is rather big. It's an old model that's quite messy. I haven't had time to clean it up.

I have been able to do my work, as I just recreated it by eye. But I'd thought I'd mention it here on the forum to hear what other people has experienced with the drape tool.

I'll see if I get time to isolate just the troublesome geometry and post just that. Need to finish off some work first.

    • RE: Drape crashes SU

It's very few lines. It is just a small modification of the path of a sidewalk. It only takes about 1-2 sec for it to crash.
Is there a way to submit a bug report and include sample files?

    • Drape crashes SU

I got a model where I was trying to drape some lines into the terrain. However, every time I try to drape it, SU crashes. I don't get the normal Bug Splat window, the SU window just disappear into thin air. Two times I got the MS crash window.

    • RE: SU online manuals off-line!

I'd like to add that it's very annoying that the manual resizes the browser windows when it opens. I always have my browser open and the SU help opens up in the existing window and moves it about.

I just saw this post on the SketchUp blog about simulating reflections in SU http://sketchupdate.blogspot.com/2008/02/time-for-reflection.html

Easily replicated in PhotoShop, but still a nice trick.

    • DWG Export with incorrect units

I've got a SU model in millimeter units. When I export to 2D DWG it sets the DWG units to Inches so I have to manually correct the units every time I export to 2D DWG.

    • RE: Print to scale - but not using Standard views

With the section cut method I can print from any odd angle in scale.

With the other method I can only manage to print top and side view, but not front view. This is because it only seem to work if you have the red and green axis end at the same point. In order to face the front view I need to make the green axis end up at a different point, but then Align View doesn't result in a Top view.

      @lewiswadsworth said:

The trick that generally works for me is to put a section plane in the model, even if I don't plan on using it (put it well ahead of geometry if you don't want a section slice). I right-click on the visible section plane and choose "Align View." If I go to a print dialog then, with the camera view aligned to the section, I probably will still not have a non-grayed option for scaled output...unless I click the little box in the lower right corner for "2-D Section Slice Only." Then I can input a scale.

It is important, after putting the scale in, to un-check that box. The option for scaled input returns to grayed-out, but it holds the value I put in when it was just a section-cut-only print. And if "Fit to Page" and "Model Extent" are both NOT checked, the resulting output will be at the scale I specified a moment ago for that section slice.

I just tried it...yep, it still works.

ThisI managed to get working! 😍

Though I can't work out why I couldn't get the other method to work...

Either way. I'm going to post in the request forum and really REALLY hope scale printing is improved and made easier in coming versions of SU.
